The Daily Grind

Do your days seem to be the same every day? Mine do. At least, when I am working . I have to keep a routine and put a strict schedule in place when school is in session. Otherwise, I couldn't function. And yes, it's the same schedule every day. I think that's one reason why I love the weekends so much- there's no structure to those two days that fly by at the speed of light.

My weekday schedule goes something like this (the times are nearly right on target. And yes, they are odd numbers because it's a quirk of mine):

The television alarm turns on the news at 4:49 AM.
I groan at having to get up to get ready for school while turning down the volume of the t.v
Brush teeth and hair.
Out the door to walk the dog.
The phone alarm goes off
Shower time.
Make coffee, feed the dog, pack lunch and wash any dishes that were left in the sink by those who were up later than I.
Press the coffee and sit down.
Tucker demands I play with him.
Back to sitting and sipping cold coffee.
Back to sitting and sipping hot coffee.
Let Tucker in the room with sleeping daughter
Out the door to school.
School.
Head home.
Sit on floor with Tucker while he goes nuts that I am home even though someone has been with him all day. Silly pup.
Change out of school clothes.
Play with Tucker.
Wash dishes left in sink during the day.
Relax for a few minutes.
Cook supper.
Clean up after supper.
Take Tucker for his evening walk.
Watch a little tv.
Go to bed- 9:30 at the latest.

How exciting is that?! Exactly. I much prefer my weekend schedule which goes something like this:

Wake up at the usual time and doze right back off after assuring Tucker that it is the weekend.
Get up and wash face/brush teeth.
Take Tucker for a long, leisurely walk, maybe even take the camera, maybe not.
Go to the grocery store, or not.
Make coffee and savor one or two cups while sitting on the deck or in the house.
Put some food out for the birds and squirrels.
Clean the house.
Enjoy the rest of my day doing whatever I want to do--garden, binge watch something on Netflix, read, write...
Use the bathroom anytime I need to (teachers will understand this one)
Go to bed whenever I want.

And that's why I live for the weekends during the school year. Oh, and right now, because it's SPRING BREAK, BABY!

  1. I hope you're enjoying every minute of spring break. I know I used to savor every minute of vacation days from work. But I am also a structured, routine kind of person and it's nice knowing what's gonna be on for the day.

  3. We all do better if we have some kind of routine, children need a routine and although many will say that adults or teenagers don't need a routine they would be wrong a routine can make such a difference to a person's life.

    1. Perhaps. But I do better if my routine isn't so dang rigid. I need room for movement. And a lot less conformity. :)

  5. Vacations away from home are for breaking routines. Of course one needs the extra money to do that.

  6. Ooh, I remember that thing re using the loo when you need to! Only a teacher would understand! I took a break from teaching for 2 years, and the biggest difference was that I could make coffee whenever I felt like it!!!!!
Now retired from teaching, loving it!
I must get back to blogger, I miss you guys!
