A Garden Post

In the midst of wedding planning and getting through the last week of school (2 full days, 2 half days left---Hallelujah!) a few things have been happening in the garden----

We have grapes this year---

I need recipes for homemade wine.

Even if I just get a little bit.

There are blueberries too!

Not too many, but it's a start!

The tomatoes have gone mad!

I have plans for them---

And, Julie, I need your recipe again. I've lost it but it worked last year and I want to do it again! See my little whirly-twirly thingys? I got those at the dollar store in the hopes that little critters would find them unappealing and stay out of the garden areas.

These flowers are looking good---

And so are the squash and eggplant this year! So far anyway...

Stay tuned for the fenced in garden area and my flower bed!

So, how are your gardens growing?

  1. Beautiful! With the loooong winter this year, our garden got a later start. The strawberries are just not ripening. Tomatoes don't even have flowers yet. But, what we've planted is doing well.
I love the looks of a pretty, maintained garden.

Yay for the last week of school!!! I can't wait.

  3. WOW, you guys are so far ahead of us. Our grape vines are still brown and just starting to bud. My tomatoes are itty bitty plants still. Our lilacs are just starting to smell wonderful and blueberries haven't even flowered yet. And today our top temp was just a bit above 50*.
What recipe do you need? The one for spaghetti sauce, stewed tomatoes ... I can't remember.
Have a great week Pam. Daycare starts tomorrow for me. I am so ready to be able to stay home and have some kids that love me.
    Blessings!!

  4. LOVE your garden. We USED to grow veggies way back when we lived in NOLA with a yard full of sunshine. The lot we live on now is pretty darn shady!
My Grampa grew grapes and made wine. He used to store it in the basement in NOLA. Once the Sunday School head was visiting and all of a sudden the hot NOLA temps caused the corks to pop out of the wine bottles, POP, POP, POP! My Dad says my Gramma wanted to drop through the floor. Hard to explain to a teetotalling Church goer what was happening in the basement! Hope you get some good recipes and tight corks! xoxox

  5. coop- Thanks! What long winter? We barely had one at all. LOL Happy growing!

Kim- Thanks! I am using cedar mulch this year. It seems to take care of a lot of insect issues. I just have to make it to Friday!

Julie- We are a little warmer down here...LOL We've been in the mid 80s for the last month. UGH. But the plants do love it. Yes- spaghetti sauce and tomatoes and I promise to print them off and save them this year! That sauce was so fantastic that we ate every bit of it and had none for the winter. :) Thanks so much!

Sush- Thanks! That is one of the funniest things I've ever heard! Your poor Gramma! I'll remember that! :)

  6. I figured that you would be ahead of us, but goodness, you're miles and miles ahead of us. Of course, with this crazy weather we've been having, I guess I shouldn't be so surprised. I sure hope that some day I'll be able to share similar pictures of our garden.

  7. Kathy- Winter keeps skipping us which I hate except that it makes for a really long growing season. Can't wait to see how your garden grows! :)
