Be Happy

I saw this the other day:

Something didn't sit quite right with me about those words. I mean, is that really a reason to be happy?

One thing that I am big on is checking the motivation behind my actions (thoughts, words...) When the motivation is selfish, I try to keep the resulting reactions at bay. I'm almost anal about this. Seriously. Anal. So, when I see something like the sign above, I have to wonder who in the world would want to be happy just because it might drive someone crazy.

I'm of the opinion that selfish motivation will have Karma (the American, pop culture kind not the real one because I'm not in total understanding of the REAL karma) knocking at your door, with force. And I've got enough of that coming without adding to it.

So, I'm thinking that we should be happy because happy is fun and feels so much better than sad or angry or frustrated... But not because it might drive someone crazy. That's not nice. And it's not true happiness either.

Happiness IS an inside job. If it's not true happiness, we better check our insides.

  1. I so agree. Happiness does have to come from inside each of us. So true!

    1. Knowing that, I wonder why some of us hide it from ourselves so often?

  3. I agree, we can't pretend to be happy to drive other's crazy.

    1. Right? That's not happy, that's manipulation. Or being mean. LOL

    1. Yes, but that's not your motivation for being happy. Wouldn't it be nice if we could all be happy for people who are happy? :)

  5. Happiness does come from within - however I don't view the first sign/one-liner so seriously. I find it amusing. Overly happy cheery people do drive others crazy at times. Also people can tell when it's fake.

    1. I see where you're coming from. Over happy people don't bother me. Unless their happiness includes perkiness and it's morning. And I haven't had my coffee. LOL

  6. There are people that I've had in my life who thrived on others when they were down or sad or things were going poorly for them. I couldn't stand it so I would be all smiles and upbeat and they hated it. I no longer have those people in my life but they are out there.

  7. I find the older I get the more confused I am with mean people. Then, I just roll it over and off my shoulders. I AM happy with me. I hope everyone finds some happiness in their day or heart. But it does have to start from our own feelings not what others tell us to feel.
Soap box over. LOL. I do also like to kick a little ass sometimes...huh? what? who? nm xoxox

    1. So true! It is like some folks don't want others to be happy. And that is mean. Can't we all just get along? :) You get on that soapbox, girl! I love it!
