Flying a Dad Flag on the Hodgepodge

Whatever that means. My clever brain is not working today. Not that it usually is but it's more MIA today than usual. Thus, the ridiculous title of today's Hodgepodge post. Anyway...

I can't wait to see your titles and content this week! If you haven't joined in before, today is a good day to give it a go!

From this Side of the Pond

1. The Hodgepodge lands on June 14th this week, Flag Day in the US of A. Do you fly your country's flag at home? No. Sometimes, often, or every single day? Only on certain holidays. Come to think of it, mostly only on July 4th. Have you ever visited the city of Brotherly Love (Philadelphia)? No. Did you make a point of seeing The Betsy Ross House? Since I've never been, no. Have you ever made a trip to Baltimore? Yes. If so, was Fort McHenry on your itinerary? No. I went with my dad's mother when I was a kid and we just went to visit her sister. (where Francis Scott Key was inspired to write The Star Spangled Banner)

2. Red flag or white flag? Which have you encountered most recently? Red flag. Explain.I'll just leave this right here:

3. Are you a stay in the car listen to the end of a song kind of person? Yes. What kind of person is that? I believe we're called, OCD.

4. What are some of the traits or qualities you think a good dad possesses? Honest, dependable, open-minded, patient, loving, kind...   In other words, what makes a good dad? A good dad is available, actively involved, kind hearted, and loving. He accepts his children for what and who they are without judgment. You can depend on a good dad to do what he says he will do and you know he's got your back. He has a sense of humor and puts family first (meaning his wife and kiddos). And I think a good dad is compassionate, a feminist, does not see color... What's an expression you associate with your father? I can't think of an expression from Dad that has followed me throughout the years. I have TONS of stories and his humor was (and still is) hilarious but an expression... In the last 5 years or so he does keep reminding me of two things: When I complain about aging he says, "It's better than the alternative" and when I complain about the state of anything he says, "Just remember, God is in control."

5. What's one rule you always disagreed with while growing up? Being a rebel, I pretty much disagreed with all of them, Ha! I wouldn't say I disagreed with the rule of doing it right the first time so that we wouldn't have to do it over and over until we did. And trust me, my parents would call you back until the job was done to their satisfaction. Is that rule somehow still part of your adult life? Yes. I like to do things right the first time so I don't have to redo it or deal with it later. Is that a good or bad thing? It's a good thing for the OCD part of me. Not so much for the lazy part of me. The lazy part just wants to dump everything everywhere and forget about it. The OCD part of me is like NOPE.

6. Insert your own random thought here. When I see this guy interact with Baby M, I know she has a good dad (not that her mom would have chosen someone who isn't...):

Have a great rest of the week, y'all!

    1. Don't you scratch your head when other people don't see those things? It's right there in front of their faces and it's RED. Hello! LOL Thanks!

  6. I love the OCD thing : ) I can go crazy over some things too, while letting others pile up around me without a problem. I look forward to seeing my son-in-law with his son. Pretty sure all men when they hear they're having a son immediately begin planning their offspring's future in professional sports : )

  10. Enjoyed reading your answers to Joyce's questions this week. My children were never allowed to eat in my car and only drink water. Actually we still don't eat in our cars!

    1. Thank you! I was a slacker compared with my parents but I thought they were really strict. We eat in the car but I pack the food and make sure it's nothing that will make a mess. Which means they don't like the snacks so, they don't eat in the car. LOL Have a good time with your dad in Florida!
