Rockers, Porches, and Mother's Day

I asked for a rocker for the front porch (now that it's cleaned off and I can enjoy it once agan) for Mother's Day and, because they are the best daughters EVER, I got one from the lovelies.

I have always loved those rockers on the porches at Cracker Barrel. The lovelies got me this one:

And then, hind sight kicked in. WTH was I thinking????

I live in the low-country and the low-country salute involves swatting yourself all over and looking like a  possesed ape due to the overabundance of noseeums. That's right, noseeums. These are the tiniest of the tiniest little gnats that swarm and bite with the vorasity of a starving tiger.

And I want to sit on the front porch? Luckily, DoodleBug figured out the solution and scurried off to Wally World to purchase some citronella candles. Bugs problem solve.

But then there's the whole neighbor situation. On one side I have the sweetest neighbors EVER- shout out to Tina and Claud! But, on the other side are two people who drink with that same enthusiasm as the gnats bite. And, when they get going, they like to hurl insults in their loudest voices possile and then walk around and invade the neighboring territories. It's not pretty. You can't understand them but that's because of the drunken slurred speech not due to a lack of volume that is loud enough to drown out a five fire engine siren. On top of these, there are the five college girls who moved in across the street. We have donned them, Satan's Sisters. On either side of Satan's sisters are two familes who are wonderful- Shout out to Ann and Andy and their boys and to Sherrill and Monta. But no one would know that because everyone tends to stay inside because of these two not-fun-to-live-beside/across from neighbors.

And I wanted to sit on the front porch? Well, the soltion to this problem has yet to be solved. But I'm working on it. I'm going to get me a board like Shelton uses in THE BIG BANG THEROY and see if there are any math solutions. LOL

I have such enjoyable visions of having lemonade and cookies on the porch for neighbors passing by while walking themselves and/or their dogs who might enjoy stoppng and chatting. Of course, they'll have to sit on the steps or stand, but still... One day soon, I shall have more rockers and invite to sit a spell. And talk. And get to know one another.

Doesn't that sound great?

Part 2 of my Mother's Day gift is coming. Stay tuned.

  1. I am so glad you got your rocking chair! Not to mention the candles! I don't know what you can do about the neighbors though,
    Headphones with good tunes?
It sounds like you had a nice day, so glad you got your porch back. :) Have a great week Pam.

    1. It is so nice! We've had strong breezes in the evenings and it's been cool and I don't even want to go back in the house. The neighbors? Well, I've got a solution in today's post. Chainsaw on a stick. LOL Hope all is well out there!

  2. Oh.My. Neighbor problems aren't fun at all. Just sit in your chair, rock, and let the finger fly every now & then! :)

    1. Letting the finger fly doesn't seem to work. However, my chainsaw on a stick should do the trick. LOL

    1. Oh, I've been out there. And they haven't been in the front yard so far. But, now that I have my chainsaw on a stick, I'm not as concerned. LOL

  4. Yay!!!! So happy you got the rocker. I love to sit out on our front step with my morning coffee. Or just to sit and listen to quiet for a few minutes a day. It's so mind refreshing. You'll figure it out. You always do!! Love ya!

    1. Barb, You HAVE to come up and sit with me. I'll buy you a chair of your own. And you can watch me run the neighbors off with my new chainsaw on a stick! It will be a total BLAST!

  5. I like the idea of sitting outside on a rocker watching the world go by but in truth I don't have that much time to do so which sucks and right now it is getting cold out as well.

    1. It really is nice even though I only get about 30 minutes right now because of the time, the bugs and hitting it just right so the bugs don't eat me alive! LOL

  6. Yes, that does sound great! I might be able to hear my neighbors if they really shout at one another, and once a year there's a loud rock fest about a half mile away as the crow flies (really loud all night), but that's it. When your obnoxious neighbors get going, you can come up here and sit on my front porch with me...but you should probably bring along your new rocker. LOL I'm still working on getting decent seating there. Yea to the Lovelies for getting you your much-longed-for rocker!

    1. The rocker has been great! Though I would love to sit on your porch. Do you think they'd let me count the rocker as a carry-on? LOL

  7. I love the rockers too. My sister-in-law has several on her TN mountain cabin porch. One of my favorite places to sit. Less than perfect neighbors are a trial. I hope you find a way to enjoy your lemonade and rocking chair : )

  8. Nothing better than a rocker (or swing) on the front porch, and neighbors you like! Hope you get it all figured out. A bamboo shade on the bad-neighbor side....screening for the entire porch to solve the bug problem. Two out of three, anyway. Not sure about the SS across the street.
