It's the People Hodgepodge

Summer will be over soon and I am past being ready. We are finally seeing consistent 80-degree weather forecasts. I hope they don't last long and we can go right into some 60 degree days and then right on time into winter, who skipped us last season. Can y'all tell I'm over all this heat? I hope I don't have to take a trip just to enjoy fall or winter this year but I will. I'm tired of missing out on my two favorite seasons!

We missed you last week, Joyce, but we certainly understand! And we're so glad you're back! Even if you did ask THAT question this week. ;)

1. What's changed in your life, home, or community since your last birthday? THIS:

She's getting really good at fighting naps.
2. September is Classical Music Month. Do you like/listen to classical music? YES! If so what's a favorite piece and/or who is a favorite composer? This is nearly impossible to narrow down. I love so many pieces and so many composers. Except Bach. I don't love Bach. I think most of this has to do with my dislike of the organ. It's the sound. I just don't dig it. I can get lost in classical music and go somewhere stress-free. There is no other place like the place I go when I get caught up in a classical piece. My classical playlist on Spotify is lengthy. Here's David Garrett playing a Beethoven piece.

3. Besides The Bible, what's a book that has positively changed your life, relationships, career, or perspective? I can't think of any book that has had this effect on me more than the people I've met. How so? Books tend to enlighten me (depending on the book) but people make more of a difference. There are some  people who inspire me to at least try to be a better, more positive person. At the same time, there are those who also inspire me to be who I am and stick up for what I believe.

4. I read (here) these ten hobbies will make you smarter...play a musical instrument, read voraciously, meditate regularly, work out your brain (puzzles, sudoku, board games, etc), exercise often, learn a new language, write your feelings down (blog, journal, just write), travel to new places, cook different kinds of meals, participate in sports actively

Are any on this list your current hobbies? Well, that explains why I'm lacking in the smarts area. :) I do write in a daily journal but not always about my feelings. Which hobby on the list would you be most inclined to try? I'm sticking with the journal since I never stick to any of the others that I've tried- playing a musical instrument, workout my brain, exercise often, learn a new language...and my meals are usually southern comfort. I have no stick-to-it-tive-ness.

5. What sports traditions does your family have? If planting ourselves in front of the television on Saturdays and Sundays count, that's our tradition! LOL My parents are lovers of football and so am I. Two of the lovelies love it too as do their BFs/husband. Yes, we watch on Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve.

6. In a few words, weigh in on the current football/National Anthem brouhaha. Keep it family friendly please. I believe Kaepernick has a valid point and I support his peaceful protest. I do like it better now that he is on one knee instead of sitting down and I like the players who stood but did so with their fists raised. Perhaps if players take a knee or stand with their fists raised, people will shut-up about them sitting down and focus on the issue behind the protest. If I make it to an event this year, I'll stand. But this middle-aged white woman will raise her fist in support of the issue. I will NEVER understand hating or treating others differently based on the color of their skin. NEVER. I totally get where she's coming from (please realize she is generalizing):

White people: “Black people should protest peacefully!”
*Black person sits quietly during national anthem*
White people: “No not like that.”

7. Where do you have loads of patience, and where do you most lack patience? I lack patience most when I'm tired and when I am frustrated from waiting forEVER for people to do what they said they were going to do.

8. Insert your own random thought here. I have the most wonderful friends, both in person and in the world of blogging! Y'all make my life so much better than it would be without you!

If y'all have a minute and haven't already seen these, please check out my posts supporting a couple of teacher friends HERE and HERE. I know they'd love your support. There will be another post on Monday. :)

Have a great rest of the week, y'all!

    1. You're so right about that. I was just thinking this morning about how in the world we're going to progress after this election. It's going to be interesting. And scary. Everyone just seems so angry. I have had a happy year! She's a true blessing to our family. It's better than everyone said it would be and they said it would be the BEST! :) Thanks, Joyce!

  2. I bet I'd like your playlist. Baby M is just the sweetest. Does she ever take a bad pic? Cute! I agree about trading people differently, whether it's about race or financial status or anything. Who do we think we are. And when did we ever get the right to think we're better than someone else. Enjoyed your Hodgepodge Pam. Have a great week.

    1. She does. I don't post those. LOL I know. I just don't get it. But, I'm glad I don't. I am so grateful not to one of those thinkers. I'm grateful the lovelies aren't like that either. And DoodleBug, she'd sit right down with him. She's way more activist oriented than the rest of us. You have a good one too! Hang in there. You'll be back 100% before you know it!

  3. Awww...your baby is so cute! I enjoyed reading your hodgepodge and the Disney post. That is really dedication to all things Disney! I worked at WWD during college breaks, it was a fabulous place for a young college girl to work. Have a great week.
    Cheers!

    1. Thank you! We think so, too. :) She truly is a Disney fanatic. And one of the best teachers I've ever known. My first job was at Carowinds. Not quite Disney, ha!, but still a fun job! Thanks!

  4. That's sweetie pie is the best change ever!!! I'm not into football but will watch if everyone is watching and it is on at Thanksgiving. If it is just Mark I don't watch. He hates talking during the game.

    1. Isn't she? Reni and I took her with us to the big sale this afternoon, in the torrential rains. She did great! And we got 2 strollers, a walker, a pack and play, some random 'stuff', and a carrier all for $137!

  7. Hey blogging is great hobby and you have stuck to that one.
I enjoy all types of music. The classics are great for background in movies or cartoons.

  9. Your grand baby is growing and getting cuter by the day :)
Our youngest son and his wife are true, blue football fans. It's what they do on the weekends.
Hoping we both get some cooler, more fall-like weather soon...
Enjoy the rest of your week,

    1. I just have to agree with you on that. LOL I have loved football since I was a wee girl. It's so much fun. And, if you need to vent, you get a lot of it out yelling at the tv. :) Me too on the weather. It's just been too hot this summer. Thanks! You too!

    1. A lot of people feel that way. I can't stand opera but I love classical when it's instrumental. Opera makes me cringe. LOL
