The HUMP DAY HOP!

It's time for WEDNESDAY HODGE PODGE from Joyce at From This Side of the Pond.  This meme is a great way to get to know some wonderful new bloggy friends and learn more about some old ones...not that I'm calling anyone OLD, mind you.

1. July is National Ice Cream month...your favorite flavor? Soft served, hand dipped, or frozen yogurt...which do you prefer? And technically yogurt is not ice cream but its hot outside so I'll let that slide for today.  Most of the time I'm a lover of chocolate.  Every so often I'll go for strawberry, peach or cherry vanilla.  Right now, I'm not eating any of it and I will continue to ban ice cream (or yogurt) until every last pound of this excess weight comes off!  Oh, a little taste here and there won't hurt me you think?  Yes it will.  Because a little + ice cream does NOT compute for me! Oh and hand dipped, hold the sprinkles.

2. When you travel do you tend to pack too much or too little? I used to pack too much all the time no matter where we went.  With four lovelies in tow, I just never knew what we might need.  Plus, the weather changes and all that.  Now, I pack just enough.  And it only took me 27 years of marriage and raising the lovelies to figure out how.

3. What's your favorite cleaning product?  I love Green Works wipes.  I enjoy the easy access, fast use and then throw them away.  But for the more serious cleaning days, I use elbow grease and hot water or steam.

4. Which is the greater tragedy-an innocent person imprisoned or a guilty person set free? Explain. Geez, Joyce, couldn't you come up with a hard question?  LOL  I almost feel that, with this one, it's six of one half a dozen of the other. Giving my full opinion on this one would be nothing less than a written inner debate that would go on and on and on--so I'll spare everyone and just say that they both suck.

5. What's the longest trip you've taken by car?  When I was 12, my grandmother and I flew out to Nevada to ride back with my aunt who was finishing up teaching at a university there.  We drove from Nevada, through California, a piece of Mexico, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia, and back to SC.  A wonderful time but I will NEVER do that again.  I can barely stand to go to my dad's and he's only 4 hours away! And this is one more reason why it totally sucks having three of the lovelies living far-ish away.  I am ready to shoot someone by the time we get to Breezy and BestSonInLawEVER's house which is a mere 5 hours away.  I have yet to venture up to DC to visit Deanie---9 hours away.  And Birdie in Texas at 20 hours away?  It might be time for a visit to the doctor for some Valium followed by the purchase of a plane ticket or two.

6. tennis-golf-canoeing-biking...pick one. Biking.  I hate tennis because it's boring to watch and, when I play, I end up chasing the balls more than hitting them; I enjoy watching golf but can't hit that little ball to save my life; the canoe might tip over and there might be water snakes in the water so, no to canoeing; biking is fun- especially if the town you live in has lots of bike trails...which ours doesn't- but I enjoy biking anyway.

7. What sound drives you crazy? S.N.O.R.I.N.G. I hate it.  And I am most unhappy every single time I Hubs does it. It annoys me to the point that I can't even joke around about it.  Drives. Me. NUTS.

8. Insert your own random thought here.  We FINALLY got some of that lovely rain that some of you have been experiencing and it was TERRIFIC!  It stormed all during the wee hours of Tuesday morning and continued raining throughout the day AND was raining again this morning!  Maybe our rain deficient is only at about 8" now.  Birdie is all moved in but is frustrated with how long it takes to get things up and running.  She likes for everything to fall into place as quickly and quietly as possible.  Don't we all?!

  1. I LOVE road trips!!! I love seeing things along the way - it helps to break the trip up - makes it a series of little trips instead of one great big loooong one!! It also gives me extra things to blog about ;-)

    So envy your rain!!

  2. Love the wipes too. I keep them in the bathroom as sadly they are needed frequently with boys in the house.

  3. Donna- I just can't stand being in the car that long. Especially with Hubs who is a kill joy on trips!

Christine-I have three brothers and, growing up, the wipes would have been a complete blessing!

  5. I'm with you on NOT liking to ride--and the sound of snoring! LOL

So glad that Birdie arrived safely and is getting settled in. I'm sorry she's so far away...I'd hate that, too!

  6. Once we drove from Seattle to Miami.

However rumor has it I may be flying to CT next week, then driving to Los Angeles toting my MIL along),then driving back to Houston (without her).

One of the two is us is going to be on a lot of Benadryl for the trip.

  7. As long as I can drive I don't care how long the trip is. I'm a pretty bad passenger, though. I'm amazed at the number of folks I know who can just read or knit while the miles whiz by.

And don't even get me started on snoring. Yup. It's crazy-making.

Speaking of knitting, yes, I do think you could knit that bag. Email me (in profile) if you want the pattern.

  9. It does seem to take a long time to learn not to pack as much stuff when traveling. But when you have to lug it all around, it starts to sink in that there must be a better way - like packing lighter!

I like road trips, but I don't find it fun to 'drive straight through' for those long trips. Some people seem to take it as a challenge. I take it as a sure thing that I'll feel rotten and grumpy once I get to the destination.

  14. Been raining here in sunny Florida too..

If you are ever down this way try to get to Ritters - frozen custard.. OMG delicious.. and this from someone who's not really bothered about ice cream. They have them in Indiana, Texas, Michigan, New Jersey and Ohio!

  16. Personally, for me....I'll take that stuff that ISN'T ice cream and it's called frozen yogurt. With hot fudge and pecan pieces on top. Maybe to be have a variety, I'll add banana slices. Oh...drooling here!!

Hey? We may get some rain this weekend too. I sure hope so. I'm betting it'll be flooding here in South Texas...there's a tropical storm heading into Corpus.

Oh and your post below...I just LOVE her apartment. Oh, I bet she's having a time of her life! Settling in on her own. It will help her grow, even more, into a well rounded adult. Love the doggies in the photos too.

I always enjoy you visiting with me...thanks for stopping by for my Ruby Tuesday/Picstory Tuesday post.

  18. I hate road trips... my drive to work (an hour for 16 miles) is too much for me :) I have gotten so used to snoring (first my dad, now my hubby) that I don't even hear it. Sadly though, many times we have visitors at the house and Marc's snoring, a floor above, wakes them! They are shocked when I tell them that I didn't even hear it...

  19. I used to lay there and listen to hubby snore. I'd get so annoyed that I'd eventually plot and plan what I'd do to make him stop- ie- a clothespin on his nose, a carrot up each nostril, etc. By the time I allowed myself to have such silly notions, I'd be laughing so hard that he'd stir and roll over. Voila! Problem solved! lol

  20. I don't eat ice cream often but I don't have the will power to ban it completely! That was a very long car trip. Didn't think about snoring, great answer. I can't believe I didn't get over here on Wednesday. I am so behind again.
