Are You Kidding Me with These Toys?

Is there no rest for the weary? Is there no such thing as a preassembled toy? Give me a break.

So, do Y'all remember the kitchen set I put together on Sunday? Well, I purchased these Melissa and Doug Jumbo Blocks for Bug and Baby R and they arrived Tuesday.

BTW Melissa and Doug, Y'all aren't fooling anybody with your toy selection. Some of us had the toys you sell when we were kids so we know you're only able to charge ridiculous prices because you're bringing back what worked back then and did not need to be changed. Ok, and maybe Y'all are leaving out the lead but still it's not cool to make people believe your toys are original.
I thought the box looked small and when I opened it and saw the box above, I was so disappointed. The thought they needed to be assembled never. entered. my. mind.

I'm not sure whether I simply wasn't thinking or I was blocking the thought of having to assemble another toy after the kitchen set but it had to be one of those because I am not a stupid person. At least I didn't think I was.

Once the box was opened, two of these were inside.

Damnation. The things had to be put together. Connected. Joined. Pieced together. Assembled.

So I sat there and assembled these dang blasted blocks and then I built this:

Impressive, I know. Meanwhile, all Bug enjoys doing is knocking down my towers and trying to get her baby doll to have a seat.

And when they're in the box, she loves getting in there with them. With said baby doll, of course. Oh, the doll isn't making a political statement. We have doll representatives of all races this one just happens to be Bug's favorite.

Also meanwhile, this guy just sat back and laughed.

While this one did everything in his power to avoid looking at the camera.

What a week.

Let's hear your toy assembly stories!

  1. Oh my! I would not have liked to have to assemble those. Sometimes I think kids are happier with the box than with the toy. lol

I remember our first Christmas with the girls. They were 2 and 5 and we bought the 5 year old a bunch of Barbie stuff (that was always her favorite thing). I had to work that day, so we got up early and had Christmas before I went to work. Then hubby got the pleasure of putting all the Barbie stuff together. ha I was originally upset about having to work our first Christmas, but then I decided it really wasn't such a bad thing. lol

    1. Don't be too amazed. I mean, I did forget to read whether or not assembly was required. LOL Isn't he a cutie pie? He has dimples all over his sweet face. We do have fun but I know it would be even better if you lived close to us! :)

  5. The young love toys and the boxes the toys often come in at times more then the toys itself

    1. So true! She's really enjoying throwing the blocks out of the box and sitting in there with her doll. I'm just glad she's having fun. :)

  6. Well look how large the box would have to be if they came assembled! You’d need a truck to get it home. Fortunately the extra humongous box would be light but a box that size would still need 2 people to carry....so you probably would not have purchased it. On the other hand, think of the fun she and her baby would have with that size box! :)

    1. Large and fun! I could have gotten in it with her! We used to love refrigerator boxes when the girls were growing up so I think a large box would have been great. Plus, I ordered them online so no hauling for me. LOL But a huge box is always welcome here. :)

  7. I think knocking down towers of blocks or stacked cups is a natural activity for toddlers. What I like to see is if they eventually get interested in building their own tower. I've found the knocking down fun does not always lead to building fun.
I found this one construction type toy that I thought would be a big hit. Gave it as a gift Christmas before last. The company and product are called Makedo. It is a simple system to fasten cardboard together. You can create almost anything as long as it is cardboard. Turned out about the only time my grandkids played with it was when I was playing with them. Was not a big hit.

    1. I agree. Sometimes she can barely wait for me to stack more than 2 blocks before she's knocking it over and laughing hysterically. She likes building with small blocks but we shall have to wait to see what she does, if anything, with the big ones. You just never know what they'll like. I've purchased things that I thought would be big fun and ended up being the only one playing with it. Ha!

  9. First of all, your family is beautiful! Secondly, setting aside the pain of assembly, I think this is a toy that inspires creativity. Eventually this little gal will build enclosures for herself, dolly, and grandma's doggy. She'll imagine herself in a castle, or barn, or store. She'll BE a builder instead of a delicate damsel waiting for a MAN to do it for her! I love your blog and your sense of humor!

    1. Thank you! We are having a blast with them now just throwing them out of the big box followed by climbing into the big box. LOL She still LOVES knocking down the towers and even helps build them up sometimes. Other times you can't get 2 blocks up before she's knocking them over and laughing hysterically which is so worth everything! Amen to not waiting for a MAN to do anything for her. Thank you for you lovely comment!
