No MSG in the Hodgepodge

It's a lazy summer Wednesday around here today. I like those kind of days. I'm still cleaning out and organizing but I'm taking it slow and easy so I can get it right. Which makes it easy to take some time for the Hodgepodge!

Just click the button and come join in the fun!

1. What's something people might ask you for help with? Taking care of their animals while they go on vacation. You know, since I never go anywhere. And because I love animals. :)

2. What's something you might ask someone else for help with? I try not to ask anyone for help with anything. While I don't mind helping others, I don't like to need help. Does that fall under my personal trait of 'stubborn'? But, if I don't know how to build something or need something moved that is just too heavy, I will (begrudgingly) ask for help.

3.  Did your family take summer vacations when you were a child? If so, where did you go? If you're a parent, did/do you plan summer vacations with your own family? Did/do they resemble those you took as a child? Yes! Every summer we went to the beach for a week. It was great! We only took about 3 vacations while the lovelies were coming along. I'm still working on a post about this for tomorrow.

4.   Pool-lake-ocean...which one is most appealing to you on a hot summer day? Pool. I used to LOVE getting in the ocean and the lake but, for some reason, not anymore. I no longer enjoy swimming in bodies of water where I can't see what's swimming with me.

5.  Have you ever justified using the expression, 'you gotta be cruel to be kind'?  Was it really necessary or were you rationalizing? I've never used that expression.

6.  The Journal of Psychology recently mentioned the results of a survey identifying the ten most hated foods as-liver, lima beans, mayonnaise, mushrooms, eggs, okra, beets, brussel sprouts, tuna, and gelatin.  Of those foods, how many do you actually hate? Anything you'd add to the list? Not only do I particularly HATE liver, I'm allergic to it- the taste and the smell. And tuna in a can is just gross. I can't think of anything I'd add to the list.

7. What's your favorite book or movie set in a beach or lake town? The only book I can think of right now is Tell No One by Harlan Coben. The only movie I can think of right now is Mr. Hobbs Takes A Vacation.  Of course I'll think of more after I post this. :)

8. Insert your own random thought here. Warning: Soap Box timeDid y'all know that Natural Flavors is another name for MSG (monosodium glutamate)? It comes disguised under the names of 'Modified Food Starch'; 'Modified Corn Starch'; 'Autolyzed Yeast Extract'; 'Natural Smoke Flavors'. MSG is one of the most common food enhancers. It intensifies your taste buds and makes you think the food tastes better than it actually does. It tricks your taste buds into eating lower quality food and into eating more of it as it is quite addictive. Why? So food manufacturers can increase their profits. MSG increases serotonin and insulin.

Ok, that's basically what Dr. Berg says in the first part of the video. But watch it for yourselves. It's worth the 9 minutes or so. It makes me want to slap the crap out of food manufacturers. And I'm pretty sure they're in cahoots with the pharmaceutical companies. The food makes us sick and fat and the pharmaceutical terrorists feed us pills that DON'T HEAL us but make us feel just good enough to stay on the meds.

"For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evils..."

I am sharing this just for the sake of sharing. I receive nothing in return except the knowledge that I've put something helpful out there!  :)

Enjoy the rest of your week, y'all!
And stay away  from MSG!

  1. Glad you added the MSG bit. It is such poison! and yes, comes disguised as several different things, including 'spices' and 'natural flavor.' Just when you think you've found a brand you can trust, you suddenly notice a product that contains one of those incognito ingredients. It's very frustrating. I absolutely never ever buy canned soups (or canned almost anything). When I think of some of the foods I grew up with, such as green beans with cream of mushroom soup and french fried onion rings on top, it makes me shudder. I see so many young families eating all this poison and it makes me sad that these kids are getting that stuff into their bodies - and getting used to that 'tasty' poison. Is it any wonder we have such a rise in ADHD and other neurological issues.

Oh. Sorry, Pam. I kinda took over your soapbox. :-( Right now I'm reading the book 'It Starts With Food,' which my daughter got me as a Kindle gift. I think you'd find it really interesting!

Enjoyed your HodgePodge. Guess I kinda took off on your last bit. :-((

  2. Judy- I don't mind at all! The more we get up on the soapbox about it, the more likely we can make a difference! I'm glad you shared the book- I'll definitely check it out! Thanks!

  3. I love to go traveling and for some reason I like a pool better than the ocean or lake BUT if you twist my arm I will gladly hang out at the other two :)

  5. I like Harlen Cobens books-he's a Jersey boy you know : ) I have not had a lazy day. I have company coming so am busy cleaning and doing stuff I should have already done, plus had my mammogram right in the middle of the day, which was really poor planning on my part. I'm ready for a glass of wine, but my vacuum is sitting in my bedroom and I feel like I should use it before I take it downstairs. I do not like to vacuum after 11 am : )

  6. Joyce-I did not know that he's a Jersey boy. I won't hold that against him. LOL Seriously,I love him! And I want to marry Myron Bolitar. LOL Mine started out lazy but ended up with posting on Craigslist, moving furniture around, cleaning under the moved furniture and steam cleaning a chair. I. Am. Pooped.

  10. It's always the good tasting stuff that's usually bad for you. Moderation is the key to a health, happy life. Unfortunately, most Americans don't understand this simple rule. Of course, there are some who plain allergic to MSG or other additives. The way manufacturers are so sneaky with wording the ingredients on their labels requires one to be a chemist or nutritionist to decipher. You're so right the pharmaceutical companies (btw, loved how you referred to them as terrorists - lol) only cover up the symptoms & NEVER heal you. There's nothing wrong with getting on your soap box every now and again. It does the soul good. :D

  11. Thanks for the information!
I'm with you...I don't like swimming in something when I don't know what's swimming with me!
