Sunrise, Sunset, Hodgepodge

Yes, it's Wednesday. But I don't get excited until Friday. EXCEPT for the Hodgepodge! I always get excited about that! And, Joyce, I can't wait to see pictures of the shower! Go crazy and put up tons! We are all waiting!

I hope all our friends who have had sever weather are safe and sound. I'm writing this on Tuesday and the storms are headed our way. Usually, they dissipate before getting to us due to our close proximity to the ocean. But you never know.

Anyway, on to the Hodgepodge.

1. What's your favorite time of day? Why? The very early morning up until and including sunrise. Seconded only by sunset. Unless it's winter and then I really enjoy the night sky. And then any night that there's a full moon. But let's just go with the first thing I said. Ha! I prefer the early morning because of the quiet and the promise of a new day that it brings. The sunset because they are always so beautiful. The moonlit nights because of the sweet memories they stir and because they inspire poetry within me.

2. Waffle iron, toaster, coffee maker, mixer, blender...which small appliance would you say most needs replacing in your house? None. They're all good.

3. It's National Grouch Day (October 15)...what's something that makes you feel grouchy? Pretty sure that day was named for ME. Ha!

4. Ever been to Canada? Is that a country you'd like to visit? According to Trip Advisor, the top ten best destinations in Canada are-Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City, Victoria, Calgary, Niagara on the Lake, Niagara Falls, Whistler, and Halifax. Which city would you most like to see? I have been to Canada. I attended a conference in Toronto while in grad school, eons ago. I would love to check out Vancouver.

5. What was your favorite food (or one of your favorites) when you were a child? Is that still a favorite? Anything my grandmother cooked. As soon as I think it was her fried chicken, I think it was her chicken pot pie. As soon as I think chicken pot pie, I think it was her chicken and dumplings. As soon as I think chicken and dumplings, I think it was her vegetable beef soup. And so on and so on and so on. And yes, they would all still be my favorites were she alive today.

6. Do you cry easily? In real life, no. I hate for people to see me cry and to think that they have that kind of control over me. Plus, I see crying, in myself, as a sign of weakness so I don't do it much. In others, it doesn't bother me. I do not like to appear vulnerable to anyone, ever. However, when sentimentality is involved. Then, yes.

7. Have you started your (gasp!) Christmas shopping? If so when, and how much? If not, when will you even begin thinking about it? Nope. But I did buy myself a mini vacay to the NC mountains starting December 26. Just the dog and I. Can. Not. Wait.

8.  Insert your own random thought here. It's birthday week here. Birdie turned 26 yesterday. 26. Twenty. Six. Ouch. I made a JibJab video in honor of this birthday. Y'all can view it on yesterday's post.

Election day is coming up. There is NO ONE for whom to vote. Guess I'll have to write my own name in for every office. I'm joking. Sort of. I don't think I would do any worse than the powers that be.

Have a great rest of the week, y'all!

  1. Voting has become a depressing act. My daughter (the teacher in SC) said they had to spend 40 minutes in the hall yesterday in tornado mode. It was a watch and became a warning. It was a long morning as you might imagine. Happy birthday to your daughter! I will try to go back and check out your jibjab. Have a great day!

    1. It certainly has. It was pretty bad in the upstate. Down here at the coast, things usually peter out before arrival. Of course, that does not stop the weather people from getting all excited. Ha! Our students are antsy during a tornado drill. I imagine 40 minutes was sheer torture. For the teachers. LOL

  2. Crying is not a sign of weakness! It's a sign of caring, and "feeling"…. so don't apologize for crying - or try to deny it. I put up a JibJab for my hubby's birthday a few weeks ago. I love those videos!! Happy birthday to all!

  6. Okay, we're all gonna come crash your solitude at the cabin in NC. LOL Does sound absolutely wonderful - and of course the dog needs to be there. It wouldn't be much of a vacation without him!

I hadn't even thought of a chicken pot pie in YEARS. I LOVED THAT. Just the thought of that made me hungry for that amazing taste and flaky crust.

  7. How is it that grandma's cooking is always the best? And ooh, I love chicken pot pie, especially when it is gray and gloomy outside and I have a cold... instant comfort food, I'm telling you! Kinda jealous about your vacay in the NC cabin! Sounds amazing... have a great day and don't be afraid to shed a tear, it's good for the soul and makes people feel close to you!

    1. It is nice up there. I was born and raised in NC. Didn't move to SC until just before college. I love both states, I'm just used to being down here. I think it's time for a move though. :)

  11. I'm an early morning person too, but each evening I love watching the sunset. I have a great view out my window and they just bless me. We have chicken pot pie a lot at our house and we clean it up!!
Voting for the lesser of two evils seems to be the way of elections these days. But I still get out and vote.
Happy Birthday to your daughter. Those jib jabs are funny.

    1. I love sunrises and sunsets. Nobody paints like God, eh? :) We love chicken pot pie here too but I really wish I could get a recipe for the one my grandmother made. There isn't a lesser of two evils down here. Seriously, there is NO ONE for whom to vote. No. One. Thanks for the birthday wish! :)
