Garden Play

The garden is coming along. So far, everything is growing instead of dying. This is a good sign.

I've been playing around in it every day since I began prepping the areas in the yard in March.

I planted squash, green beans, blue pumpkins, tomatoes, cucumbers, rosemary, sunflowers, black-eyed susans, and cosmos--some of which I must take a moment to say "Thank-You" to Kim at My Field of Dreams.

The raised beds contain my leafy greens- spinach, red lettuce, romaine, tomatoes, green beans and the same flowers.

My bird bath was too deep for the little birds so I had the husband drill holes in the bottom so I could plant flowers in it and put a smaller birdbath in the middle on a pedestal.

I also made a little flower garden between the two bird feeder poles and the bird bath.

I just love color in the garden!

And the birds? The LOVE the new birdbath set up!

This post is part of the NaBloPoMo for May. The theme is PLAY and they provide prompts for those who want/need them. BUT you do NOT have to stick to the theme. You just have to post every day. No prompt today- weekends are free writes.

  1. I can't get over that glorious, joyful photo of the cardinal playing in your bird bath. Spectacular! Makes me happy, happy seeing that crazy bird having so much fun!
Also, your garden photos are GORGEOUS! (Jealous here... we had a killing frost last week - won't be planting stuff for several more weeks at the earliest)

  2. Cathy- He was having a total BLAST! So was I! LOL We had about two frosts this year. That was it. All winter I kept waiting for cold weather and it just never showed up. But a frost this late in the season? No thanks!

I haven't planted tomatoes in years but I am thinking of doing a few plants in patio pots this year.

  6. Kim- Well, be careful because you'll want to do nothing other than watch them splash around in it. LOL Definitely plant some toms in the pots! They're so yummy!

Kim (FG)- Thanks! I think it all looks nice because it's only in my backyard. I don't think I have what it takes to do the planting on the level you do it! But I sure appreciate those seeds! I think of you every time I look at the plants!

    Gail- Thank you!

  9. Loved the pictures. I wish I had a green thumb like you, maybe my plants would last more than a few weeks...
I usually start strong, but then "forget" to water...LOL
Sounds like you'll be having a super crop!

  10. Such stunning photos of the flowers in your garden today (and the veggies). It must be wonderful to have such lovely weather all the time, and not have to be fighting the damp all the time! Beautiful photo of the little bird in the birdbath. I've done the same as you, and drilled one of my birdbaths, and potted it up with pansies. It looks very pretty! Such beautiful colours in the photos today. Gorgeous!!

  12. Betty- Thanks! My green thumb isn't all that green. But I keep trying. Hopefully this year will yield better results than last year! Get your hubby to make some drip irrigation for you. That's what I did.

Diane- I would appreciate the weather more if it was so hot. I just don't do heat that well. I love my little birdbath planter! Great minds! LOL

Debby- Those leafy greens are going to make awesome smoothies! Cardinals are one of my most favorite birds! Thanks!
