The Thing About Grandmas: Yoga Pants Wearing Grandma

That's right. I  plan on donning those controversial leggings/yoga pants beginning in September on a daily basis. Why? Because I shall be entering a new life era known as Mother, Part 2. Grandmother, Extraordinaire. Nana the Great. Yaya, the caregiver.

No, I have not lost my mind. Yet. I'm simply going to enter my new life stage not only as a grandmother but also as the daytime caregiver for my granddaughter. Thaaat's right. Most of you probably remember that the day I found out I was going to be a grandmother, Thanksgiving Day, it was decided that I would not go back to school next year and stay home with Baby M so my daughter and wonderful son-in-law do not have to put my granddaughter in daycare. And I'm going to do it yoga pants and leggings. And I don't care one bit what anyone thinks about it.

No, I don't look good in leggings or yoga pants. Not many people do. I never wear them to school but I do wear them at home and when I go to the grocery store or the dreaded Wal-Mart because what else would I want to wear on the weekends? (Don't worry, my tops are long enough to cover most of the most offensive parts.) Have you ever put on these type pants? They are the most comfortable pants EVER. When I put on a pair of these delightful knits all thoughts of "do I look fat in these pants?" go completely out of my mind. And there's also the fact that I look pretty fat in everything so why not be comfortable.

No. I won't be the least bit interested in how I look or what other people think about how I look. I'll be hanging out with my granddaughter every day and that will be the only thing that matters.

Also, let's not forget what it's like to care for a baby. Y'all remember the spitting up? The drooling? The leaky diapers? Yeah, I'm not dealing with all that in clothes I'd wear to work or out to lunch with a friend. No, yoga pants fit the bill. Who cares if they get dirty? AND, since I'll be sitting on the floor a good bit of the time as the little darling grows, it will be nice to be able to get up off said floor. Leggings make that task so much easier. There's also the fact that I plan on taking the sweet little love (and Tucker, of course) out for several walks each day. It's hot here most of the year and when there is sweat, who wants to be in work type clothes? Not me. I'll take leggings every time.

Considering these easy to wear pants are less restrictive, easy to clean, cool, and affordable I can't really say I care about how they look or how I look in them. Taking care of little ones is a messy business. A messy business that I am not only looking forward to experiencing as a grandmother but one I plan to dress for.

Hey, just be grateful that I won't be donning a bathing suit at the beach.

  3. Stretch! It's the only way to go. I'm so thankful for it at this stage of the game. Spit up, sticky fingers, slobbers, etc it's all worth it.

    1. I will change if I'm going somewhere other than the grocery store or Walmart. Otherwise, they just have to deal. LOL

  6. Great declaration of Grandma power. Not that you need to declare such plans. It has surprised me how quickly those little ones start to notice how people dress. I've had preschool aged grandkids comment on my clothes.
