Birthday Hodgepodge

One of the nicest things about having a kid move back into the nest is that you get to spend their birthday with them! That's one of the things I really miss about an empty nest. We always made such a deal out of the lovelies' birthdays. Now, I just take what I can get. But this year- I get it all! Happy birthday to DoodleBug!

And for even more fun, there's the Hodgepodge!

1. July 24th is Amelia Earhart Day.  Earhart was the first female to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean.  What's something you've recently accomplished solo? How apropos that you would touch on Amelia Earhart. She is DoodleBug's hero! DoodleBug read and reported on Amelia Earhart in the 3rd grade and has loved her ever since. Don't ever try to play Amelia Earhart trivia with DoodleBug- you won't win. :)  Oh- what have I done solo lately? Just about everything I do these days is solo. I won't go into why. Because it's negative and today is a special day!

2.  What's one product you use that never ever fails? ONE? Hmmmm....Well, I am in love with my Shark vacuum cleaner and it never fails me so, let's go with that one.

3. Have you found your place in the world? Where is it? I think so. Though I'm open to a new place. As long as it's near a coast. My place seems to change as time marches on. But, the older I get, the more comfortable I am with wherever my place happens to be. Just going with the flow.

4.  Worst movie you ever saw? Well, there's any B movie EVER. And then there's all those movies that I started but stopped about 5 minutes in. But, the worst movie I've ever seen all the way through would be....um....maybe The Mask? Roger Rabbit?

5. What's the last fun thing you did? I took DoodleBug shopping on Monday. That was fun! Time with a lovely is always fun!

6. The month of July is named for Roman Emperor Julius Caesar...ever been to Rome? What's your favorite Italian dish? I have not been to Rome. I'm partial to just about any Italian dish equally---LOVE!

7. What is one piece of advice you'd offer new mom Kate Middleton? Trust your gut and stand firm.

8.  Insert your own random thought here. Today is DoodleBug's 22nd birthday! I can't believe my baby is 22. How that happened, I do not know.

Here's to you Little Bit!

I'm off to prepare DoodleBug's birthday dinner. She has requested shrimp and grits, fried avocados and my grain free red velvet cupcakes! OH! And homemade lemonade!

Have a great week, y'all!

  1. Love all the Doodlebug pics! I have never ever heard of fried avocados, and truly have only tasted grits once. But I would love the recipe for your grain-free red velvet cupcakes! I would think that avocado anything would be delicious. What's not to like! Happy Birthday to your lovely. :-)

  2. Judy- Thanks! I just saw the recipe the other day and she LOVES avocados so they are on the menu! They are fried in almond meal and coconut oil. And my grits are not grainy, icky grits. They are smooth and creamy. Come on down and I'll make you some! I'll get the recipe up soon!

  4. Elizabeth- It's one of my favorites. I wonder why that is with us? Maybe we get less afraid of change and the unknown as we age? Thanks for coming by and commenting!

  7. Loved the doodlebug pics too! Wow! What a feast you are preparing for her birthday dinner. Yum! Have to chime in that I loved Roger Rabbit... I loved the slapstick and the inclusion of cartoons in real cinema. I thought it was pretty cool.

  11. After hearing the story about your friend's house sinking, I'm thankful taking down trees is all I'm dealing with! Of course, today I've endured a broken water line, and a severed Dish Network line, thanks to the stump grinder!

Happy Birthday to your Doodlebug! I know she'll enjoy having some mama's cookin', and you'll enjoy being able to spend her b'day with her!
