Who Needs Calgon?

There seem to be quite a lot of people around here who are hell bent on throwing off my grove negative Grinch-like annoyances roaming around the universe attempting to take away my happy, positive holiday spirit.  These Holiday Spirit Squashers are all around me---the idiots drivers who pull out in front of me to the point where I have to SLAM on MY brakes to avoid hitting them and then they get angry with me; the mean cashier at our local Bi-Lo who always seems to be the only one working when I go in there; those crazy people who stop their carts in the middle of the aisle while shopping and look at you like you've lost your mind when you politely utter, "Excuse me, please."; the impolite people who don't hold the door open for those coming into the store right behind them (particularly annoying when the people right behind them are elderly, I mean, really dude, hold the freaking door); the rude people who bump into someone while shopping and never bother to say, "I'm sorry."; having all the remaining yard sale items all over the house until the big community sale next Saturday; all those owners who STILL ARE NOT LEASHING THEIR DOGS; all the I-have-to-do-it-alone-this-year decorating the house and our Christmas trees, the baking, shopping and wrapping...

But then I put on a headset and select my Christmas playlist and the universe has no control over me whatsoever.  NONE.  The very moment that wonderfully soft, smooth, moving voice of Nat King Cole's comes flooding into my ears, coupled with the emotionally moving sounds of the stringed instruments, I am completely mesmerized.  If I close my eyes while Nat produces his magical musical tones, I can visualize my childhood and the happy holiday memories of those years followed by the years of holiday joys when our daughters were growing up.  Suddenly, I don't care so much what the universe tries to do to my holiday spirit.  So, try as it may, all the Grinch attitudes out there will not rob me of my holiday spirit!  I will focus on the beauty of the season; the wonderfully, refreshing cooler weather; the laughter and mounting excitement of the little children all around town; the fact that the yard sale stuff will be gone in only 6 more days; the fact that I hit my brakes instead of someone; going to the grocery store at a different time; continuing to say "Excuse me please," politely and hold the doors for those entering stores behind me; our FIRST ANNUAL CHRISTMAS OYSTER ROAST; visiting with my dad over Thanksgiving; seeing all 4 of our daughters over the holidays and watching them delight in the decorations including the Christmas trees and the Mmm's from eating the tasty Christmas treats and the ooohing and ahhhing of the festively wrapped Christmas gifts...Yes!  Those are the things that will be the focus of my attention this holiday season!

Who needs Calgon when there is Nat King Cole --with some Bing, Frank, Dean, Sammy and Tony thrown in for good measure!

  1. I'm not sure if by holidays you are talking Christmas or including Thanksgiving, which is fast approaching. Either way, I am still in denial that summer is over, I can't believe holidays are approaching but if Nat King Cole helps soothe your mood, that's great no matter what the holiday.

  2. My mother loved Nat King Cole.

  3. Keep up those positive Christmas thoughts! But keep Nat and Bing close by....

  4. I'm including soon as autumn strikes, we are in holiday mode around here. (although you can find me listening to Christmas music year round!). I live for the end of summer because it's so hot down here!!!

Nat King Cole was very popular with my parents and grandparents so I grew up with him and now my girls love him too.

Thanks so much for taking a minute to comment! Hope everyone had a great weekend! Nat is keeping me positive! LOL

  5. Christmas music is the best. I think I will start playing it while I blog. My mood is finally coming to me and I'm getting excited.
It's the most wonderful time of the year......

  6. I loved this post! We have those same types of "grinches" here! I'm like you...I love my Christmas music, and all things Christmas. It's the most wonderful time of the year!

Thanks for being my blog friend and for leaving regular comments. I love that! You asked about our "old house"...we were going to tear it down, but my daughter wouldn't have that. She and her husband renovated it and are now living there. Funny how things work out, isn't it?

  7. I'll wait until Thanksgiving and then Christmas music is a daily thing. Christmas is my most favorite time of year. I love the music, colors, lights, just about everything except the grumpy people.
Have a great weekend. Take care and God Bless!!

  8. Thought I'd come and visit your blog this week. Just having my first taste of the empty nest this weekend when my first kid moved into his own apartment. I'm really missing him, but I know it was a great step forward for him and I'm really proud of him. It's just weird after 20-something years to not know what he's doing, if he's eating right, or going to bed, etc. Guess I'll get used to it...

  9. I love Christmas music, but have never included Nat King Cole. I'll have to do that this year! In our cold Wisconsin, I play Christmas music from the first snow through January 6. Enjoy your music and don't let the attitudes get you down. :-)

  10. I so agree with you: Nat is definitely the king of Christmas crooning.

    Lovely post.

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment! It makes me feel connected to everyone even though we may live far apart! Have a wonderful day!
