Just say YES to the Hodge Podge

I don't know what I like best about Wednesdays- that they mean only two more work days for the week OR the Hodge Podge. But they're both something to look forward to each week. And I do!

So- Here's to Wednesday and the Hodge Podge!

1.  Chinese New Year will be celebrated on February 10th, and 2013 is the year of the snake. When did you last see a snake?  Are you okay around snakes or do they give you the shivers? I'm not even going to discuss these nasty things. HATE them. H.A.T.E.

2. The color red in Chinese culture usually means good luck.  Do you believe in luck? Unfortunately, I have VOLUMES to say about luck. Fortunately, I'm not going to go into all of it here. Let's just suffice it to say, I do AND, I don't.

3. sledding-ice skating-building a snowman...if given a choice, which activity would you choose?  Which of the three have you done most recently?  Ha. You mean here? In the low-country of SC? Well, let's see. We don't get cold weather OR snow SO---winter SUCKS down here. We don't get to sled or ice skate or build a snowman (unless we build one out of sand on the beach). I WANT WINTER!

4.  Ralph Waldo Emerson is credited as saying, "The years teach much which the days never knew."  Where have you seen this quote played out in your own life? Just about everywhere. I started my years full of myself but have finally realized that I don't know everything. And it definitely took me years to figure that out. Experience is the best teacher.

5. When was the last time you ate a cupcake? About 8 or so months ago...whenever it was that I went to that new organic restaurant in town. I had one of their coconut cupcakes. To. Die. For. And I am NOT exaggerating.
6. What's something you can't say no to? Right now I wouldn't say no to one of those delicious cupcakes. When the lovelies were growing up, I never said no when it came to volunteering at their school or teaching Sunday school at church or anything that revolved around them. As the lovelies got older, I taught myself to say, "No." Sometimes, I didn't even bother saying the word. I just laughed at the very thought. There's very little I won't say no to now. So few, as a matter of fact, that I can't even think of one. Except that cupcake.

7.  Are you a doodler?  Yes. It started when I was a kid. It was always helpful while I was supposed to be listening in class- it kept me from being quite so bored. It came in handy in high school and college too as well as in church when we had boring ministers. I still do it today when I'm in meetings. And yes, I do it right in front of whomever is doing the talking. It's the only way I can listen to them without my mind wandering off so they can get over it. My doodles are not something so grand that I could put them all in a book though.

8.  Insert your own random thought here. All I can think of right now is that, after school today, there will be only two more work days until the weekend. And that there will be no football this weekend. I hope I don't have withdrawals.

So, that's it for me this week. Joyce really gave us some hard ones this week. My head hurts now. LOL

Hope y'all have a fantastic rest of the week!

  1. Ah,be careful what you wish for....Winter in cold country is not that fabulous. You wouldn't be so anxious after you have had to shovel a massive driveway filled with wet, heavy snow!! P.S. We are supposed to get 2 "more" feet of snow this weekend. Sigh.....

  2. I always enjoy reading your answers.
I like your answers about luck.
So you hate snakes? I used to not mind them but I hate them now. Sasha doesn't hate anything nor would she kill until she saw a snake. She went berserk. It shocked me. I had to drag her off.
So many nice things are in your list today. I am glad it is almost Friday too.

  3. I don't like the word hate at all but it's perfect to say it about snakes!

  5. You should trek north...just heard an absurd forecast for Friday calling for feet of snow here. It's not quite as exciting as it would be if it fell in SC : )

I love anything coconut. I think I'm going to have to bake some cupcakes this weekend!

  6. Kim- Well, I don't have a massive driveway so that's good. Besides, that shoveling sounds like a husband chore. LOL I know I would feel differently if I lived in it all the time. But down here, I'd really just like to get some form of winter.

Kim- How's it going over there on the 'other' coast? :) I had a cat once who proudly brought me a snake she caught in the garden. I nearly had a heart attack! We've got to email soon!

Debby- I don't either. But with snakes, there's just no other way to go. LOL

JP- Amen Sista! LOL You're too funny!

Joyce- I know. I'm heading up there in April- too late for winter, of course. Maybe you could wish some of it down here for me? :) If you ever come down this way, we'll get you one of the ones I had. It was so good!

  8. Mmmm...coconut cupcakes. That sounds delish. But like you, it would have to be an imaginary taste sensation as I probably wouldn't want to eat it.

I have always been a doodler, too. Still do it at meetings where I am not totally engaged. In fact it's a sign of how bored I am - just count the doodles.

  10. Okay, now you have me craving a coconut cupcake and we just finished dinner!

I doodled Schoolhouse Rock lyrics in m,y first college government class. I actually did help me study interspersed in my notes on how a bill becomes a law and I've always known the preamble to the Constitution...except I can't recite it without singing it. :)

  11. Luck - "I do and I don't"? Does that mean you believe in luck when you are lucky and not when you are not?
I love to doodle especially with fine point sharpies (I should ask for some for my B-day). My doodle do have a common look to them.
