Hump Day HOPS!

It's Wednesday! The half-way mark- or HUMP day! WooHoo! The best thing about today? The Hump Day HOPS!

All you have to do is click on the buttons and join in the fun!

1. What do the words 'freedom' and 'liberty' mean to you? Does your mind go more in the direction of not being persecuted or discriminated against or does it head in the direction of doing what you please? As with everything else, this answer depends on my mood of the moment. Mostly, it goes in the direction of not being persecuted or discriminated against. And, when it goes in the other direction, I'm often thinking of those who take advantage and abuse the privilege and take the honor away from those who first fought (the revolutionaries) for the very freedom that these people abuse. And then I get angry. Of course, I get pretty angry about the other side as well- there are those who are still persecuting and discriminating against others. Sometimes people are just stupid.

2. Nathan's sponsors a hot dog eating contest every 4th of July. Last year over 40,000 people attended the event and almost 2 million watched it on TV. The winner ate over 60 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes. How do you like your hot dogs? I used to love hotdogs but I haven't eaten them in about 5 years or so. I always liked them with mayo, chili and slaw. Now I just find them disgusting.

3. If you were going to enter an eating contest what would be on the menu? Frozen yogurt- oh how I LOVE frozen yogurt. Or maybe some Whole Foods pizza! No! I've got it! Chick-Fil-A waffle fries! I STILL love those things!

4. Do you run your house more as a dictatorship or a democracy? I would say more like a democracy but everyone in the family would laugh themselves to death. So, dictatorship. What? I like things my way. But only because my way is the best way not because I'm a control freak or anything. Sort of.

5. Where was your favorite summer place when you were a kid? The library and my backyard. I had such a fantasy world out there that I brought from all the books I read at the library where my grandmother was librarian. It was great!

6. Do you have a guest room? Would you want to stay there? We do now. And yes. It's pretty nice since I redecorated it. Actually, Birdie is in there right now- but only until August.

7. Next Wednesday America celebrates her independence. Do you have any special plans for the 4th of July? If you live outside the USA when and how does your country celebrate its own patriotic holiday? We don't make special plans on the 4th. We live in a touristy area and, for me, it's just not worth the trouble. We always went to my mother's house at the lake when the lovelies were coming along- we had a huge neighborhood cookout, a day of swimming/water skiing and then, at night, fireworks. It was fun.

8. Insert your own random thought here. The new vet is coming today. She's a holistic vet and she comes to the house! Check in tomorrow for a report!

We had RAIN, glorious RAIN, all day yesterday. The garden LOVED it! So did I! Today is going to be nice as well- no rain but highs only in the 80s and a bit higher tomorrow. But, as of Friday, I'm inside with a stack of books in the chair next to the AC vent!

Everyday Ruralty

Questions:
  1. What's your favorite day of the week? Why? Monday. Because I get the house back to myself after having the husband home over the weekend. BUT, when the lovelies are coming home, Mondays are the worst and Fridays are the best!
  2. Do you have a blog? Please tell us the name of it and how long you've had it. Yes. Empty Nest and I've had it for three years in August. I also have a photography blog called One Flew Over the Empty Nest.
  3. What's the last book you read? If you're not a reader, please tell us about the last movie you saw. Right now I am totally enjoying the Myron Bolitar series by Harlan Cobin! The books are easy reads and they are crime thrillers! AND sports are involved!!!! Oh, and I am in love with the main character, Myron Bolitar--the perfect man! Anyway, I just finished book 3 in the series entitled Fade Away. While I'm waiting for books 4-7 to arrive, I'm reading The Psychology of Everyday Things.
  4. Do you ever doodle with a pen or pencil while something else is going on? Heck yes! Every time I'm in a lecture/speech/talk/sermon I have to doodle or I am not able to pay attention. I've been this way since I was little and it's never changed. I think it's because most people I have ever had to sit and listen to drone on and on and on and on---they are droners. I just can't pay attention without doodling.
  5. Tell me about your bathroom towels. What color are they? Do they all match? Hahahahahahahaha! Of course they do. In my mind.
Enjoy your Wednesday wherever you are!

  3. Ha-your answer to #4 made me smile : )

My mom was a librarian. I still love libraries and hope they're still around in 20 years!

  4. I forgot about the library. I definitely was a fixture at the library when I was growing up. I'd walk to the library and come back with an arm full of books ... I was a voracious reader! ;-)

  5. I'm a big fan of Harlan Coben's books - I've read a few in the Bolitar series but I really enjoy the stand alone novels.

And don't get me started on rain - I have no idea how we got so much rain and wind when we were only on the fringes of Trop Storm Debby's path!

  6. I'll help you out on that frozen yogurt eating contest. Wen will join if it's apple or carrot flavored.

I like Fridays too. Sounds like a good book series. I get a bit crazy about main characters sometimes if they are striking. I do that with my own fiction and it make writing flow!!!

  8. I am soooo in agreement on the doodling. As a matter of fact, droners are one of my pet peeves.

  11. I did the summer reading programs as a kid too. Forgot to add that to my summer stuff on my blog!

I know what you mean about favorite days. If someone is visiting, I dread the day they leave, but if I'm visiting, I love coming home. Wonder if my guests feel that way too??

  12. I love to read and when my kids were young we went to the library once a week :)

We have a quest room but my son gets very offended that we call it the guest room, so we still must call it his room, kids, they crack me up!

Our Fourth of July is all over the place, from traveling to doing nothing. We are thinking this year we might go see the 'big' fireworks on the Third?

Enjoy your Hump day and stack of books!!

  13. We had a large weeping willow tree in the backyard, that we never trimmed, I would go out there with a book or two, part the branches, and then carefully put them in place so no one could see me, it was my own little world. We had wild strawberries that grew there as well so I always had a snack handy

  14. I do enjoy an all beef hot dog. How nice to have memories from the library. I don't ever remember going as a child. Hope things went well with the vet.

  15. Hot dogs and mayo?? Whoa. Never tried that, but all of a sudden I feel an urge. I rarely eat hotdogs because it kills me with heartburn. Also, reading and using my imagination in my yard and the woods nearby were all I ever did as a kid. Your answer brought me back a little bit. :)

  16. Joyce- I love libraries too…well, not really the one in our town. They are so rude there. And they have NOTHING. But the one downtown is amazing! Thanks for hosting the hodge podge every week! And have a great 4th!

Kathy- I loved every minute at the library because of the books and my grandmother! She was wonderful! And her favorite color was red- same as me! Wonder why I like red best? LOL

MMS- I’m going to try a few of his other works as soon as I finish this series. I know! That rain and wind was all day long on Tuesday! Yesterday was windy but the temps were delightful!

Patrice- I just bought some frozen yogurt. I need to learn to make my own. I LOVE it! Come on down and we’ll indulge ourselves after a walk on the beach.

Jennifer- Our guest room has always housed a lovely or two. Now that they’ve all moved out on their own, we call it a guest room. And it’s all nice and painted and pretty. Wait, until Birdie moved back in in May. LOL

Bee- Mine too! They drive me nuts! I just want to stand up and yell, “Shut up!” LOL

Betty- I’m so glad I made you smile!

Alessandra-Kitties! It’s so good to ‘see’ you around so often! And do I detect a smiling face?

Nani- I loved spending time in the library growing up! That’s exactly what I mean about the favorite days!

Lucy- I used to take my kids to the library too. The one in town sucks but downtown has a great one. The lovelies prefer I call it their room too-Breezy and Deanie occupied that one when they were growing up. The 4th will be calm and quiet around here but fireworks on the 3rd? WTH?

Lois-We had a large weeping willow tree too! I LOVED that tree. And the magnolia! Mostly I read sitting in the magnolia.

Debby- The vet was great! I used to love the hotdogs my dad grilled- they were HUGE and delicious!

Jessica- Yeah girl! MAYO! Yummy!!!! As a matter of fact, I think I want one right now! But I have to go buy the dogs AND the mayo. LOL I love going back to my childhood. It was such a wonderful time.
