A Project

One of  favorite pieces of furniture is my great grandmother's sideboard. I used to keep about 30 pictures, in frames, on top of the sideboard. Before the holidays, I decided that I was completely OVER having to dust all those frames and so, I came up with a better idea.

(Please forgive the quality of the pictures. I used the camera on my phone for some. I promise the projects look much better in real life. Y'all will just have to come over and see for yourselves).

I took a bunch of my favorite photos, including the ones in the frames, and changed them from color to a sepia tone and had prints made--which is so very easy to do via Walmart's website.

I laid them out in an effort to attach them to the top of the sideboard--- like a big collage.

This was the hardest part.

All I did was attach the pictures with Mod Podge.

And now, I have this--I put a piece of glass on top of the pictures AFTER I sealed them with Mod Podge.

The pictures are not very good. I just used my phone camera and this next one has a filter on it...experimentation gone wrong. But y'all can see that this will be so much easier to clean. And more pleasing to the eye.

I was so pleased with the way it turned out, that I made this one and put it over the window in the living room. (Again with the stupid filter).

Here it is a little better. No glass on this one. But it is sealed with a coat of Mod Podge.

I am working on another one for over the French doors. But it will be a bit different. I'll put it up as soon as I have it ready which will be a while since I'm slow when using Photoshop.

Ok, honest opinions.

  1. I think it is a fantastic idea. I really like the one over the windows. I will admit to cringing just a bit that you covered them with Mod Podge, but other than that I think it is a really nice idea.
A lot easier to take care of too. What other projects are you going to be doing?

  5. Great decorating ideas!! I also got tired of all the photos, all over the house. We got a digital photo frame, and that runs all the time on a shelf in the living room. There are over 100 photos on it now! Only one frame to dust. We do what we have to do, don't we?!

  6. I did that too, on my computer desk. It was years ago, and the pics are so out of date, but they bring back happy memories.
