Hot Fun in the Hodgepodge

Summer vacation is almost over. In a mere two weeks, I shall once again begin to complain about being back at school reenter the wonderful world of educating elementary students.  I've had a somewhat productive and quite lazy relaxing summer. If it hadn't been hot, it would have been just perfect!

Luckily, the Hodgepodge is cool year round! (I know, corny.) So what are you waiting for? Click and join in!

1. Share one way you think the world has changed for the better since you were a kid? I'm digging most of the technology. Mostly the way it is easier to get and stay connected to loved ones and old friends who live far away. And cell phones- I have very much appreciated being able to keep in touch daily with the lovelies. I really loved this when they started driving!

2. How 'bout one way it's changed for the worse? The media. The way it sensationalizes EVERYTHING and tried to influence opinion by their biased reporting.

3. Starlight, starfish, starling, Starbucks...your favorite 'star'? Starlight because I like the night sky and the twinkling AND because of this:
Star light, star bright
First star I see tonight.
I wish I may,
I wish I might,
Have the wish I wish tonight.

4. Name a song that's overplayed, but you love it anyway. Well OF COURSE I can't think of one now.

5. When did you last have home made ice cream? Your latest favorite flavor? It's been way too long. My dad and I were just talking about this the other day and we had a lovely walk down memory lane! Peach is my favorite!

6. What do you think is the best way to inspire or motivate people? Smack them. I don't have a blanket answer for this one. I think that it totally depends on the personality of the person you are trying to inspire or motivate. I supposed the best thing is to set an example by the way we live our lives.

7. When was the last time you were without power? I sort of believe that being in power or in control is something that we tell ourselves we have but none of us truly do. At least as far as having either over another person. We only really have power or control over ourselves. I lose my self-control when I get really frustrated and feel helpless. Though this happens way less frequently the older I get. Oh---THAT kind of power. LOL We rarely lose power. Maybe that's why I didn't think of it that way. That AND the book I'm reading now and the last chapter was about the other kind of power. LOL

8. Insert your own random thought here. Not much going on in the noggin right now. Summer break is nearly over and I'm sort of starting to get back into school brain. Which means everything else is push to the back. Until June 2014. Ha!

Birdie's wedding plans are going....Ha! I have no idea. They have changed things around so much that everyone's heads are spinning. I do know that they went from having it here to having it in London and back to having it here. They have finally nailed down a venue so that's good. I know that this couple is VERY independent and do not want anyone helping them with anything, including paying for things. Basically, y'all know as much as I do. Talk about being put out. Sheesh.

I have to wonder if it would be different had everyone not had to witness the complete spectacle someone in this family made of himself at my BFF's daughter's wedding in April...it was so bad that relationships have changed.

ANYWAY---

Have a wonderful Wednesday, y'all!

  1. Hehe. Yeah, 'smack them.' You always make me laugh - and think how healthy that is! (the laugh, not the smack) :-) Please make my ice cream peach too.

  2. Oh dear. I hope things smooth out in the wedding planning department. Sounds stressful although London seemed like it would definitely add to the complication factor. In an awesome way of course : )

  3. Judy- I just couldn't resist! LOL Well, smacks can be healthy for the smackER, right? :)

Joyce- I hope so too. That's what they were saying about London. Plus, a lot of family members wouldn't have been able to make it due to age and lack of funds. I probably could have fixed the whole thing had I thought to tell them that, when they get married in London, they are responsible for flying the guests there to attend. LOL

  4. I'm thinking I like the thought of "smacking them" - don't know why you crossed that out!

I agree on #3 - I wish the bright lights of the cites could be dimmed a bit.

  10. We went back to school last Friday; the kids first day is Monday. If I could have had just about 3 more weeks, I think I may have been ready!
I think it's great that your daughter is doing the wedding all on her own...it would be just like having a son! All you have to do is show up! :D

  11. I like the connections too! Starlight for me and shooting stars. You know I say that poem pretty often. Well if they are independent about the wedding and don't want you help then I guess you should just enjoy the day when it comes. Glad they are back to here because London would leave a lot of people out of the picture.

  12. Smack 'em, yes, indeed! Some personalities needing a swift kick in the butt. Including yours truly at times. Peach ice cream, by all means. Having just married off our second son, I can feel that maybe you're waiting to exhale? It'll be wonderful. Our son and his bride didn't want too much help, either. Money, yes, that kind of help. But not the kindly suggestions I am notorious for offering.

  13. Smacking them seems to be a perfectly good way to motivate people of all ages....MY summer is over too, one more week and I have to go back, what happened to those long summer vacations? Starlight is my favorite too :)

  14. Terri- They get on my LAST nerve. I try not to watch any of them anymore.

Small Town- I'm so glad we're not back yet. I have so much to do---more resting, more watching movies, more...LOL

Debby- I say it too! One thing that's stayed with me from my childhood. I'm trying to keep that in mind about the wedding. But I feel so put out. Oh, well.

Zoanna- Me too! Though I don't often like to admit it. LOL Our first daughter to get married went the traditional route so I think that just messed me up with this one.

Alessandra- I agree. But they don't like it. Ha! Summer seems short when it's over but I have truly enjoyed mine. It's been so lazy!

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment! It makes me feel connected to everyone even though we may live far apart! Have a wonderful day!
