Soggy Hodgey Podgey Fun

Wednesday comes and brings with it a near end to a soggy work week and the Hodge Podge. I would appreciate the rain much more had it been cold enough to freeze which would have led to closing the schools. Sadly, this was not in the cards. I do, however, continue to appreciate our gracious hostess, Joyce, of the Hodge Podge! It's something to look forward to each week!

1.  This week marks the beginning of Lent...will you be giving something up or adding anything to your life during this season of the year? Nope.

2. The day before Lent is Shrove Tuesday... tradition states you eat pancakes on this day. In some parts of the world Shrove Tuesday is actually known as 'pancake day'. How do you like your pancakes? Or don't you? I do like pancakes. But I just like plain ones made with organic ingredients and slathered (yes, slathered) with maple syrup and, of course, a big 'ol glass of cold milk. I don't eat these anymore though. They are one of the things directly related to my current girth.

3.  I'm sure there are many, but what's one love song you really love? This is hard. It's NEVER easy for me to narrow music down to 'ONE'. So, I'm going to go with one I was just listening to on my iPod- Sunday Morning by Maroon 5.

4.  What are some things you do to let others know you love them? I don't strangle them when they do the same annoying things over and over and over again. Seriously, this has changed a bit since the lovelies got all grown up and out on their own. I make sure they know that I am here for them regardless of situation, time of day, mood, etc. I send a little sursy in the mail like a gift card or something I made. I make all their favorite foods when they come home. It's really just little things that make them know I'm thinking of them and love them.

5.  Roses...red, pink, or do you prefer another color? Can you recall the last time someone gave you flowers? Given your choice would you like to open the door and see a dozen red roses, a dozen purple tulips, or a dozen pink peonies? When I open the door, I better not see any flowers at all. I am not a fan of cut flowers. I don't like that people grow them just to kill them. I grow flowers in my yard but I don't cut them and bring them inside. I enjoy them outside and I prefer to buy them myself as I have a theme going out there--I plant only the favorite colors of our family.(In case you want to know, that means I have red, pink, yellow, orange, green and blue in the flower bed).

6.  President's Day will be celebrated in America next Monday. Does US Presidential history and trivia interest you?  Many Presidential homes are open to the public and offer guided tours...Monticello (Jefferson's home), Mount Vernon (Washington's home), Montpelier (James Madison's home), Hyde Park (FD Roosevelt's home) and The White House (home to the sitting President) to name just a few. Of those listed which would you be most interested in touring?  Why? I've been to Monticello, Mount Vernon and The White House. I'm very interested in Presidential history and biographies. One reason I love Charleston, SC so much is because of the rich history here.

7.  Are you good at keeping secrets? Yes. Maybe. No, not really. Depends. I don't know. Sometimes? Just don't tell me anything. Haha---for the most part it's, yes. But, if it's something really good and exciting...well, that's quite difficult for me. I always want to share good news!

8.  Insert your own random thought here. There's a stomach bug going around at the school where DoodleBug is doing her student teaching. It finally got the best of her. She was here from Saturday until just last night. I really like that she is attending college downtown because, when this happens, she can just come across the bridge and she's home where I can take care of her. Which I did. She's back at school today.  Poor baby hasn't been sick like that since she was a little kid herself.

Deanie has a new love interest. I have read a couple of things he's written her and I just want to say that if I was 30 years younger....that boy has quite a way with words! And he's nice and sweet and good to her. And attentive which is good because I asked her if she's told him that she's an attention seeking diva yet. Ha! I'm kidding. She's not that bad. Ah, young love. It's so romantic and fresh and spontaneous and exhilarating...

It's your turn to get on over to Joyce's and share your answers with everyone! Have a fantastic rest of the week, y'all!

  1. LOL on your answer to Nr. 5. Those colors you mentioned are pretty much every color. :) Ok, if I ever send you flowers it will be a potted plant.
So happy for Deanie. I love to watch young love too. Especially if it´s your daughter, you can really "feel" it.
    Glad DoodleBug is feeling better!

  2. I'm glad your daughter is nearby and you can offer some tlc if needed. When they're sick is when its hardest to be so far away.

I do think love is shown more in the day in day out living, than in one big grand romantic gesture. Anyone can do that, right? It's loving the crabby, moody, irrationa, menopausal (Ha!)l...that's where the rubber meets the road : )

  3. Poor DoodleBug ... I hope she's feeling better already. And how exciting for Deanie ... her new sweetie sounds like he might be a keeper?

  6. Sorry to hear about the sickness. The cruise ship we plan to board this weekend was code red a week ago. Hopefully it has been fumigated.

  7. The stomach bug seems to be making its rounds everywhere...so sorry it hit your daughter. How nice to live close enough to her so that you could take care of her and nurse her back to health.

  8. Lovely answers today.
I wish I had thought to get a picture on my blog of the roses that they have been putting into vases for tomorrow. I thought of you. I have never seen so many flowers in my life.
I hope you don't catch the flu. You are around kids too. :)

  9. Closing of schools? Since our blizzard LAST Friday, there are numerous schools and towns across CT who are still not functioning! Here, where we are, the roads are plowed well and schools are open, however, the large equipment needed to remove the snow from highways has been causing major traffic delays for those who do work. We are slated for two more snow falls this week!!...:)JP

  11. Hi Pam. Nice Wednesday Hodge Podge today! We had our pancakes last evening for Pancake Day (Shrove Tuesday). I like mine simple as well, with lemon juice and sugar. Mmmmmm! I often send little cards in the post to my two daughters.

  14. That's a great song. I just went to listen to it. I think I know this song from Lional Richie, it must be a remake. I love Maroon 5 but don't have a lot of their music although my phone rings to Moves Like Jagger! Got to go get this one on my phone. Thanks. Sorry DoodleBug got sick but nice that she can come home and be comfortable. I hope things work out for Deanie, I love romance!

  15. No roses for me. I'm VERY allergic to roses. Hubby says that makes me a cheap date. I was a bridesmaid in a wedding once with roses everywhere. It wasn't pretty. I needed a brown paper bag to put over my head. I could have carried a kleenex box instead of my bouquet(of roses!!)

  16. Betty- Thanks! I know, but notice there’s no purple in there. I don’t do purple. So true about young love!

Joyce- Me too. It really is hard when they’re sick and far away. You’re right. It’s in the day-to-day living. And it’s not easy.

Kathy- She is feeling better, thanks. She went back to school today. We’ll see about the new ‘friend’ for Deanie. It all depends on whether or not he enjoys doting on a diva. LOL

    MKM- Indeed it is!

Kathy- Agreed! How I miss it.

Retired- It was no fun at all. O, I HOPE it has too. That would be really bad on a cruise.

April- A 4th grader at my school threw up all over the library this morning. She had been in my lab 30 minutes prior. I’m crossing my fingers.

Kim- I’d love to see the pictures. Just wouldn’t want to have the flowers. LOL I hope I don’t either. A 4th grader threw up in the library 30 minutes after she left the lab.

JP- I’m so jealous of your winter! Please send some down this way!!!!

Stephanie- When I make them now, they’re gluten free and organic. But they’re just not that great without a bottle…I mean, a bit of maple syrup. LOL

Diane- Thanks! Lemon juice and sugar? Are your pancakes the same as ours? Or are they thin like crepes?

Becky- Really? Where did you live? Summerville?

Theresa- Thanks, me too! We’ve got it at my school now. I’m using Clorax wipes everywhere!
