Soothing the Soul with the Hodgepodge

September was supposed to bring in fall complete with the traditional fall weather. Talk about epic failures. Sheesh. It might as well be summer. UGH. When is it going to end? Mother Nature is ruining my favorite season. Hmph.

At least it's Wednesday and we can entertain ourselves and each other with the Hodgepodge!

1. Something on your October calendar that makes you smile? Yes. Anything that isn't school related. Ha! All four of the lovelies should be home in October for a family portrait of the women in the family. Unless the date changes to November. Oh, and Halloween, of course!

2. Food for the soul or music for the soul...which camp are you in? Tell us why. Music. Because music touches my soul. My tastes are diverse depending on my mood or needs. Music is always there and never fails to provide whatever it is I need. It keeps me close to those who live away too. The connection I have with music runs deeper than any relationship I have with people. Except for one person--but even then, it's a close second.

3. What are two or three things you've learned recently as the result of an online search?

  1. I don't know a darn thing about teleprompters. We have a news show once a week at school and a teleprompter would be great. But I can't figure out which one will work.
  2. There are some awesome sites for pretty darn awesome stocking stuffers.

4. Share your favorite game day recipe. You can describe it, post the how-to, or add a link to the actual recipe. Probably chili. I can't tell y'all how or post the recipe because I don't have one and the stuff turns out differently every time. Like all my recipes. But it's good!

5. What are your five essential steps for creating the perfect morning routine?

  1. Don't go to school.
  2. Walk the dog.
  3. Exchange special 'Good Morning' banter.
  4. Drink coffee while listening to music.
  5. Read books while listening to music.
6. What small thing have you taken note of today? I've been taking notice of the energy in whichever room I find myself in. It has been an interesting observation during which I've discovered that the energy stems from me. So, I've been making myself aware of the energy I emit and I'm working on making it positive as often as possible. I've even been setting my phone alarm. Because I can't remember to do it otherwise. LOL

7. Sum up your September in seven words or less. Month long bad mood due to heat.

8.  Insert your own random thought here. I can't hear anything up there. Ha! Our PTA is sponsoring family portrait as one of their fundraisers. I can't wait to sign up, or figure out how/where to do so. The lovelies and I decided that it would be a good idea to have a portrait made of the five of us with Mimi, my mother, and her sister, our Aunt Betty. It was also a good way to get everyone home at the same time without having a holiday. I can be smart, sometimes.

Have a great rest of the week, y'all!

  1. I like that morning routine. And what a great idea to get a portrait of the women in the family. And yes, very clever to find another reason to get together with people you love. Sorry that September was miserable there. It was beautiful here, but then again we're at 33 degrees this morning, so we're on that downward trend toward my least favorite months.

    1. 33 degrees? Wow. That's a bit on the chilly side, isn't it? LOL We were at 92 here. Which is a lot on the too hot side. Looking for some fall in between. :)

  3. I love the idea of an all-girl family photo! I'd love to do that with my mom and all the girls in the family, but geography makes it so difficult. I hope you get a taste of fall soon!

    1. True. Your geography is a bit more spread out than ours. The only one not living in town now is in Nashville so that is still doable. Hope your girls are well!

  4. Your Hodge Podge is always delightful. I have yet been able to answer all the questions honestly...don't let them know what you're thinking!...but one of these days I might surprise you.

I could do with an energy chance.

    Have a blessed week.

  6. I too love the idea of all the women having a family portrait - I think the last one we did with my brother, sister and all our kids was when my daughter was 6 and she's now 23! :P

  8. For me the first thing I need to do each day is wake up, if I don't wake up then I would be dead and I am not ready to be dead just yet, after waking up I like to go for a walk, ok I like to get dressed and then go for a walk as going for a walk in my nightie would just be wrong, I would love to have a family portrait done again but can't find a place that does them affordabley not a word I know but you get what I am saying

    1. I understand. I am doing it for our PTA since they get 3/4s of the money for the sitting. Plus, it's a professional photographer and we don't have a portrait of the women in the family. So, we won't eat for a few days. LOL

  9. Certainly agree on music for the soul. But I can't read a book and listen to music. Too distracting for me. Reading the paper maybe but not a book.
    enjoy your photo shoot

    1. Mostly the music has to be instrumental (preferably classical) when reading. Otherwise I have to reread the pages because I bust out singing along. :) Thanks!

  10. How wonderful to get that family portrait, hope it all goes perfect! I love making chili. I make a vegetarian one with black beans which our daughter can enjoy. Interesting answer about the energy in your room, I have to try that at home.

    1. I'm excited about it! I am making mine without beans now since beans have carbs. It's still good though! The energy thing makes a huge difference. I'm also checking my patience level (not asking for patience, just checking in on it) and my speech- am I being clear, etc. This self improvement stuff is hard. LOL

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment! It makes me feel connected to everyone even though we may live far apart! Have a wonderful day!
