HUMP day is here which means it is FINALLY time for my THREE favoritey fun HUMP DAY HOPS!
If you're here for Chats on the Farmhouse Porch or Get Wired Wednesday only, then scroll down.
First up this week is
WEDNESDAY HODGE PODGE from Joyce at From This Side of the Pond. This meme is fun and sometimes even poses a challenge (read: she makes us use our noggins!).
1. Have you ever been 'asked' to report for jury duty? Were you chosen to serve? If not, were you happy or disappointed?
I did serve once. While in college. It was ok. I've been 'asked' (yeah, right) twice in the last couple of years but had an out both times, so I took it.
2. On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being very), how mechanically inclined are you? Give an example to back up your answer. What, no negative numbers? I know how to start my car. If something goes wrong with anything, I call Hubs and he fixes it. He's THE MAN when it comes to fixing anything at all (IF you can ever get him to do it)! Now, the lovelies? They can repair mechanical things up to a point and they can build things! Their dad taught them from the time they were little. Which impresses some boys and intimidates others.
3. Beets-cabbage-cauliflower-butternut squash....of the four, which is your favorite fall vegetable? I have to say that I love them all (we just had beet soup last night) BUT if I have to choose a favorite- it would be butternut squash!!!
4. What do you recommend to overcome self-pity? I don't go down the self-pity path. I have strong opinions about this too. (Big surprise) I guess the best thing to do is just SUCK IT UP and GET OVER IT. The lovelies don't walk that path either. We just don't see the sense in it. If something is going wrong or we don't like it, we take action and change it. Life is too short to waste time traveling the self-pity path.
5. Do you enjoy classical music? OH YES!!! In a big way! I could listen to it any time and love to go to the symphony. Breezy (our oldest) is a cellist and I love to hear her play. I think that the cello makes the most beautiful sound in the world- musically speaking.
6. October is National Book Month...what's on your reading list this month?Wheat Belly and a new book that I'll be reviewing at a later date!
7. What is your idea of 'cute'? Puppies! Little kids laughing and running and playing! Tucker!
8. Insert your own random thought here. Deanie will be home tomorrow! Woot!!! She has to go be in a wedding in Hilton Head Friday and Saturday but she'll be back Sunday morning and I am so excited to see her face! AND DoodleBug has an ultimate frisbee tournament this weekend! It's her first as captain of the College of Charleston women's team! AND there's football!
Next up is a HUMP DAY HOP from Patrice at
Everyday Ruralty called
Chats on the farmhouse porch!
Questions1. Did you have a way to earn money as a child or teen?
I babysat from the age of 12 til I got my first 'real' job at age 15. Ever heard of Carowinds? The year I turned 15 was their first year being opened. I worked there that first summer. It was FUN!
2. Does your body run hot or cold? (Are you in a sweater/jumper when everyone else is in short sleeves or do you wear a sweatshirt when everyone has on parkas?)
I used to run HOT all the time. I could always take the cold but never the heat. NOW, I can't take hot OR cold extremes. I probably bundle up more than most around here during the winter. But, I only complain about the heat.
3. What's your level of computer savvy?
Computer savvy? ME? Surely you jest! I can turn it on. I can use Word and Excel. I can load pictures. I can receive and send email with OR without attachments. I can BLOG!!! And that's about it.
4. When you have pasta, do you prefer a red sauce (marinara type) or a white sauce (fettuccine type)?
Red sauce. Even though we aren't eating pasta anymore. But still, red on spaghetti squash! As a matter of fact, we had spaghetti squash with red sauce and meatless meatballs last night!
5. What's your favorite thing to put in brownies?
Big chunks of chocolate! I'm looking for a good gluten free brownie recipe, BTW, if anyone has one- PLEASE SHARE!

Oh--I forgot about Wheat Belly!!! I marked that off on amazon to get that book as well. And I'm glad there's someone else out there who doesn't do "self-pity". I know my Mom made sure when we were growing up that we never went there-so it just carried over as an adult. I also think I was blessed without the depression gene.
ReplyDeleteI am SO with you on #4 and #5 of Joyce's questions! Glad you'll get to see Deanie. :-) I can say from experience that when I stay away from wheat, I feel unbelievably better!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your answers today. "Wheat Belly" sounds interesting...are you now gluten free?
ReplyDeleteI know you're looking forward to seeing your daughter! Enjoy!
OK...the abundance of vegetables like these is one great reason to enjoy Fall! Sorry Spring...you just can't compete with a squash from the garden!
ReplyDeleteI will have both girls home this weekend too and I'm about to burst. It will be crazy as the travel is of course not coordinated plus at some point hubs has to get himself to the airport but at least he gets a driver. I don't care how many trips I have to make...I love having everyone home all at once. Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, here in Illinois, if you have an out, you only get a postponement. My last call for a jury was during the very busiest time here at work. My boss wrote a letter asking for me to be excused; the commission granted the request. And 4 months later, I got another notice to serve.
ReplyDeleteYay on getting to see Deanie!
Hi there. I can just tell how excited you are to be seeing Deanie again!! Enjoy! Butternut Squash is my favourite I think, although I love beetroot as well, but butternut squash is ideal at this time of the year.
ReplyDeleteCookie- It's a very informative book. Self pity drives me nuts! Hubs' brother and sister sit on their pity pots ALL DAY LONG EVERY DAY. Hate that!
ReplyDeleteJudy- Hey, maybe if people who get on their pity pots listened to classical music...LOL I'm glad she's coming home too! Wish she would stay!
Kathy- Thanks! Yes, we are gluten free now. And it's been great! I can't wait to see her- tomorrow!!!
Stephanie- Amen to that!
Joyce- LUCKY! Deanie booked her flight to get here right at rush hour but I'm like you- I don't care when or how many times I have to go to the airport because she's going to be HOME!!!
Kathy- I hate jury duty. Hate it. I'm so glad she's coming home- even for just the weekend!
Diane- I truly am! It's been too long! We've been having butternut squash a lot lately and I just made beet soup this week! YUMMY!
3. What's your level of computer savvy? Computer savvy? ME? Surely you jest! I can turn it on. I can use Word and Excel. I can load pictures. I can receive and send email with OR without attachments. I can BLOG!!! And that's about it.
ReplyDeleteI could have written this one! I have about the same technical skillz.
How do I do it is my #1 FAQ - you can check it out here. . .

What's Carowinds?
ReplyDeleteI will find my fav GF brownie recipe after I get through the next three crazy days. If I forget, feel free to remind me. I'm with you on heat- I'll manage and even enjoy the cold, but the heat-yuk!
Hope you have a good time seeing your daughter when she's not doing the bridesmaid thing.
Have a good rest of the week!
Great post. I got picked for jury duty the same time Rich was put under hospice care. I figured I'd get out of it the first day. Nope, they picked me for a murder trial. The next day I had to call and explain. This older woman was so sweet and felt so bad for me she didn't excuse me, she said I'd completed my obligation. My luck!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time with Deanie! Loved reading your answers. Enjoy the rest of your week!!!
ReplyDeleteBiz-LOL I don’t know whether it’s a blessing or a curse! I’ll be over to your site soon!
ReplyDeletePatrice- It’s an amusement park on the SC/NC line near Charlotte, NC. Oh YAY! Thanks so much! Deanie will be here this evening and I just can’t wait!!! I may just go sit at the airport until she arrives. LOL
Barb- I don’t know where you found that lady, but you got lucky! I was driving my MIL at the time I got called to her various appointments while she was fighting her cancer and they excused me both times. Thankfully, I haven’t heard from them since. I hope I never do.
Debby-I will! I’m so excited about seeing her- it’s really been way too long! Thanks!
I also am either freezing or sweating and always wearing layers! The gluten free chocolate brownies sound wonderful! Julie
ReplyDeleteLove your blog. Just became a new follower. Would love a follow back.

I love your answer to the first #4. You're a wise woman, Pam.
ReplyDeleteJulie- We're totally digging being gluten free! Everything tastes better!
ReplyDeleteMinta- Thanks! I'll head over!
Kara- Thanks! But I think I'm more impatient than wise. LOL
