What's the Word? Hodgepodge!

It's a short week at school. The kids don't have to come on Thursday or Friday. And, while we have a PD day and a teacher workday, it's almost like two days off because---the kids won't be there. :) And then, we have Monday off. It's always so choppy when we get back from winter break. I like it and I don't. It's just not that easy to get back into the swing of things after two weeks off.

It's nice to have Joyce back with the Hodgepodge. I can't believe the wedding came and went. It seems like yesterday that her sweet one got engaged! It was like that for my two married lovelies too. Speedy quick. Anyway, let's Hodgepodge!

1. What's your best piece of advice for a newly married couple? I'm asking for a friend. Talk TO not around/at/about each other. AND, separate bank accounts. Seriously, separate.

2. Before we're too far into the new year I wanted to post a question Teresa submitted during the December giveaway. Teresa blogs over at Being Refined As Silver, so everyone go say hi.

Teresa asks, "What were you doing on December 31st, 1999?"and "Did you or your family make preparations for Y2K?" We had the usual New Year's Eve at my mother's house with food and fireworks but we did NOT make any special plans just because it was the turn of the century. And I only know where we were because I looked up the pictures. I could never figure out what all the hoopla was about. Still haven't. Another year is, another year.
3. According to Global Language Monitor, the most used word of 2014 isn't a word. It's the heart emoji. Huh? How can something that's not a word be the most used word, but I digress. What do you think was your most used word in 2014? It was probably more of a sound than a word. Something like, Ugh or sigh.

4. Speaking of words, it's that time again. Time for Lake Superior University to present a list of words they'd like to see banished (for over-use, mis-use, and general uselessness) in 2015. You can read more about the decision making process here, but this year's top vote getters are-

bae (before anyone else), polar vortex, hack, skill set, swag, foodie, curate/curated, friend-raising, enhanced interrogation, cra-cra (as in crazy), takeaway, and -nation (a suffering sports suffix).

Which of these words/phrases would you most like to see banished from everyday speech and why? Is there a word not on the list you'd like to add? Hahahahaha! Enhanced interrogation. Riiiiight. Why don't they just call it what it is: torture. At least be honest about it. I mean, it is generally assumed that the general population is stupid. But, surely, we're not THAT stupid. Mostly, those words don't bother me one way or the other. But my favorite is cra-cra. I use it all the time. To describe myself. :)

5.  January is National Hot Tea month? Are you a fan? Do you like flavored teas? How do you take your tea? Have a favorite cup or teapot? How many cups of tea do you consume in a given day?  I don't drink tea often. If I do, and my choice is hot, then I'll usually take coffee or hot chocolate over the tea. We are sweet tea drinkers down here in SC and I like a little tea with my sugar and lemon. And I like it iced.

6. Whatever happened to Baby Jane? Cuh- RAY-ZEE movie!
7. What is one book on your must-read list this winter? Every darned thing on my shelf that I haven't read yet. I am finishing a biography of Vince Lombardi now and the next will be a biography of Carlos Santana.

8. Insert your own random thought here. Another lovely has moved back home for a couple of months. I'd love to tell y'all how great it is but, someone will have to convince me of that first. I'm sure I'll be blogging about it. I've already posted one right here. Good grief. I must have done something really, really horrid in a past life.

BTW, I've been enjoying the wedding posts, Joyce! Keep 'em coming, friend!

Have a great rest of the week, y'all!

    1. It's my oldest. Unfortunately, she's getting a divorce. But I won't post much about it until after the fact. So that what I say can't be used against her and all that. The cra-cra lives on. Strong. LOL

  2. Uh, oh! I may be in trouble because "cra-cra" is my least favorite word! Sorry! Something about it just grates on my nerves...

    1. It's a running joke around here so I think of it as good. And funny. :)

  3. cra-cra was my least favorite, too.... It reminds me of Oprah saying "va-jay-jay"....

Enjoyed your answers, Pam!! Our kids get Friday and Monday off from school. It just makes my commute easier, without the school traffic. Yay!!

    1. It's just a running joke around here and we love using it. The school traffic does tend to make others commute miserable. Not mine though. Since I have to be there before the kids and I only live a mile and a half from the building. Ha!

  4. Totally agree with your answer about "enhanced interrogation" but totally disagree about couples having separate bank accounts. Sorry. I think "hiding" money and getting too specific on what is mine and what is yours, instead of it's "ours," is not a good thing.

    1. It's not hiding money in my case. It's more of a protection. Things are split into a joint account for paying household bills and the rest goes into separate accounts. That way, all the bills get paid and the rest can be dealt with as each pleases. In my case, I'm more about saving as I like having a buffer. The other one doesn't at all. It works here and, as I've heard, it works quite well with others too. Of course, it's not for everyone. But I love it. I may have simplified it but I wasn't writing a post about money and marriage. LOL

  5. All those people who worried and stressed over Y2K ended on the 1st of January 2000 with egg on their face since nothing happened and I can tell you I didn't think it would, I remember watching fireworks from my backyard at midnight

    1. I didn't think it would either. And, I thought those who did were just silly. :)

  6. Work would be great if it wasn't for all of those kids, right? :) We only have Monday off, but I'll take it!
CH & I have separate accounts...he said he was getting tired of my spending all of my money, and all of "our" money! :)

    1. Ha! So true. LOL I like being able to keep my money that doesn't have to go towards household bills. Or spend it. Without anyone commenting on it. :)

  7. Baby Jane is the first thing that popped into my head! I know the feeling too well with our daughter living here with us. I will say a prayer for you, it's not easy.

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment! It makes me feel connected to everyone even though we may live far apart! Have a wonderful day!
