My Week in the Proverbial Nutshell

I'm linking with Java's Follow Friday 40 and Over at Never Growing Old!  A big SHOUT OUT and THANK YOU to JAVA for continuing the Follow Friday and Meet Me on Monday!  She's got a new job and a wonderful family and she still makes time for us!  We love you Java!

And now, here's my week in a--

It's been yet another week of HOT temps here in the low-country.  We even saw 80 one day.  UGH!  I know that a lot of you are still having frigid temps and snow, but I can't stand hot weather.  The hotter the weather, the shorter my fuse.  Which is why I spend most of the summer inside.  LOL  It's been so warm here that I have had to carry Tucker the last half mile of our walks.  He stops in the shade and sprawls out spread eagle until I pick him up.  So, Tucker got  his summer hair cut this week.  And now he's practically running on our walks!  Only 16 miles so far this week.  Better than nothing!

Tucker last Friday
Tucker today.  There's a squirrel up in the tree- BTW.  LOL

We had a bit of a scare this week.  Dad was sent to the hospital by his doctor.  He had not been feeling well and when he went in to see the doctor, Dad was in AFib.  Plus he had some stomach issues.  He is home already and feeling much better.  They had changed his blood pressure meds and he had put himself on an antibiotic for a virus (sometimes men are just stupid no matter how old they are) and the first caused the AFib and the latter caused the stomach issues.  We are trying to get him to understand that our goal is not to sit back and let the medicine sustain us but to work towards getting healthier so we can get OFF the meds.  He may have uttered something to the effect of, "I'm almost 76 years old I don't need to be told what to do."  That's Dad in blue in the picture.  I think he's counting oysters.  LOL

That's DoodleBug about to kick some ultimate butt!
DoodleBug had an Ultimate Frisbee Tournament over the weekend.  Their team, the CofC Hobos went undefeated for all 6 games and took first in the tournament.  This is the tournament the college hosts every year called the Chucktown Throwdown.  The boys teams, the Bums, didn't fair as well.  Way to go GIRLS!  Number 1 Ho's...I mean Number 1 Hobos!  LOL

A Yellow-Rumped Warbler from the bird count
I participated in the Great Backyard Bird Count from Friday through Monday.  A SHOUT OUT to JULIE for alerting me to this opportunity.  Number of species at my feeders over those 4 days?  Friday-16; Saturday- 15; Sunday- 13; Monday- 14.  I have, and will continue to, post photos here

It feels like there was so much more to the week than just those few things--but that's probably due to the emotional upheaval from Dad not feeling well.  The weekend is here and Breezy and BestSonInLawEVER are coming in so life will be hopping around here!  I'm wishing you all the best weekend so far this year--  Make it count!

  1. I think we should swop locations, I hate the cold and love the heat and sun! I hope your dad is making good progress after his health scare. Have a good weekend.

  3. Lindy-That sounds like a good idea! He is doing great! Already out and about- and just as stubborn as ever!

    Debra- Thanks!

Christine-I know, but he really does feel better. Plus the groomer pulled 3 ticks off of him that I never even saw!

  4. I get frustrated that my husband seems content to take dozens of pills daily rather than do the work it would take to get off them, too. But at 71, I don't suppose he's going to change now!

  5. Thank you for leaving a comment on my blog (thru the Follow Friday - 40 & Over blog hop). What a cute snuggly dog you have! I also enjoyed the bird photos on your other blog. Both blogs are beautifully done.

  9. I'm glad you enjoyed the bird count. I have to add up our totals and get them in this weekend. Should of already had them done but...well life you know.
Mike plays ultimate freebie with the boy scouts. They have such a blast and have beaten every other troop they've played against. I've never played, might just have to give it a shoot the next time they ask me.
Take care Pam and have the most relaxing and blessed weekend. I am also so glad your daddy is up and about and willing to listen (at least a little bit).

  10. Be still my heart...I think I'm in love-------with Tucker!!! He is precious. And his summer 'do' is marvelous. Yes, it's been hot down here too, and my fuse tends to frazzle, but I swear, I'd rather have 80+ degrees than 3' of snow any ol' day.

I've been darned busy this week, and this is now a time I finally set aside visiting my blogging buddies!!!

Hope your day has been filled with all kinds of good stuff! Thanks for visiting me this past week!

  11. Thank you for stopping by my site today and especially thank you for leaving a comment. Making new blogging buddies is always fun and always welcomed!

We are empty nesters too! I cried for weeks when we dropped our daughter off at college (our son had already moved out at that point). It really took some getting used to but now it's the norm. I love it when they are home visiting but I'm ok when they leave. They're where they should be in life and I'm proud of that.

Have fun this weekend and enjoy your family!

  13. ONLY 16 MILES!!! Are you kidding??
I'd be like Tucker, you'd have to carry me part of the way! LOL

I'm glad your dad is doing better :)

I'm envious of your large variety of bird visitors! We only get the bravest--or craziest of birds at our feeder due to our large cat population.

  14. Our Nico needs a haircut like your Tuckers. I bet it´s much more comfy for him in the summer.
Can I ask where you live? Just wondering about the warm weather, when every one else seems to be having blizzards.

  15. Julie- Thank you so much for sharing about the bird count, it was FUN! There's no way I'd play ultimate with DoodleBug's team, those girls are dangerous! LOL

Anni- Isn't he just the cutest?! Always enjoy your site!

Linda- I have finally gotten to the point where I don't sob every time they leave but I still get a sad feeling in the pit of my stomach. It's still hard, but they are all doing great and I do love that. It's just selfish, I realize that....motherhood is so HARD! LOL

    Michelle- It definitely is scary!

Kathy- It's only a couple of miles each day- but we're used to it. Though it gets harder when the temps rise. I'm thinking the birds that visit your feeder would be crazy, what with all those cats! LOL

Betty- We're in Charleston, SC and winter is O.V.E.R. Apparently.

  19. Mrs.- It really is. And it put me in mind of what's to come which did not make it any better.

Judy- It was a bundle of emotional turmoil that's for sure. It's going to be interesting getting him to change some things.

Monica- Thank you. What a nice thing to say! I'm off to your site now!
