Summer Heat and the Hodgepodge

Still sitting in the AC all day long down here. Although, we are still hitting the beach before sunrise and the deck has been quite nice until around 10:00. So, not all is horrible weather wise. AND, we've had thunderstorms which has been wonderful. Hey, we're not having forest fires, tornadoes, or other destructive force so I'm not complaining.

Now, it's time for the Hodgepodge!

1. On Saturday July 4th America celebrates her Independence. (If you're not American,  feel free to answer in terms of a national holiday in your own country) What is your favorite thing about the day? Your favorite food on the 4th? Do you fly a flag at your house? Fireworks-yay or nay? Any special plans this year? There were celebrations when I was growing up and here when the lovelies were coming along, but not much anymore. It's too hot around here and I don't like crowds so...I'll stay inside in the AC with Tucker. I won't make anything special like I used to and I am not planning to put up a flag. Fireworks are fun but it's too hot to go outside and watch. I am a summer holiday party pooper. Now, if there were fireworks before the sun comes up and before it gets too hot, then sure! But that's probably not going to happen. LOL

2. What's something you recently got for free? A hard time? OH, you said got, not give. LOL I haven't gotten anything for free. Wait! Does free shipping count? Cause I did get free shipping!

3.  The Statue of Liberty, The Liberty Bell, The Washington Monument, or Mount Rushmore...how many on the list have you seen? What is your favorite historical American monument, and why? I've seen the Washington Monument. I don't like it at all but I do find it rather symbolic. I suppose my favorite is the Lincoln Memorial. I did enjoy seeing that.

4. When it comes to the news are you more ostrich (stick my head in the sand) or hog (they have room to take a whole lot in)? How much attention have you given the recent news reports regarding ISIS and the acts of terror they've perpetrated against those who do not share their beliefs or support their cause? I listen as long as the journalists and anchors are reporting the news but, when they start handing out opinions, I turn them off. I have my own opinions, I do not need to hear theirs.

5. We're talking plain ice cream...vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry? Choose one. It totally depends on my mood.

6. Share a song you love containing the word 'stars' in the lyrics or title? I had to Google this since I couldn't think of one. I used to like this:

7. Describe and/or say goodbye to June with an acrostic. I really suck at this but, here you go:

Jogging daughters

Unwavering heat
Noteworthy events
Extraordinary sunrises

8.  Insert your own random thought here. I may have mentioned that it's been hot this summer. But Lovely 4 and I are still heading out to the beach before sunrise to run/walk and let Tucker run amok. I'll leave you with a video of Tucker and some sunrise photos from this week:

Have a great July 4th celebration in your neck of the woods!

  1. You live near a beach! I think it would be so lovely to take a walk on the beach every day. I understand about the heat. When the temperatures rise, I am an inside girl. The chiggers and Mosquitos, along with the heat are just too much!

    1. We are only 3.1 miles from the beach. It's wonderful until the tourists take over. It's not as bad here as it is on Folly and IOP though. Oh, the heat! It's been miserable. Luckily, the temps are not soaring to the point where we have those heat indexes anymore. Though I know they'll be back. Sigh.

    1. I'm trying not to complain either. But sometimes, when the temps are so high we get a heat index, it's difficult not to complain. So I do. LOL Thanks! Happy 4th to you, too!

  3. Beautiful pictures! I'm with you on the whole heat & crowds thing. I saw some fireworks from FreedomFest on our back porch...I didn't even want to walk down to see them more clearly.

    1. Yeah, the heat and the crowds do NOT go together well at all. It's best that I stay in and not expose others to my reaction to the heat and the crowds. LOL Have a wonderful 4th! Inside. :)

  7. Ahh. Sullivan's Island! I'd recognize that awful looking lighthouse anytime! lol I take our doggies out on the beach early in the morning too. It's the best time of day, and it's before the tourists invade! Stay cool - and enjoy your 4th, inside or out!

    1. I've been seeing tourists out there trying to catch the sunrise. BUT, if we park at 18 1/2 and head to the right, NO TOURISTS! LOL That lighthouse is awful, isn't it? Except I do like it at sunrise.

    1. I saw that! I was thinking about y'all and hoping all was restored. We don't get tornadoes down here, thankfully. I can only imagine how scary it was!

  11. I miss the celebrations that we had years ago on the 4th of July! I love free shipping, only way to shop online. That is a great song choice. Awesome photos and looks like Tucker was having a blast!

    1. I miss them too. It's so much more fun with kids around. Tuck loves the beach! He comes back covered in sand and wet and shakes all over the car and the house and we can't do anything but laugh every time. LOL Enjoy the 4th! Hey, one of these days, you are going to have to go back home from Florida by way of Charleston!

  13. great song pic. I haven't been back in DC for many years but I always enjoyed my visits there. Well OK, once I got all screwed up on directions and kept ending up in Virginia. Probably crossed the Potomac 10 times that afternoon.

    1. Luckily for everyone, I was too young to drive when I visited DC. But I still remember the trip vividly. I loved it! Thanks! Enjoy the 4th!
