This post is about YOU.

YOU women out there who take care of everyone else except yourselves. I know YOU because I'm one of YOU. Or, I used to be.

There is nothing in the world I wouldn't have done for the lovelies when they were growing up. No one single thing. Heck, I'll still do for them now. But I was so busy paying attention to their extracurricular activities, school, friend connections, etc. that I completely failed to pay attention to me.

I never said no to anyone. Only to myself. Sound familiar?

Am I sorry? Not really. I mean, I wouldn't change most of way I did. However, I would add some time for me in there. Time that would have kept me healthy. And fit. And slim&trim. Time that would have made me a better role model for the lovelies. At least in the area of health and fitness. I'll just have to settle for the fact that they are still watching. And still learning. And still willing to follow my lead.

I guess it comes down to this-
  • do YOU want to see your kids/grandkids grow up?
  • do YOU want to be a health, fit model for your kids/grandkids to follow?
  • do YOU want to enjoy your life?
  • do YOU want to walk up a flight or ten of stairs and live to tell it?
  • do YOU want to stop being a spectator?
  • do YOU want to walk from your house to your car without becoming short of breath?
Then please realize that:
  • YOU are a worthwhile human being!
  • YOU are important to those around you!
  • YOU are awesome/fabulous/terrific!
  • YOU are a treasure!
  • YOU are loved!
  • YOU are strong!
  • YOU can do whatever you set your mind to do!
  • YOU ROCK!
This is the twenty-fifth day of the A-Z April Challenge. I thought I might try a theme this year and focus on my personal journey to health and fitness, including weight loss.

Today's letter is Y and my word for the day is YOU.

  1. Hi Pam. Gosh, that finger pointing at me was a bit scary!! LOL!! Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes and Yes!!! I think most people are in the same boat when their children are growing up. We just didn't think about ourselves very much, did we?! I think our daughters are different though, and will make time for themselves, and so they should do. Have a great weekend my friend.

  2. What a cute and important post. I know I am just like you in putting the children first. Have a good weekend.

  3. WOW! So true it seems for so many women, including myself! Great inspiration to ready, see & hear!...:)JP

  4. yeah you were talking to me today--thanks

  5. Diane- Nothing to be frightened of! Just making us women aware of our worthiness! I think our daughters are different too. I've told mine to take care NOW so they don't get in the mess I am in.

Kimberly-I think we're all guilty of this. Not that it's a bad thing. It isn't. We just need to include some 'me' time in there too!

    BB- Thanks! You're welcome!

JP- I think it's true for most. Thank you so much!

LP- And to myself as well. :)

  6. Thank you. I used to be one of those women. I suspect that most moms are. Who has the energy to do anything for herself when the only thing you really want is some sleep? Great post.

  7. Betty- No. YOU are! :) Glad you liked it!

    Stephanie- Amen to that! Thanks!

  8. That finger scared me too! I'm you, no I mean I'm me....oh heck i'm confused :)

  9. F- Thanks!

jen- LOL You never fail to crack me up!

  10. LOL I felt like you were poking me in the chest accusingly with that finger and then I started to laugh at myself cos the next part of your post made me smile and get all warm and fuzzy, cos yes I am worthwhile and I am loved. Thanks for reminding me about all the good stuff and I think you are a wonderful role model :)

  11. ll- Thanks but, as far as role models go, YOU'RE the TOPS!

  12. The motivational feelings in your words should inspire others. I couldn't have put it better myseld. Perhaps share the words in Desiterata which say something like:
You are a child of the universe, no less than the sun and the stars.

  13. FS- Thank you! Oh yes! Those words are perfect!

  14. Yes, I do want to do those things so I am on board and I am working on being the best I can be!

  15. Debby- Just keep at it! You're doing great!

  16. Deb sent this post to me last night. Me, I've got to work on that. Thanks for a great post.
    Have a blessed evening.

  17. I know exactly what you are talking about because you are talking about me. I did just that: took care of everyone else, including my career before my own health. But no more. Great message and post.

  18. Ahhh...... sing it, sister! :)

  19. well said... far too often we put ourselves last. i'm just now finally moving myself up from the bottom rung on the ladder of importance. Feels good. :)

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment! It makes me feel connected to everyone even though we may live far apart! Have a wonderful day!
