Summer Hodge Podge

Yes, I know it isn't summer. But tell that to Mother Nature. It's been in the upper 70s here for several days and we won't be getting a cool down until the end of the week. It. Is. JANUARY. UGH. I hate this.

But I love me some Hodge Podge! And so will you! All you have to do is click on that button and join in the fun!

1. Lake Superior University has once again published a list of words/phrases they think should be banished from the Queen's English...here's the list for 2013-

fiscal cliff, kick the can down the road, double down, job creators/creation, passion/passionate, yolo (an acronym for you only live once), spoiler alert, bucket list, trending, superfood, boneless wings, and guru
Which of these words/phrases would you most like to see banished from everyday speech and why. Go here to read more about how the words were chosen.

Bucket list or superfood. I'm just sick of hearing those two- when I do, I stop reading/listening.
2.  When was the last time you rode a train?  Where did you go? Ok, I wrote a post here about my aversion to trains. The last time I rode one was the one in that post. I was 5 and the train was at Tweetsie railroad. I never rode another one. And I don't plan on changing that.

3. Bagels-yay or nay?  Favorite 'flavor'?  Favorite topping? YAY!YAY!YAY! Hell to the Y!E!S! LOVE me some bagels. I like plain ones the best but they have these called frazzles at Bagel Nation that are TO.DIE.FOR. I'm not even kidding. Topping? Just some butter please. Or the occasional cream cheese. A bagel can stand on its own.

4.  'Tis the season of awards shows...if you could star in a movie already made which one would you choose?  I've never had any aspirations to be in a movie at all. Not even in my imagination. However, I wouldn't mind being a stand-in in a few love scenes of some movies.

5. The move towards single gender classrooms has been making the news in recent months....what say you?  Do you think kids perform better if seperated by gender and are taught differently or is that discrimination?  If you're a parent, is this something you'd support in regard to your own children? It wouldn't have bothered me one way or the other as far as single gender goes. I was more opposed to putting students of all different learning levels in the same classroom. I still don't like it. What ends up happening is that the above average kids get all the attention while the average and below average ones stay where they are or become worse. It's not fair. Personally, if they had taken the boys out of the lovelies' classrooms, it would have suited me just fine. And it would have kept Deanie's head more in her studies. LOL

6. What's your favorite thing about staying in a hotel? Nothing. I hate staying in hotels.

7. Do you have a 'word' for 2013?  What's the story behind your choice? Yes. It's 'Do'. And the post about it is right here.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.Birdie's car was stolen yesterday. It was right there at her apartment and some asshole jerk loser thief just came right there and took it. It wasn't a new car. The husband isn't a new car person and, to be honest, neither am I. I mean, I drive a 1987 Mercedes and I ADORE it. Anyway, Birdie's car is...was...a 1990something Honda civic with a hatchback (I'm not a car person so this is as good as it gets y'all). Birdie is mostly upset because her athletic training kit was in there. I'm upset because, as a friend at work put it, "Why can't people just leave other people's $!&# alone?" And because they messed with my kid. I believe that karma will take a big bite out of the thief's rear. I just wish I could be present to witness it.

That's it for me! What's your Hodge Podge like today?

  2. I remember riding the train at Tweetsie-planned on taking grandson last summer but never got around to it. Hopefully the thief will be caught and justice be done.

  3. Sorry to hear about the stolen car-how frustrating!
Thanks for sharing your answers (NOTHING in hotels? Not even the made beds???)
I like your word choice for the year-this year, I'm DOing something too! Hopefully, several somethings!
And also, your "welcome" paragraph is really cute!
    Have a great day! =)

  4. Oh that's awful! It does make you lose a teeny bit of faith in the human race when you're robbed. Plus, what a hassle to deal with the insurance and replacement rigmarole. I'm sorry this happened!

  5. I wouldn't mind being in a few love scenes on movie sets myself, haha!

  6. Oh, I know what you are feeling right now! My daughters first car was stolen (in Canada)a few years ago too. It was so upsetting!! But in the end they found it again. The thief had just driven it till the gas was gone and left it stranded somewhere. I hope they find your daughters too.
    ((Hugs))

  7. I always enjoy reading your answers :) You have such a way with words.

Yes, it HAS felt just like summer, but I've enjoyed it. It hasn't been hot enough to make me sweat :)

So sorry about your daughter's car! Oh how I hate liars and thieves.

  8. Oh, how awful that your daughter's car was stolen! I am so sorry to hear that! Hopefully, they'll be able to recover it soon and bring the thief to justice.

  9. I am wondering why some of these words are leaving. (I know you left a link. I'm too lazy to look) Do they just disappear or are they put on a back shelf somewhere labeled with stern consequences if/when they are used again?

I have ridden theme park trains, no commercial ones.

Bagels are edible but I prefer the sinful deliciousness of doughnuts.

I know no movie I would like to star in...my life is a sitcom anyway.

Gender classes...sometimes the forbidden holds more allure.

    Like you, I prefer home.

Word for 2013 would be laugh.

So sorry about Birdie's car. Even thieves are downsizing! Makes you really worry.

  10. Love scenes, interesting! Who is with you :) I'm thinking John Travolta, Bradley Cooper or maybe George Clooney.

  11. I hope Birdie gets her car back. What is this world coming to when you can't keep your stuff safe.

  12. being that I live in suburb I ride commuter trains quite often - the price of parking in the city is ridiculous.
Do youtube clips count as movies? I have written and directed a few.
Car thief - that is upsetting. Hoping the insurance company will work well with them.

  13. Jill- Thanks. Right? I really get ticked when someone messes with them. And taking her car is messing with her.

Tammy- That thing scared me so bad it ruined trains for me for life! I hope they catch him too or that I at least get to witness karma getting him.

Josanne- Thanks. It really is frustrating. Nope, not even made beds. As a matter of fact, whenever we have had to stay in hotels, I always tell the maid service to just leave the beds until after we leave. I like giving them a break even if it is just one room. I’m getting my DO on too. LOL Thanks!

Joyce- It’s crazy. I really don’t like it that they took it right from where she lives. Scary. No insurance replacement. Her dad only carries collision on everyone’s car but mine. None of us drives a new car. We’ve just always preferred the older ones that the husband can make fuel for. Thanks- me too!

Jocelyn- Right? Some of them are just so…inviting. LOL

Betty- It’s crazy. I hate that
this happened to her. There’s been no word so far. I’m thinking they’ve sold it for parts or painted and sold it by now.

Kathy- Thank you! It’s been hot enough to make me sweat for three days. I want winter! Thanks- I hate it happened to her. I’m not a fan of liars and thieves either.

April- Thanks. It was terrible. I really don’t like that it happened so close to her apartment. I hope so too- soon!

Gail- I didn’t click the link either. So I have no idea. LOL Doughnuts- I don’t even want to tell you how many I used to be able to eat in one sitting. ONE. SITTING. Our life is usually a sitcom too. Until the car got stolen. Thieves downsizing…LOL

Debby- Haha! Nope. More like Richard Gere or Colin Firth or Hugh Grant or….the list goes on and on and on!

Retired- Thank you. I know. It’s nuts.

Bill- Sure, youtube clips can count. No insurance other than collision. The car is like a 1991 or something and the husband hates insurance companies. But the boyfriend’s dad is giving her their old caddy. Should be interesting. LOL

  14. I agree 110% with your answer to #5. I hope your daughter gets her car and gear back.

  15. I've never had a desire to be famous, either.

So to hear about the car being stolen! That just plain sucks.
