Tired But Not Sick Hodgepodge

Only two more days and I'll mark this week off the calendar as DONE. One more and NO SCHOOL FOR A WEEK! I am so tired, I might not even cook a meal on Thanksgiving Day. I mean it.

That said, to lighten and freshen the mood, here's the Hodgepodge!

1. In two or three sentences tell us what Veteran's Day means to you? Well, it doesn't mean I get the day off, that's for sure. Mostly, I guess Veteran's Day serves as a reminder, to me, of how badly veteran's are treated. I've recently decided to check into the Wounded Warrior Project. If it's legit, it may very well become the latest charity in which I involve myself.

2. What's your favorite film with a patriotic theme woven into the storyline? I don't watch many movies with a patriotic theme. Does APOCALYPSE NOW, count? I do, for some unknown reason, enjoy watching, INDEPENDENCE DAY.

3. Flu shot-yes or no? If you answered no, do you plan to get a flu shot? If not, why not? Have you ever had the flu? No. I do not get them. I am convinced that, should I get a flu shot, I will get the flu. Plus, I believe the whole flu shot fad is a racket. I've had the flu, but it was over 10 years ago. Thankfully.

4. I've seen lots of people posting pictures of their Christmas trees up and decorated. Many stores have had Christmas on display since well before Halloween. Red cups are back at Starbucks, sans the holiday decor, and that has some people up in arms. What are your thoughts on all the holiday ruckus this second week of November? People need to find something to do. Apparently, they have way too much time on their hands and have decided to use this idle time to show their stupidity.

5. What 'critter' are you most afraid of encountering unexpectedly? Do snakes count on this one? Or lizards? Or are you talking about critters like rats and the like? Cause I'm not fond of any of those. Why that one? Snakes and lizards need no explanation. Rats, because of their tails and I just don't want them on me. Shutter.

6. Do you like building things? It depends on what it is and who is helping. What's the last thing you 'built'? I 'built' ghosts out of chicken wire for Halloween.

7. In keeping with this month's theme of gratitude...what are you most grateful for that brings beauty to your daily life? TUCKER!

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
Is it Thanksgiving week yet? We REALLY need a break from school. Sheesh. When we had the 'Big Flood of 2015' (assume sarcasm), the powers that be shut down school for three days and then, almost immediately after, took the three days we had in the form of teacher workdays and Election Day away from us because, God forbid, anyone who teaches dare not have three days that they don't go to work. I mean, it's not like we're up there every freaking weekend and stay until 7:00 at night or anything. AND, to add insult to injury, they want us to keep track of the hours we work to make up those three days. I wish everyone would keep a detailed record of the hours they work year 'round. Maybe someone would open their eyes. Seriously, I do not know one teacher who works an 8 hour day for only 10 months of the year. Not. A. Single. One.

Have a great rest of the week, y'all!

  1. So nice you get the whole week of Thanksgiving off. My daughter isn't off until Wednesday, but we'll take it. I think everyone is ready for a breather at the end of November. We're having dinner with friends, and I'm happy I don't have to figure out how to cook a big meal in my makeshift rental kitchen : ) Hang in there!

    1. They started giving us the week a few years ago. It's not ideal but we don't have a choice. Someone, we believe, downtown, wanted it so we are stuck with it. It's so hard to take the week and then get the kids back on track for the three weeks until Christmas break. But they never ask us. Ha! Apparently, we're hosting for 10. Oh, joy. LOL Glad you don't have to deal with cooking in the rental kitchen!

  4. I so agree on #4. Our granddaughter had a pet rat. Well, actually, more than one. Because I love her, I actually held that horrid creature and let it climb up my arm. Believe me, it was only for her. I tried not to remember than that that ugly, long ratty tail was attached at the end. Once I caught sight of it, my stint as rat holder was over and done. I hate rats. What's with that tail anyway? Without it they just look like less furry squirrels or hamsters or something tolerable. Anyway, hope you enjoy the week. Hope I don't dream about that rat tonight.

  5. It is true, our Veteran's do not get treated with the respect and help that they need. Good movie choices! I'm with you on the flu shot. It's just a red cup, how did it escalate so far. I said snake!

    1. They really don't. Maggie works as an artist for a local company and the Wounded Warrior Project had them host a gathering to paint with the vets. She told me all about it and my heart broke. Some of them just needed help being able to hold the brush still, others just someone with whom to talk. Anyway... Yeah, the flu shot is a huge red flag to me. And snakes are horrid creatures! :)

  6. The Wounded Warrior Project is for real. My DAR Chapter supports it here in Lakeland, and my friend and co-worker (who is also an amazing photographer) did portraits for some of the wounded warriors. You can see them here: http://gregorymills.com/wounded-veterans/5m51uaywsbe3ddge2qx1l3aofrmc8x As for your #8...craziness. I know how hard you teacher work. Good grief, what is wrong with them there?!

    1. Maggie (my oldest) works as an artist for a local company and they had a gathering for the wounded warrior project. The stories broke my heart. I'm about to jump all over that one with support. Around here, the school district is crazy. I'll have to tell the story about the $18 MILLION dollar, sudden deficit and how the responsible party still has his job and they are trying to cut back school programs now. THAT's the kind of thing that is wrong here.

  7. I was surprised to find that here in Georgetown County the schools were out on Veteran's Day. Not sure why. Horry County had school. No rhyme or reason. I think you are right about the day reminding everyone of how horrible so many vets are treated. I played with the PI Community band at a ceremony yesterday and I kept looking at all those old sad faces...men wearing their caps and vests - some still living in the past, others looked worn out.

    1. I was talking with a friend yesterday about another friend's father who was a vet and an alcoholic. I wonder how it's possible for a vet to NOT be an alcoholic. I couldn't do what they do. No way. The way the general public and the government turn their backs is worse than shameful.

  8. Great looking ghosts. I have a teacher related riddle I'm sharing with the teachers I know.
What do you call a teacher who does NOT fart in class?

    1. Me either! I'm enjoying the Thanksgiving season just as I did the Halloween season. THEN, I'll enjoy the Christmas season. Although, I did already go to the Christmas section of Walmart and buy some boxes. LOL
