#motherhoodisforlife

Y'all know this cutie, right? My Deanie girl?

Well, she cut her hand last week and had to get stitches. STITCHES. The first of the lovelies to ever get them. And I wasn't there.

Why was I not there? Because she's 28 years old (29 next week) and lives eight hours away. That's a long way no matter what's going on.

It makes no difference that she only needed three stitches. The fact is, she needed stitches and I wasn't there. Drummerboy wasn't there either because he's touring. For some reason, that made it worse even though she has about a gazillion friends.

Now, I ask y'all, how is it that, even though she is eight hours away and 28 years old and only needed three stitches and assured me she was fine, I felt that epic mom fail feeling?

Love you my Deanie girl!

Nothing painful should ever happen to our children. No matter how old they are. At least not when we can't be there. Fact is, we should pass a law forbidding them to move more than 20 minutes from us.

Yes, it was only three stitches. Yes, she is fine. Yes, I still wish I had been there.

  1. Awww, such a cute post. I did smile, but, yes, poor Deanie. I totally agree that they shouldn't be allowed to live more than 20 minutes from us!

    1. I know! It really doesn't matter how old they get, does it?

  2. I'll just bet she had a moment or two when she wished her mom was there to take care of her, too. I still have those moments and I'm a lot older than her...a LOT older, and my mom has been gone since 1995. Doesn't mean we ever stop needing our mom, especially when we are sick or hurt. Very sweet post!

  3. I definitely get it : ) I was sick recently (and am more than 28, ahem) and I was wishing my mama were nearby to bring me gingerale and feel sorry for me.

    1. You might be more than 28 but you do NOT look it, girl! Hope you're feeling better. I always bring my girls ginger ale too. Just like my mother did. :)

  5. I can certainly relate to this ...

Mother-hood is for life and that bond is ever strong, no matter if your offspring are just around the corner or much further away!

    All the best Jan
