Fitness

And FRUSTRATION. Let us NOT forget FRUSTRATION.

Some of you know that I've been on a health and FITNESS lifestyle change for about 4 years now. I've tried this and that and that and this. Some of it has worked, some of it hasn't and some of it might have worked had I stuck with it.

Over the last four years, I've seen success, back-sliding, success, FRUSTRATION, more back-sliding, success...it's a vicious cycle.

I've also learned MUCH. Quite a lot. More than I ever thought I would. And I'm still learning.

My FITNESS level is better than it has been in YEARS. Decades. My nutrition was great when I was growing up and when the lovelies were growing up. But, in the years that they were really growing up and going off to college followed by going out into the big world, my nutrition level plummeted to its lowest EVER.

I've been back on track for quite a while now. Especially in the FITNESS arena. It's become a habit.

I started running again and interchange it with Sprint 8s. So, every other day I'm either running or running sprint 8s seven days every week.

Until the Wednesday before spring break when my little Tucker darted in front of me. Yep. I hit the pavement and gave myself a slight meniscus tear in my left knee. Talk about FRUSTRATION.

I was on a roll (not when I fell...stop laughing) with my FITNESS regimen. I was becoming firm in places that thought they'd never see firm again. I was going to look close to good at Bestie's daughter's wedding next week. I even bought a new outfit. And my nutrition plan was adding to my exhilaration.

Now, I'm just flat out FRUSTRATED. I've been off the knee for ten days now. TEN. DAYS. I miss running. I miss my sprint 8s.

I started walking Tucker again two days ago. But we only go about a quarter of a mile. And it's slow going for now. I know not to rush it. But I want to get moving!!!

Exercise is like that. Before you know it, you're addicted to it and you need it.

And, when you can't do it, you get FRUSTRATED.

The most recent thing I've learned about FITNESS:
  • Take the dog for a walk and go back out to run. Duh.

Ok, let's see what y'all came up with for the letter 'F'!

  2. Cathy- It's better, just not 100%. I suppose it's good that it happened right before spring break. Even if it did mess up all my plans. Thanks for the well wishes!

  3. Hope you're 100% soon! I wish I'd get addicted to at least long daily walks. I'm so hot and cold depending on the weather. I know it would be so so much better for me.

  4. I have to admit somehow with all the switching over of blogs from reader to other things your blog got lost in all the switching, I actually thought you stopped blogging due to work, then I saw you on this hop (so excited and got you back in my new blog tracker). Anyway, I had no idea you hurt your knee until I happened to notice something you said on Facebook (which I am hot and cold on).
I know how hard you have worked over the years and how much you enjoy running, I hope you are up and running soon BUT listen to your body and the experts don't rush it and take slow when you start, you will get back to your normal, hang in there :)

  5. So sorry about your knee. I can just imagine your frustration. When a passion is taken away copping can be so hard. Hope your back to running soon.

  6. Laura- I hope so too. It's getting on my last nerve at this point.

Lucy- I'm not rushing it. No matter how annoyed I'm getting. I know in order to be back 100% I have to find some patience. LOL I'm so glad I'm not lost anymore!

Debby- I hope so too, thanks! It's finally getting better every day.

  7. Funny how exercise - a thing most of us try to avoid - can be as addicting as something that we all love...like, say, chocolate. I'm sure there's a message from the universe in there somewhere.

Hope that you get to wear the new outfit after all this frustration!

  8. I am glad you are feeling a bit better and can walk a little. Since you hurt your knee I can tell you I have been so much more careful because I cannot be still until June. :) I was thinking the other day I am in better shape now than I have ever been in my life well except when I was climbing trees.
I hope you are having a nice weekend.

  9. Stephanie- I think you're right about that. :) I better get to wear the new outfit. It's the first thing I've had in years that I'm actually looking forward to dressing up in.

Lynn- Thank you. We took a longer walk today and I think it's ok. No pain so far! :)

Kim- I know what you mean. I was being so careful but, that morning, I was feeling 'in the zone' if you will, and forgot to pay attention. Stupid me. Thanks girl! Hope yours is going well also!

  10. Dogs. Egads. We have three of them and there is no way I would try running with any of them. It is hard to walk around them in the house. They love to trap you in doorways. They get right in front of you and then Stop. I don't know how many times I have almost fallen over a Dog. Gah.

  11. I didn't know you were doing the A to Z challenge! So glad to see it. I haven't been able to jump around to favorites as much before today, seeing as how I've been busy trying to post every day.
So sorry about the knee. It is a royal pain to be stopped so abruptly from doing things you enjoy. Glad it's feeling better. I sprained my ankle terribly a month ago while playing volleyball too competitively for my age. I'm just now getting back to some sort of normal. We must be patient and let our bodies heal properly. I hate that!
I'll be checking in to see the rest of your letter posts!

  13. Hi Pam. I can imagine how frustrating this must be for you, with the whole knee business. Unfortunately, as you well know, it's not something that can be rushed, which is a shame, as you were doing so well with your fitness regime. I do hope that the knee isn't quite so painful now. Onwards and upwards!

  14. Robin- Birdie's dog is like that. He's here this weekend and he walks right in front of me and then stops. My Tucker isn't like that. The fall while running was totally my fault for being focused on the run and not on what Tucker was doing. I know better.

coop- It does seem to take longer to heal as we get older. I'm glad that doesn't stop us from getting out there though! Glad you got over here. I know what you mean about getting those posts out everyday. Exhausting. And time consuming. Ha!

Julie- Thank you! It's much better now.

Diane- Thank you. It's so much better now. I can get in and out of the car without practicing contortionist moves. Ha! It's back to work tomorrow and I think it's going to be fine for that. Just not good enough for running yet.

  15. SO, the other day you commented to me about the tear, and I thot it totally missed a post, or lot my memory (that happens a lot). So now, Im reading this post and I laugh out loud.. My husband asks whats so funny. I tell him, I didnt lose my mind, she hasnt told us yet" which of course made no sense to him, and he just nodded and walked on.
BUT, all that rambling to say, hope it heals quickly and your back to doing your 8s soon!!
Its amazing how you want something when you cant have it!

  16. Deb- LOL Too funny! It feels so much better now. Spring break is now over so we'll see how school goes tomorrow. I took a long walk yesterday and survived. But there's no running still. That's the part that's frustrating me for sure.
