You

This post is about YOU.

YOU women out there who take care of everyone else except yourselves. I know YOU because I'm one of YOU. Or, I used to be.

There is nothing in the world I wouldn't have done for the lovelies when they were growing up. No one single thing. Heck, I'll still do for them now. But I was so busy paying attention to their extracurricular activities, school, friend connections, etc. that I completely failed to pay attention to me.

I never said no to anyone. Only to myself. Sound familiar?

Am I sorry? Not really. I mean, I wouldn't change most of way I did. However, I would add some time for me in there. Time that would have kept me healthy. And fit. And slim&trim. Time that would have made me a better role model for the lovelies. At least in the area of health and fitness. I'll just have to settle for the fact that they are still watching. And still learning. And still willing to follow my lead.

I guess it comes down to this-
  • do YOU want to see your kids/grandkids grow up?
  • do YOU want to be a health, fit model for your kids/grandkids to follow?
  • do YOU want to enjoy your life?
  • do YOU want to walk up a flight or ten of stairs and live to tell it?
  • do YOU want to stop being a spectator?
  • do YOU want to walk from your house to your car without becoming short of breath?
Then please realize that:
  • YOU are a worthwhile human being!
  • YOU are important to those around you!
  • YOU are awesome/fabulous/terrific!
  • YOU are a treasure!
  • YOU are loved!
  • YOU are strong!
  • YOU can do whatever you set your mind to do!
  • YOU ROCK!
This is the twenty-fifth day of the A-Z April Challenge. I thought I might try a theme this year and focus on my personal journey to health and fitness, including weight loss.

Today's letter is Y and my word for the day is YOU.

  1. Hi Pam. Gosh, that finger pointing at me was a bit scary!! LOL!! Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes and Yes!!! I think most people are in the same boat when their children are growing up. We just didn't think about ourselves very much, did we?! I think our daughters are different though, and will make time for themselves, and so they should do. Have a great weekend my friend.

  5. Diane- Nothing to be frightened of! Just making us women aware of our worthiness! I think our daughters are different too. I've told mine to take care NOW so they don't get in the mess I am in.

Kimberly-I think we're all guilty of this. Not that it's a bad thing. It isn't. We just need to include some 'me' time in there too!

    Deb-Thanks!

    BB- Thanks! You're welcome!

JP- I think it's true for most. Thank you so much!

LP- And to myself as well. :)

  6. Thank you. I used to be one of those women. I suspect that most moms are. Who has the energy to do anything for herself when the only thing you really want is some sleep? Great post.

  12. The motivational feelings in your words should inspire others. I couldn't have put it better myseld. Perhaps share the words in Desiterata which say something like:
You are a child of the universe, no less than the sun and the stars.

  17. I know exactly what you are talking about because you are talking about me. I did just that: took care of everyone else, including my career before my own health. But no more. Great message and post.
