As we get ready for Christmas we, as a family, try very hard to emphasize the importance of the celebration of the birth of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. This starts at the beginning of the month with an observance of Advent, focusing on the joyful anticipation of his coming. Quite a few years ago I decided to create a countdown chart that would ultimately focus on this true meaning of Christmas. I originally saw this idea on a Christmas card and decided to incorporate it into our celebration.
I started by painting a Christmas tree onto poster board:
Then, on December 2nd, this one:
Okay, so everyone knows that Christmas is wonderful. I love it. It's my favorite holiday. I love the music, the snow, the lights, the traditions, the food, the presents, the love, the family, but especially....THE EGGNOG!!! I am very picky about my eggnog. Seriously. It has to be just so, or I refuse to drink it. I can't have the stuff that they sell in the stores, because it is so thick that it could stop a bathtub drain in it's tracks. I know that there are others out there who feel the same way, and simply refuse to drink it. I actually won't drink it alone, unless I seriously thin it down. But, I am also a bartender and because of this, I present to you, A Southern Christmas. Don't be scared...we're gonna talk about how to make the perfect Christmas Eggnog, but with a vodkaandmotherhood twist.
We have attended our fair share of weddings in our day. We've been to some fun ones and some not so fun ones (this one was BIG FUN!). Sometimes the food is fantastic and sometimes it just isn't (at this wedding, the food was truly fantastic- from what I heard. I only ate a couple of things that were gluten free, but the smells were absolutely divine and the presentation was lovely!).
There was a band that played all night long (featuring the groom's father on guitar) which led to lots of shagging! And by shagging, I mean this:
Although I never saw anyone with quite the same moves out there, I did see nothing but smiles and folks having BIG FUN!
One of the things that made the fun so BIG was ShutterBooth. I had never seen or even heard about them before the wedding. Now, we want to have them at every function we host.
OMG, it was a total blast!
Remember those photo booths at the beach? The ones that you went in to with your friends or boy/girlfriend while taking a break from shagging (the dance people- get your minds out of the gutter) and made those funny faces and the pictures came out in a 2x7 inch strip of 4 photos? Well, that's what ShutterBooth is!
They come to your occasion AND---
They bring accessories!
That's me, BestSonInLawEVER, Hubs, DoodleBug and Breezy!
What fun!
No matter how young or old the guests were, they were in that booth! I imagine some of them remember getting a kiss in a booth like that or just hanging out with friends being silly! That's exactly what happened at the wedding! Kisses and just having fun! AND---
You get to take the pictures home...for free! Not just one, but every single person in the photo gets a copy! So cool!
After the event, ShutterBooth puts the photos up on their website so you can view and download to your computer and/or order prints.Which I did BOTH because, HELLO!, Christmas presents! And blog posts, of course! (Oh, and just so you know, I'm just doing this because I thought it was so freaking awesome, ShutterBooth didn't ask me to or anything like that).
The bride and groom:
Breezy and the groom (BFFs since 6th grade):
Breezy and her mom (that's me!):
Breezy and BestSonInLawEVER:
DoodleBug and the sole reason she is majoring in education to be a kindergarten teacher---her kindergarten teacher!
DoodleBug, Breezy, and me!
Me, BestSonInLawEVER, Hubs, DoodleBug and Breezy:
Can you tell we had a BLAST?!
Seriously, had I known about them before, they would have been at Breezy and BestSonInLawEVER's wedding!
Now, the winner of Cat's book is:
Jessica B over at Jessee's Spot!
Seriously, if y'all are not familiar with Jessica, get over there and check out her blog! She is a RIOT!
This past holiday weekend was not just about Thanksgiving for our family. Nope. It was also about a wedding! Not for one of the lovelies, but for Breezy's BFF and his fiance! I can honestly say that we haven't had this much fun at a wedding since Breezy and BestSonInLawEVER got married. There was so much positivity in the air you couldn't help but feel it!
I think I'll just let the pictures do (most of) the talking:
My lovely Breezy.
My lovely Breezy laughing. At the wedding. That she's participating in.
The view...
Those 2 groomsmen are doing what we call the low-country salute...the gnats were out in full force!
My Breezy.
Yep, that's my Breezy. Still laughing. At the wedding. That she is participating in.
Aw...tagging...oh, I mean, putting on the ring.
Sealed with a kiss!
Good looking AND happy!
Cutest little flower girl!
Another angle of the view.
More of the view...
The wedding party.
Creighton and the girls...that's Breezy on the left.
Danielle and the boys. WAIT! What's Creighton up to?
Silliness, as usual!
So sweet.
Inside, there was a band (see the man with the glasses playing guitar? Father of the groom)...
and dancing...
...two lovely sisters and their silly daddy!
The winner of Cat's new book, Any Color But Beige, will be announced tomorrow! You can still enter HERE.
I'm not officially linking up with two of the usual Wednesday hops this week, but I am going to put a link up so that y'all can go over and take a peek because THEY'RE FUN!
Being a transplant to the low-country of SC for 31 years is still not long enough to be called a ‘benyeh.’ If I stay until I’m dead I’ll probably go a ‘comeyeh’ since I am, originally, ‘from off’ (which is the upstate but, rules you know). By day I take care of my sweet little granddaughter, Baby M and do all those things I did when I was a SAHM raising four daughters which has translated to, ‘by day, I am exhausted.’ By night I blog, blog, blog, and blog some more or I sleep, depending on my level of exhaustion (do they still make Geritol?). I have a very unhealthy addiction to sweets (nearly any kind will do) and all comfort foods not covered under the ‘sweets’ category. I’m known for speaking my mind so, if you don’t want to know, don’t ask me. I love to find the humor in my empty nest life. I live life hard and smack into that brick wall almost daily because I’ve always had to learn the hard way. Why change now? I’m so glad you’ve come to laugh with me as I do this middle age, empty nest thing like a BOSS!
