Winnie the Pooh and the Hodgepodge, too

Here we are with another summer day in winter. I'm so over this weather. Hot weather gives me that seasonal depression that people speak of about winter. I get all happy during winter. How's that for being backward? Ha! I'm still hoping we'll get real winter before it's all said and done. Not the ice storms and such that have been going on far from here but I'd love some winter temps and a little snow or something. This 60 and 70-degree stuff is killing my allergies which are killing me.

Thank goodness I don't have to go out in the unseasonably warm temps to enjoy answering the Hodgepodge questions and reading everyone's responses! Welcome back, y'all!

1. ASAP typically stands for 'as soon as possible'. What else could it stand for in your life right now? As simple as possible (why does everything have to be such a production? Just do it and keep it simple). As safe as possible (I have HUGE safety issues so I'm always concerned about being safe). Always say a prayer (no explanation needed). All of those would fit.

2. Are you the last person to speak up in a group or the first to have an idea? I'm the one who speaks up because the lull drives me nuts. But I usually have an idea that I've held onto for when that lull happens. Why do you suppose that is? Because lulls drive me nuts.  Is it a good thing or no? I have no idea.

3. What do you remember best about being 12? Gaining three brothers. That's the year my parents adopted three brothers.

4. January 18th is National Winnie the Pooh Day. Which character do you relate to the most, and why? I go between Tigger and Eeyore. Do you think that means bi-polar? If you're stumped go here for inspiration.

5. What's an app you use that helps simplify or make life easier for you in some way? WAZE is helpful. I like it much better than Google Maps. But I use Google Maps for directions. I'm looking at ASL apps now because I want to teach Baby M how to sign. The rest of the apps do not simplify or make life easier at all. They're just there or they enable my addiction of focusing on my phone too much.

6. San Francisco (CA), San Diego (CA), San Juan (PR) San Antonio (TX) Sanibel (FL)...you have an all expenses paid long weekend to one of these destinations. Which one do you choose and why? I have no desire to go to any of those places. I've been to the CA references. Basically, I have no desire to go anywhere the weather is as hot or hotter than right here.
7. Share with us a song that makes you feel nostalgic? The Christmas Song when sung by Nat King Cole. For what? My grandparents.

8.  Insert your own random thought here. I made a HUGE mistake over the holidays of suggesting that the lovelies and I try to walk 2017 miles in 2017. Then I did the math. And now I'm failing miserably. Deanie has embraced it and goes to the gym every evening after work to get in her miles. Birdie is an athletic trainer and has Baby M so no problem for her. Breezy declined. Smart girl. And DoodleBug is kind of where I am. Even my step-mother is getting her steps in. Sheesh. Come on. I lack motivation. I feel drained of all energy every single day. And then, I read a comment on a post from someone who wrote: It's important to watch for signs of depression- endless TV watching- not wanting to leave the house- not knowing what will make you happy... Well, shoot. Is that for real? I have 2 of the 3 as I know what will make me happy. So, the tv is off except for YouTube where I put on playlists of whatever music strikes my fancy of the moment and I'm going to get out of the house. I went to lunch on Monday with Bestie and have other plans for the week. I'll be taking Baby M to the park and the library for some fun as well. I do tend to sit and wait for other people to do what I need them to do before I can do what I need/want to do. But they never do it. I got stuck sitting and waiting without even knowing it. Now, I'm having to remind myself daily to stop waiting and live my life. How stupid was that? Anyway, thanks to my friend Kim at My Field of Dreams, I'm at least getting up every hour getting at least 250 steps on my Fitbit before I continue what I was doing throughout the day and that's helping me want to branch out and get those miles in. I'm not there yet but it's coming. I hope.

Have y'all ever gotten stuck in a rut without realizing it? How do you not let people bring you down?

Have a great rest of the week, y'all!

  1. Yes, indeed, I have been in that rut!! Moving into a smaller house has been my remedy. Packing and sorting has gotten me off the couch, anyway. My app answer was also WAZE! What a handy little thing to have when traveling! I don't even look at the steps on my VivoFit anymore. It has just become my watch. Sigh.

    1. My house is already small. I need to downsize the number of people living in it. LOL WAZE is handy, indeed. As for my Fitbit...it tells me things I don't like so...Haha! Thanks! Have a great Wednesday!

  2. First off, you are not failing on the walking challenge because ANY increase is a win! Any improvement in moving and being more active is a win for your body and your mind. So, don't be hard on yourself. Second: your parents adopted THREE brothers at one time?? There has got to be a great story there! You can't just mention it and not give some background. More please!!

    1. I wouldn't be hard on myself except that, for the most part, I've been sedentary. And that must stop. Yes, they did. Three biological brothers at one time. It was crazy! I have a post devoted to it right here: http://www.emptynest1.net/2011/02/brothers.html

  3. It's hard to move it, move it...when your butt wants to sit it, sit it, I'm having a hard time getting my groove on when it's cold outside. I just want to wrap up in a cozy throw and read a good book. But like Marla said, any exercise is better than none...does playing with the cat count? Have a good week.
    Cheers!

    1. Amen to that. :) I have a hard time because it's unseasonably warm. And because I'm lazy. I vote yes to playing with the cat counting as exercise. I mean, I count playing with Baby M. :) Thanks!

  4. So interesting about walking 2017 miles in 2017! I love it! How much do you have to walk every week to hit that goal? I'm addicted to my FitBit and my goal is to clock 20K steps a day! I enjoyed reading your hodgepodge today!

    1. It comes to about 5.5 miles PER DAY. I've made it one day. So, not too good. Only one of us ever comes close to 20,000 steps every day. That one is an athletic trainer and mommy to Baby M. Thanks!

  5. All three of your ASAP's are good. I went blank and couldn't think of any. I'd be happy just getting 1-2 miles in everyday. It's time I get my Fitbit back on and start walking.

    1. I need to be happy getting 1 or 2 miles in and work up. Part of the problem is biting off more than I can chew. As usual. Haha! Thanks!

  6. That commenter who wrote about depression was describing anyone who lives in Wisconsin in the winter! - or at least for part of the winter. LOL Our daughter taught her little ones to sign so that they could communicate way before they were able to speak. It was a great idea! It does get a little tricky at the end when you're transitioning from signing to speech, because some kids don't want to put the effort into speech, but it sure does help with communication at an early age! I wonder why I don't have any trouble understanding what Tommy and Smokey want. MEOW!!!! lol

    1. I found a video on YouTube where this lady sings the words while she signs them. She is the most annoying thing in the world and Baby M LOVES her. I'm going nuts. LOL Same here with Tucker. I always know what he wants. And yesterday, it was the kitty outside. LOL I've honestly thought about getting him a kitty as a friend but my allergies won't allow it.

  7. Like you ASAP suggestions. After reading "addiction of focusing on my phone" I thought that could be worked into ASAP. Avoid Smartphone Addictive Pleasures or Another Smartphone App Purchase
