OverTheTop

I don't know how most of you feel about high school, but I hated mine. I still do. And, if I saw any of the people I knew back then, I wouldn't give them the time of day. With one exception..

My BFF in high school was awesome! She was smart and funny and we had such a great time hanging out together. There was a span of a couple of years that we lost touch- she got married early and I went off to college. While I was still partying studying hard in college, we reconnected only to lose touch once again. Don't worry though! We have reconnected and it's just pure joy to know that she is still the wonderful person I remember her being. Even though she lives far, far away in a foreign land (Illinois) we stay in touch via Facebook and email.

And so, it is with great pleasure that I get to tell y'all that my BFF from high school is now a PUBLISHED AUTHOR! (That's her in the picture that I might have lifted from her Facebook page...)

Nancy, that's her name, is a fitness guru. She looked great in high school but she looks even better now (I might hate her for that.) She has written a murder mystery novel, OverTheTop, that takes place around a gym owned by the main character, Claudia Monroe. Nancy sent me a copy for myself and one to giveaway to one of y'all! (We'll just do the same thing- leave me a comment and I'll enter you in the drawing.)

As with most books I read, I didn't get totally caught up until after the first few chapters but, once that happened, I didn't put it down until I got to sleepy to hold my eyes open. I picked it right back up the next morning and didn't do a single thing until I finished reading it that evening.

Nancy asked me if I figured out who the murderer was before the end of the book and I told her that I did. But not at first. The actual murderer was not in my group of suspects until way later in the book. She threw me off because of the type of murder it was---I won't tell you anymore about that. I was, of course, pulling from all the information I gather, mentally, from all those murder and crime shows/movies I watch. Ha!

This murder mystery was just right for me. I enjoy these types of books as long as they don't go overboard and get so intense that I put the book down without ever finishing it. In Over The Top, Nancy's use of intensity was just right. There were times when I was all, "Oh crap! This isn't good!" or "WTH?! I did NOT see that coming!" But it was the kind of intensity that made me want to keep reading. Not the kind that was going to give me nightmares.

I like that the action started early in the book instead of wasting a lot of time wondering if anything was ever going to happen. I also liked that, once the action began, it didn't go all crazy. There was a good flow that followed and kept me interested in the story.

I'm not giving anything away, other than a free copy of the book, since this is a murder mystery!

Now, just leave a comment and I'll enter you for the giveaway!

I keep in touch with about 10 people I went to high school - and my twin sister and I are still best friends with twins we met in 3rd grade - going on 36 years of friendship!

Don't enter me in the book giveaway though - I am sad to say I don't read many books. :(

  7. I live in that foreign land you mention. Mysteries were one the first types of stories I enjoyed reading as a kid. Please drop my name on your list of suspects for this book.
Hey, not that I'm counting but doesn't this make it two authors you personally know now?

  8. Looks like a fun read! I know a few people who work out til they look "deathly"…but I'm guessing there is more to this story than just that!
