10 Things About Me and You

One of my favorite sites, The Secret is in the Sauce, put it's members in assigned groups this week and, as a part of our introductions to each other, we were asked to tell a fun fact about ourselves.  I could not think of a single thing to say so I put the question out there to my daughters...their responses led to my own responses of, "Oh Yeah!" and "Um, maybe we should keep THAT one to ourselves." There was also a bit of laughing and, of course, a blog post.  So plain, funny and somewhat embarrassing--here they are:
1. You hate purple. (It's true, I really do hate the color purple...not the book/movie/play but the actual color).

2. Your car runs on bio-diesel. (True. Hubby started making bio-diesel fuel for in 2005 and bought everyone old (1980s) Mercedes' to drive. He gets used vegetable oil from restaurants in the area and mixes the fuel in his shop).

3.  You taught us how to squeeze mashed potatoes and Jello through our teeth.  (Oh Crap. This is true. My brother, Tony, and I used to do this when we were kids.  I don't know WHAT possessed me to show that trick to my own children).

4.  You are obsessed with Sting and John Mellencamp. (True again.  And I have been for years and years and years).

5.  You have 2 Aunt Bettys.  (Yes I do.  Both my parents have one sister each and they are both named Betty).

6.  You LOVE classical music.  (True.  I especially love to hear the cello---I think it makes the most beautiful sound in the world--other than children laughing, that is).

7.  Your three brothers are adopted. (True again.  My parents decided to adopt when I was younger and, when they went to visit a boy who was up for adoption, they not only adopted him but his two biological brothers as well.  We became a family of 6 in one day! It was awesome! It still is).

8.  All four of us were born at a birthing center with a midwife.  (True.  We traveled to a birthing center and used a midwife to deliver each of our daughters with ONE exception---daughter R was too quick so we had to stop off at a hospital emergency room with hardly a second to spare!  Her hair stuck straight up for the first few months of life and our pediatrician--one of the most wonderful men in the world-- used to say, "It's no wonder, the hair-raising way she was brought into the world.").

9. You have a MAJOR sweet tooth. (It's true and it is partly to blame for the excess weight I carry around today).

10.  You are a fanatic about Christmas. (Oh yes indeed! I keep all the Christmas related figurines and music boxes on display in the 'Santa cabinet'--excluding the 21 Nativities that live in their cabinet and the things that won't fit in one of the cabinets that stay out on the bookshelves--[this is starting to make me sound crazy], I watch Christmas movies in the summer, I start listening to Christmas music...oh, wait, I never stop, AND they're lucky I don't keep the Christmas trees out year round!).

Now I would LOVE to learn 10 things about all of you!

  3. Julie, are you sure we're not related? I could very easily have included 4, 5, 6, and 7--except that I am very competitive in everything. And #1 but change bats to snakes. And our oldest daughter has #2 in common with you--well, about the shots, it's usually me holding her hand!
You should add one more: completed a 5K!

  6. Love the hair-raising tale! My middle daughter's hair stood straight up until she was about 1 year old. It was during the heyday of Mr. T, so we called her Mr. T quite often.

I don't care much for purple either. :o)
