Google is the Bane of My Existence Right Now

Making changes when Google is involved is nearly impossible. I'm not joking.

Our school district switched to Google last year. Probably NOT the best idea, but who asked me? Nobody. Anyway, it's almost time to pay for the domain for Empty Nest and I need to update my billing. No problem, right? Wrong.

For some reason, I am stuck in a sign-in loop and, when I do get through, I'm told that I am not the admin of the domain but that my school district is. What does this mean?

It means that, after following all Google's useless help center suggestions, contacting some school district gurus and sweating over this for over a month, the domain will not be renewed.

Basically, I'm screwed. No one can or will answer my question on how to get into the admin console when I keep getting told that the school district is the admin. I can't seem to fix it.

Now, I don't know if that means I'll lose access to Empty Nest altogether or it will revert back to a blogspot addy or what. Which is another reason I thought starting the new blog, Grinding My Grits, would be a good idea. I will register for a domain but NOT until after this whole thing with Empty Nest is in the past.

If anyone out there knows how to resolve this issue or to actually get in touch with someone at Google, please share. Otherwise, we'll just have to see what happens.

It's a shame, really. I've quite enjoyed being on Blogger with Empty Nest. Even if it's something I did, I just need to know how to fix it and get the domain renewed.

Anyone know what to do about this?????

  1. Oh no not in no man's land. I would be in such a panic.
That is what is the hardest about blogging and knowing you are pretty much on your own.
Please keep notes on this so if you do get it fixed, you can help us. Because you know, it will happen.

  5. Hey, there. It's Courtney from The Brown with Long Hair blog...

    ^^^^THIS.

Unfortunately, I've got nothing to add -- other than totally sharing your frustration. But I concur that it's easier to find a yellow needle in a haystack than it is to actually make contact with live person at Google.

If you find a way over the hump, though, please do share. I'll be all ears.

  8. Do you do web related work for the school district? I guess you are wondering why the school and yourself got mixed up on the google accounts. That's what it sounds like to me. I've never register a domain with google. I have used Go Daddy for a few domains. My blogs just use the blogspot.com url. I do redirect lislman.com to the blog but that was easy in the Go Daddy domain manager. Sorry I'm not much help.

  9. bill- No. I will be updating the website this year but I haven't thus far. I teach in the computer lab to all 671 students. The domain is with Go Daddy but it is through Google. And there's never been an issue until the school district switched. I guess it has something to do with connecting my school account on my personal computer???? I don't know. Good grief. Thanks anyway!

  10. Sorry, Pam. I've got my own issues right now and have no idea how to resolve them. I can't imagine actually finding a warm body at the other end of a Google phone number. Good luck.

  11. Judy- I went ahead and got a new domain. You just have to use www.emptynest1.net instead of dotccom. What's up with yours?
