It's a Holly Jolly Hodgepodge

It won't be long now, y'all! Two more days and Christmas Eve will be here. Are y'all ready for Santa? I know he's coming to see Baby M and I'm excited! She would be, too, if she weren't a mere 5 months old. Ha! It's time to start preparing for the baking that has to be done though it will be light this year since two of the lovelies and their boys won't be here. But they'll be here on the 27th and the celebrating will commence at that time! WooHoo!

This is the last Hodgepodge of the year as we'll be on Christmas break next week. But Joyce says we'll return on January 4, 2017 (wow, 2017) which just happens to be Breezy's 32 birthday. Whoa. 32. Wow. Wow. Wow. I need a diversion. Thankfully, it's time for the Hodgepodge!

1. What's left to be done on your Christmas to-do list? Not much because we're getting away from gift giving this year. Y'all can read about it HERE

2. The Hodgepodge lands on the first day of winter this year. What's your favorite thing about winter? What's not to love about winter?! My favorite thing is SNOW even though we don't get it here very often. I had it every year when I was growing up and it was glorious! I also love winter clothes and sitting in front of a fire, sipping Bailey's, and the oldest lovely and I have winter birthdays! I also love that I don't break out in a sweat just walking from inside to the front porch.

3. In what area of your life are you immature? Seriously? Just ONE? Feel free to elaborate or not. How about not wanting people to touch my stuff? Really. I am anal about putting everything in its place and I don't like for anyone to make a mess or take and not return. I want everything to be just the way I left it. When that doesn't happen, I will throw a hissy fit.

4. What was the most (or one of the most) important lessons you learned in 2016? I have 2: Becoming a grandmother is the most amazing thing EVER and taking care of a granddaughter is exhausting (otherwise known as I'm not as young as I used to be)

5. It's Fried Shrimp Day...are you a fan? Is that a REAL question? YES! BUT there is a condition- it MUST be fresh off the docks. What's your favorite way to eat shrimp? Probably fried but my shrimp and grits are to die for! Will there be shrimp somewhere in your holiday feastings? No. We'll have shrimp on a few birthdays through the year. Next Thanksgiving I'm going to make a shrimp and grits dressing recipe I found. This is me:

6. What sound lulls you to sleep? A fan.

7. What one word best describes your 2016? JOY because:

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

Have a very Merry Christmas
and the happiest Happy New Year EVER!

  1. Yep - we both thought of the scene from Forrest Gump! Love it. And, I am jealous of you, being a new grandmother! My time will come... I hope... and hopefully soon. I'm ready! I'm just not sure if the newlyweds are yet! Have a Merry Christmas with that precious little one!

    1. I really am! She's just the cutest, sweetest, smartest, most delightful little thing! :) The energy? It's OFF the charts! I'm not kidding. I am exhausted during the week but it's worth it. Plus, they still make Geritol so...LOL I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas, too!

  3. We cut back the gift giving a little every year it seems. I still enjoy giving so won't completely let it go. Enjoy this very special first Christmas with your grandgirl! She's a cutie!

    1. I'm still giving to Baby M and my parents and aunt. Otherwise, it's one simple thing and that's it. It's not a matter of not enjoying the giving with me because it's something I do enjoy. I just feel our focus should be on helping others giving should be reasonable instead of going overboard like I usually do. There's just no need for that. Baby M has to go to Indiana for Christmas this year but will be back on the 27th. Next year, when she's more into it, I get her. :)I know you'll be missing your west coast girl but I also know you'll enjoy the daughter who lives close. A very Merry Christmas to you and yours on your first Christmas in the new house!

  4. I love the song, Beautiful Star of Bethlehem and I totally agree with you on the grandmother thing. Now I understand why so many people say, "if I'd known it was so great being a grandparent, I would have skipped the parenting thing and gone straight to grandparenting." lol

Merry Christmas to you and yours Pam!!!
