The Birds of Hodgepodge

Coming off a three day weekend makes going back to school un-enjoyable. You'd think I'd be refreshed and ready to roll but, no. I'm just ready to not go to school anymore. Then again, I do so enjoy the kids once I get there.

Oh well, at least I am able to get up and go somewhere every day. I watched a segment on Garrett Morris on Sunday Morning last Sunday and he said he was not entertaining the thought of ever retiring because, when you have somewhere to go and something to do every day, your body is all like, "Let's get up and go!" Without having somewhere to go and something to do, your body might stop everything. And I surely do not want that!

What I do want, however, is to keep enjoying the Hodgepodge! So, let's get up and go! :)

1. My hubs spent last weekend pheasant hunting. Are there hunters in your family? If so, what do they hunt? Which of the following have you tasted-pheasant, rabbit, venison, duck, goose? Which of those would you most like to taste, or be most willing to taste? IF there are any hunters in my family, they are smart enough not to tell me about it. I don't like it. And I'm not willing to eat any of it. I barely eat farm raised meat much less anything killed because the person pulling the trigger enjoys ending the lives of innocent animals. Not to mention the fact that the people who hunt in these parts are good ol' boy rednecks and I can always do without them and their 'sport.'

Vegetarians keep calm and Hodgepodge on.

2. What high spot have you visited that gave you a wonderful 'bird's eye view' of something below? Oh, NO, girl. I'm not doing the high spot thing. High spots are places that you can fall off of when you get all dizzy from being way up high. Nope. Not going there.

3.  Do you have any birds in your home? These could be either real live pets or decorative, as in bird prints, knickknacks, fabric or pottery. No to the live ones. I don't like caging birds. But I do have one chair with birds on the upholstery fabric. And Birdie did include a cardinal on some of the squares of the Christmas quilt she made me.  Can you see it?

4. Tell about a time you 'killed two birds with one stone'? I'm guilty of trying to do that as often as I possibly can. Especially when it is something I don't want to do or that takes time away from things I do want to do. Specifics, though? Can't think of a 'single' one.

5. Your favorite song with a bird in it's title? My brother and I have a private joke about this one:

BUT, my favorite is this one (even though Paul was not my favorite of the Beatles. I thought George was the best and most talented of them):

6. What most recently gave you goose bumps? I haven't had goosebumps in quite some time.

7. Halloween is this Friday...any plans? Did you trick or treat as a child? Carve pumpkins? Share your most memorable costume. No plans other than to dress up (I'll share later) and hand out whatever candy is left by the time Friday gets here. Ha! I did trick-or-treat but I don't remember costumes. What I remember is the candy! I'm like the Cookie Monster of candy. Seriously.

8.  Insert your own random thought here. Have y'all tried to take selfies? I have. And it's not as easy as the kids make it seem. Getting your whole face takes a lot of tries. And then, when you finally do get your whole face in the shot, you look like a total goof ball

Have a great rest of the week, y'all!

  1. Yep, I understand the trials of taking selfies...I gave up.
And...I'm with you on the 'high places'. No bird's eye views for me either any more. When I was younger, it didn't bother me...but now?

    1. Heights have always bothered me. I just can't do it. The selfies? I nearly gave up when, suddenly, I got my whole face. Now I am working on the expressions. Ha!

  2. I heard someone say, 'To thine own selfie be true.' Lol. I know what you mean about the candy. I'm hoping I'll leave it alone tonight. I'm with you on the whole hunting thing. If people actually need it for food and then actually eat it, that's one thing. I hate the very idea of killing an animal for sport, which I think is far more common..

    1. Killing for sport is the only reason hunters around here do it. I would like to have open season on the hunters. Then I wouldn't mind killing something. LOL I haven't been in the candy yet. I mean, after I opened up all the bags of single serving M&Ms and put them in a jar. Ha!

  3. Halloween was all about the candy!

  4. I'm getting better, but still have not mastered the art of the selfie. I think you have to be under 30 : ) I hid our candy and so far so good. I mean obviously I know where it is, but I'd have to go to a whole lot of trouble to break into it and I haven't hit that point yet. Course it's only Wednesday!

    1. I think you might be right about needing to be under 30. LOL I haven't been in mine either. Except when I opened up all the mini bags of M&Ms and put them into a Mason jar. :O

  6. I always enjoy your post! I'm with you on your answer to #1! And, I think people who retire can make up their owns mind whether to sit around or stay active. I know both kinds. Truly, I'm amazed that some do not do much… because there are so many wonderful places to explore, people to help, etc.

    1. Aw, thank you! Most people I know who are retired are very busy. They seem even busier now than they were when they were working. However, they are having way more fun. LOL

  7. No high places for this girl either! I like my feet planted firmly on the GROUND!
I've seen very few 'selfies' that were truly good. I guess it takes a certain talent?! I don't have it.

    1. I don't have it either. And I shall also keep my feet in the same place. :)

  8. You are too funny! What is it about a selfie that makes us look so alien. I tried following instructions one day and everyone ended up looking like an old woman playing with her iPhone camera. Not pretty! Enjoy your weekend.

    1. Thanks! I don't know but they surely do. Except when the young people take them. Ha! Oh, gosh, that's funny!

  9. I gave up on trying to get a good selfie, but lots of people seem to have figured it out. I agree with you about killing for sport. I don't understand African safaris, when they go out to kill big game, just for sport. Feeding your family is one thing, killing for pleasure is quite another.

    1. Lots of people sure have figured it out but I haven't. Obviously. LOL Agreed. Killing just isn't right.

  10. Needing to have somewhere to go? Don't people have any imagination anymore? Take a stroll, hop a train, whatever. I was just listening to the song Breakdown by Jack Johnson. In the song he sings,
    "And I got no time
That I got to get to
Where I don't need to be"
That situation sounds good to me.
Blackbird singing in the dead of night .... great song. I'll assume you know the subject of the song. It does make the song more interesting.

    1. Love that Jack Johnson song. I think a lot of people do better when they have a routine or schedule to get them up and out. Some may even be afraid that, if they stop working, their purpose is gone and their motivation will go with it. Then again, maybe they've worked so long that they don't even realize there are things you can do for fun or exploration or whatever. Who knows? Yes, I do know the subject of the song. Such a tense time. I remember my parents never letting me watch the news when I was little. They said it was just too violent. Of course, they didn't want me watching Laugh-In either. LOL

  11. My last day of work is Friday..Halloween! I hope to get up in the mornings and take a run, take a quilting class or volunteer! I will not miss working 10-13 hours a day, standing almost the entire time and trying to keep my head above water! What I will miss are my coworkers!

  13. I love the Christmas quilt with the bird, it's beautiful!

It's interesting the different songs everyone is coming up with that have (a) `bird` in the title.
I'm enjoying listening to each one, so this week's hodgepodge is taking a while to go through.

    I love your selfies.
I took a selfie when hubby & I went away for our anniversary.
I looked like a total goof ball, so I didn't post it on my blog.

    Enjoy the weekend!
