Sizzlin' With The Hodgepodge

It's all about heat and humidity here in the low-country. Not that it's anything new, but I'm still over it. The mornings haven't been too bad though what with the sea breeze so I've been busy in the flower garden. It's a good thing we all have the Hodgepodge to keep us busy when it's too hot to be outside though!

Oh! And a happy belated birthday to Joyce's mother! Hope it was a good one!

1. July is National Anti-Boredom Month. When was the last time you were bored? What's your go-to cure for boredom? I got a little bored on Sunday but I cured it speedy quick by getting up and cooking. When I can't figure out what else to do or don't want to do any of my choices, I cook. Cooking is fun and always a good cure for boredom.

2. What's the last thing you made a reservation for? If you're talking about for a meal then I haven't. The best places to eat in the Charleston, SC area do not require reservations. If they want a reservation, you're eating at a touristy place and are far from getting the best food our area has to offer. Otherwise, it would be during the wedding preparations- I had to make reservations for the cottages for the wedding party and the place where I hosted the bridal luncheon.

3. What's one thing on your summer 'bucket list'? Any plans to make it happen? I don't have a bucket list. I'm afraid that, if I make one, as soon as I've accomplished everything, I'll pass on. LOL There are quite a few things on my summer 'to-do' list, however. One was to finish my last picture collage thingy to go over the French doors. I just finished it yesterday. On to the next item on the list!

4. What's your favorite summertime sip? Water. I'm a water drinker every single day. On the very few times I go for something different, it's tea (the 'sweet' is implied.)

5. What do you find is the best way to handle another person's hostility and hopefully ease the tension? Oh my goodness. I do NOT possess any form of diplomacy that would help in a situation like this. I get ticked off at people like this and all I want to do is smack the crap out of them. Whenever I encounter these people, I have to walk away. HAVE to walk away. That being said, if it's a kid, no problem. I can maintain a calm and relaxed tone and manner and gently talk them down. Adults I have ZERO patience with.

6. Your favorite film set in summer? I don't have a favorite but I do enjoy these: Stand by Me; Endless Summer; Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation; Now and Then; Dirty Dancing; The Sandlot; Summertime; Jaws; The Long Hot Summer...

7. What word are you using too much lately? You do NOT want to know. Frustration is running high at this house this summer. I'll keep it to myself.

8. Insert your own random thought here. It's too hot and humid to find a thought of any kind in my head. Summer weather in the low-country is not conducive to thinking abilities. We're lucky we don't melt away. Just walking down the driveway to the mailbox is exhausting. But at least we don't have to go to school! :)

Have a wonderful week, y'all!

  1. A couple of bloggers mentioned going to Charleston...I told them to stay away during the summer & wait until Oct. to go! Good tip about the restaurants...if we make it down there over Fall Break I'll be asking you for recommendations for local eateries!

  2. It is hot and humid here in FL, too. Miserable just going out for the morning paper, at the end of the driveway. Good grief!

My movie answer was Stand By Me, but I also LOVE Dirty Dancing.

  3. I find cooking to be therapeutic too. And I'm with you on hostile adults...whyyyy??? Does hostility actually get people what they want? Seems to me it causes people to avoid you when you're always hostile. I've had someone I've had to deal with this year who is this way, and it has been so hard. Stay cool!

  4. Mary- Better tell them to wait until November. Our summer temps don't tend to cool off until then. LOL Let me know! I'll get you a list!

Terri- Right?! Same for me and the mail. Just to the end of the driveway and I wonder if I can make it back into the house. LOL

Joyce- You know, you're right. People do tend to avoid those who are difficult. I've recently distanced myself from a couple of difficult individuals and I'm so glad. It's sad too, though. And yes, I've seen hostility get people what they want. But it comes at a price. They lose their credibility.

  5. Yep, it sounds like you're having the same kind of weather we're having here... Yuk!

Both of my favorite movies made your list, too! Yay!

I can't agree with you about cooking. I hate anything to do with the kitchen, these days :)

  6. Kathy- It's physically defeating. I'm so glad I don't have to work outside. I don't have what it takes to do that in these summers. I'm still ok in the kitchen though I am waning somewhat.

  7. Smack the crap out of them--yup, I've felt that way, too, but generally the hostile people I encounter are strangers--and big ones at that, so smacking is not a viable option. Walking away is my MO.

I so want a trip to Charleston. I think it sounds like a lovely destination for good food, southern hospitality, and nice weather--in November. Maybe an anniversary trip after Christmas? How would that be? Good idea or not?

  8. Zoanna- LOL Too funny! I live with a hostile person but most of the ones I witness are parents at school. Let's just say that it's a good thing I'm not an administrator. :) After Christmas is a great time to come! Rarely do we get truly 'cold' here. I've been known to wear flip flops in January. Then again, we've had snow in January too. But only once. It's not really cold until February. January will probably give you 40-50 degree nights. Not bad at all!

  9. I `Love` to cook, it's the cleaning up that gets me.
Anyway, I always cook from recipes.
I have recipes in the form of books, brochures, those printed from the internet, Pinterest....(:

I am learning to drink more water everyday. I bought an 8 cup jug, so that helps. I love `sweet` tea. But with diabetes I have to be careful.

  10. Michelle- Agreed on the cleaning up. I don't enjoy cleaning anything. :) Drinking that water IS a learning experience. It took me quite a while but I'm drinking 64 oz/day without much trouble at this point. Seriously, you really do have to be careful with diabetes. My granddaddy had it (the really bad one) and my mother has it too(the not as bad one). I'm hoping it passes me by. Take care!

  11. I love your summer movie list! Yes, "Dirty Dancing"! I should have thought of that! We were in Chucktown last week and had my daughter & fiancĂ©'s wedding photos done there… in the historic section and in Battery Park. They really turned out beautifully - but this mother of the bride can't show them just yet!

  12. Marla- We had Birdie's bridal portraits done downtown Charleston- Waterfront Park, the Battery, Rainbow Row, the cobblestone street, every alley we passed by, the old museum..it was so much fun! We never had engagement photos done, time snuck up on us. LOL

  13. Enjoyed your answers. Don't know if I could take much humidity. We were in Texas once in August and thought I'd melt away. Plenty hot in California that's for sure, but not so much humidity. I am kind of a baby about heat I have found the older and older I get, lol Enjoy your day!

  14. cooking for curing boredom - I'll eat to that!
Stand by Me - great movie

  15. Debbie- Thanks! I've made the same discovery with age. And it goes the other way as well- I can't tolerate really cold weather anymore. Go figure. LOL

bill- LOL You crack me up!

  16. I'm definitely with you on #5. I can't abide people who choose to be miserable and try to take down everyone else with them. I think of you whenever we have a hot and humid day here, and remember that where you live you'd consider it a chilly day!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Judy- Hahahaha! Yes, and I would love one of those chilly days right about now! :)

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment! It makes me feel connected to everyone even though we may live far apart! Have a wonderful day!
