Waiting

I seem to be spending quite a bit of time waiting this Thanksgiving week. I had an agenda but the force is not with me.

Since the husband still hasn't done what he said he would about the trees (only for about 15 years now), there is nothing but dirt in the front yard and there's a huge circle of dirt under the magnolia tree in the back yard. So, I decided it's time for some cedar mulch and that, because I have NINE DAYS OFF from school, this would be the ideal time to get out there and get it done!

But it's raining today. And it's supposed to rain tomorrow. AND nobody has any cedar mulch around here.

The force is just not with me.

You would think that, by now, I would know better than to have an agenda. I did learn how to get through my days without one when the lovelies were growing up- you know, because when you have little kids, THEY set the agendas, not us. But, after three and a half years of having an empty nest, that old I-must-have-a-personal-agenda habit has come back. I like having an agenda now that I can. But the force is messing with me.

Also on my agenda was organizing the pictures on my computer for a project. But the mother board on my computer is dead. The hard drives are fine but the mother board DIED. And it's time to be thinking of Christmas gifts (and a new vacuum cleaner...the RED Shark) NOT a new laptop.

Stupid force.

HOWEVER- the force is working with me in that--
  • there's a new baby in the extended family and we're having a gathering next weekend to welcome him
  • the lovelies will be here for Christmas (three will be here for Thanksgiving)
  • I've already done most of the shopping I needed to do for Thanksgiving cooking/baking which was easy because---
  • I don't have much to cook this year at Thanksgiving (because my SIL is doing it. LOL)
  • I get to go out to lunch with my BFF this week!
  • That lunch is going to be FREE because the restaurant drew my Empty Nest card this month!
  • I have NINE DAYS OFF from school.
Yep. The force is working with me more than against me so poo on the agenda. Stuff will get done. Or it won't. But we'll all be here enjoying a wonderful, thankful holiday!

If it's Thanksgiving where you live, who's doing the cooking? What's on the menu?

  1. Well, the force is working with you in quite a lot of things it would seem. As to the others - pfft! just toss them to one side and enjoy your Thanksgiving celebrations, and your free lunch with your BFF! :)

  4. I'm about to bust waiting for Tuesday to get here...both girls arrive that evening. I always have an agenda too. Sometimes that's a good thing but often it's a huge disappointment : )

  5. Aw, the mulch can wait - sounds like you have a bunch of great things coming up, and NINE days! What a nice break! :)

  6. My daughter-in-law will be doing the cooking. Since they moved nearly 2 hours away 5 years ago, I have been going to their house each Thanksgiving.

I know what you mean about having an agenda. I had wanted to get out and pull up the annual wildflowers and plant bulbs for spring. We were having cold weather so I picked the nicest day possible. I was run in twice by pouring rain. A week later we began to have beautiful days and they have continued for weeks. So much for my thinking winter was arriving early!

Enjoy your lunch how nice to spend time with a friend and for free is even better.

    Have a great Thanksgiving.

  8. I like your attitude in the end, agenda or not, it will still be wonderful to be together with family, enjoying your lovelies that can be there and celebrating a new life in the family!

we're going to have three Thanksgiving celebrations, LOL, but none on Thanksgiving. Wednesday we're going to do the three of us Thanksgiving (hubby, son, me) with roast, potatoes, carrots, pie, rolls. Friday is out to my brother's/family where I'm not sure what will be on the menu and next Sunday we'll go up to where son's girlfriend lives and have lunch with them. And I just realized I'm not cooking for any of these! Wow that's something to be thankful for!

  9. Diane- That's exactly the attitude I'm planning to take. Note the word 'planning' in that sentence. LOL

Mimi- Yeah, sometimes that force is a royal pain. But I refuse to let it steal my holiday spirit!

Kathy- Oh, so you're the other one. LOL

Joyce- I'm so glad both your girls are coming home! And I cannot wait to see the pictures and read all about it! I hope y'all have a marvelous Thanksgiving!

Jessica- I'm so excited about the time off, I hardly mind at all about the mulch. Until they track the dirt in the house. LOL

living- Isn't that the way it always goes?! What a sense of humor Mother Nature has. LOL Thanks! I'm so glad to get out and spend an hour or so with the BFF. We haven't seen each other in over a month! Happy Thanksgiving to you!

JP- And that's just what I'm going to do! :)

betty- You don't have to cook for any of the gatherings?! That IS something to be thankful for! All you have to do is go and EAT! :)

  10. Enjoy your time off, and try not to worry too much. I know it's easier said than done, but it's worth a try. Now I have to practice what I preach, and try to ignore all of the things that need fixing around here! Have a happy Thanksgiving!

  11. But you have lovely things to look forward to even if you won't be doing yard work. It sounds nice. I wish I could hop over and have lunch. :)
I liked your list very much. Yay for a three day week. :0

  12. If you lived here, the snow would cover up all the didn't get done stuff. Don't fret, there's always later and really if later doesn't arrive....well them it doesn't matter either.
We both are very blessed Pam. Sometimes we have to look a tiny bit harder to see it for sure but we know deep down it's there.
I don't have to cook for TG, going to the casino with my in-laws. My first Thanksgiving without Mike, hope I can make it through the day with dry eyes. It's not the same at all, everything is so new and foreign.
Take care my friend and do have the most awesomest and blessed Thanksgiving ever.

  13. Julie- It is difficult when you have to see it every time you walk through the house or walk outside. But I am determined that it will not take away from my holiday spirit! I hope you are able to do the same!

Kim- I do indeed! And it won't bother me too much---until they track the dirt into the house! LOL I wish you could too!

Julie- You have SNOW?! AWESOME! You're so right about being blessed. And I do know that I take it for granted more often than not. But I'm working on it. It's not easy not having them home for Thanksgiving. But it does help when you know they'll be home for Christmas.
