A Medley of May

I am trying to change my thought process about the seasons in an effort to embrace each one as I did as a child. It's difficult when I live in an area that sees winter and summer but I can still wear flip-flops in winter because it just doesn't get that cold here. Fall and spring tend to last a day or ten and that's it so I feel cheated every year. Anyway, I was looking for literary quotes about spring and ran across one by Willa Cather and I am wondering how in the world I missed ever reading her books??? Talk about feeling cheated! I immediately purchased three and have my nose in my Kindle for the time being. I am in love with her writing style and her strong female characters. HOW did I miss her all these years? Better late than never, they say.

And now, the Medley!

1.  Ahhh... May Day!!  Happy May!  Did you celebrate this when you were a child by dancing around a Maypole or leaving flowers on someone's porch? I did not. Will you be celebrating a special occasion in May? YES! NashvilleDaughter and DrummerBoy will be #goingtothechapel one week from Saturday to #gethitched and we're all so excited!
(There are so many other things being celebrated today that I
think we need to give them some attention, too!)

2.  National Mother Goose Day was founded in 1987.  Can you name a nursery rhyme that would fit your life as it was in 1987? I could say, 'Old Mother Hubbard' but I only had 2 of the 4 lovlies in 1987. I could go with, Little Girl, Little Girl because I had two girls but I think I'll go with, I See the Moon because I used to quote it to all of the girls when they were little.  If you are a youngster and not yet born in 1987, you may pass, of course, but do you have a favorite nursery rhyme?  HERE is a list of nursery rhymes.

3.  National Chocolate Parfait Day is also honored on this day. Parfait means perfect in French. Tell us about a perfect day, in your mind, and would/could it end with a chocolate parfait? A perfect day in my world is one spent with these two goobers:

And days with them don't end with parfaits but they do often end with ice cream so I'll count that because we all will take ice cream over pudding any day.

4.  National School Principal's Day was founded to celebrate these school administrators who support and guide quality teachers and staff to provide productive learning environments for our children. Did you have a good Principal when you were in school? All I knew of principals were they were men to be afraid of every day. Do you remember his/her name? I do not remember any of the principals I had in elementary, middle, or high school. I just knew I had to toe the line and avoid them at all costs. I don't think principals are commonly like that these days but even when I was teaching I panicked when I had to go see the principal. And I'd known her for 20 years!

5. And perhaps the most important one is Silver Star Service Banner Day which honors the sacrifices of the combat wounded, ill, and dying service members from all branches of the military.  Do you have family members who have served this country in uniform? Yes. Tell us about them, if you will. Most of them were on my mother's side if you want more modern day members but there are plenty on both sides of my family that go back as far as the American Revolution, Civil War, WWI, and WWII. I have a couple cousins and one brother still with us today who served.

6.  It's Hump Day! How is your week going so far? It's the calm before the storm around here. We'll be all in a tizzy by the weekend as it marks the official wedding countdown. I think everyone is ready. NashvilleDaughter is always organized and pays close attention to detail so everything should go off beautifully. Of course, we'll have a great time whether there are kinks or not.

Have a great rest of the week, y'all!
