Sizzlin' Summer Hodgepodge

We've got big things going on around here this week. Someone is going to have her first birthday on Friday and there's a baby shower on Saturday. If anyone would like to come help me clean this house and move/organize all the CoasterDoodle paraphernalia into my bedroom because we sort of need the table, feel free. You can stay for the shower and the birthday party. But there's always time for the Hodgepodge, right? Let's face it, the Hodgepodge is part of the reason I'm still a tiny bit sane. Well, the Hodgepodgers anyway. :)

There's a technical issue with Photo Bucket so Joyce is missing her Hodgepodge button. She says we're good to go without it this week. But I thought I'd leave a link for those who want to join but don't know how:

1. When and where were the best fireworks you've ever seen? I'm not much of a fireworks gal but I did enjoy the ones in the small town where I grew up. Of course, things like firework shows are always spectacular when you're a kid. Speaking of fireworks...do you know your hot buttons? Yes, I do. The things people can say and/do to set you off? Right, yes. When was the last time someone pushed one of your hot buttons? You would think after all these DECADES people closest to me would not push those buttons. But they do. There are buttons that set all of the women in our family off and those are the buttons being pushed lately. Or should I say, since January? But around here? Monday.

2. Have you hosted any outdoor summer parties this year? Not yet. But we're hosting a baby shower for DD1 this weekend. Attended any? No, it's too stinkin' hot. What makes for a great outdoor party? Cool weather. Ha! Good friends, good food, good fun. And since it's summer, outdoor fans, shade, and cold beverages.

3. What does freedom mean to you? My answer is not simple. It's very complex and would take more than this space to explain. There is no way to answer this question without going into a long discourse about many, many situations and groups of people. It's something I am extremely passionate about and some of it may come off as nothing more than a rant. Yes, some of it makes me angry but it is way more than a mere rant.  This is a good place for me to say: Do not get me started.

4. July is National Cell Phone Courtesy month...what annoys you most about people's cell phone habits? It drives me nuts when I'm having a conversation with someone and they look at their phone to read and send texts. Seriously? How rude. Not that I don't check my phone during conversations but it only happens when the text notification goes off and I say, "Excuse me I just want to make sure it's not one of the girls." Because no matter how old they are, they still come first. Well, after Baby M but she's too little for a cell phone so...LOL Anyway, if it isn't one of the girls, I ignore it. All of my friends who are moms do this. Our kids come first and we all not only know it but we support it.

5. What's your current summer anthem? I always love this one. Thought I'd give y'all a few versions so you can listen to your favorite. Unless your favorite is a different version in which case, share!

6.  Insert your own random thought here. It's all things first birthday and baby shower around here this week as I mentioned way up at the beginning. But did y'all know that Nashville Daughter and DrummerBoy arrive later today so the gang will ALL BE HERE to celebrate?! I'm afriad y'all are going to be inundated with photos next week.

Have a wonderful rest of the week, Y'all!

Don't forget to visit my Etsy shop, CoasterDoodles

or buy something! 😉
I've got brand new additions for your viewing and purchasing pleasure! 😀😁😁

  1. I'm going to finish listening to Norah as soon as I complete this comment. You have a busy week ahead...fun, too! Always amazing to see how quickly the little one goes from infant to a year old. It's truly miraculous.

    1. We do have a busy week but Nashville daughter is my right hand man, so to speak, so things will get done! :) Norah Jones has a very nice voice. I love listening to her. Thank you for stopping by and commenting! Have a wonderful Wednesday!

  2. I also dislike someone stopping mid-conversation just to see who is sending a text. That can't wait until I've finished my sentence? I'd love to come help you host-showers and birthday parties are my favorite thing to put together. Happy birthday to Baby M! Can we still call her Baby? And enjoy celebrating the newest mama-to-be!

    1. Right? It's belittling when people do that. I wish you could come and help. I know my girls would just love you! I don't know what to call her now...ToddlerM? CutiePie? SweetPea? But you're right, she needs a new blog name. :) It's going to be Grandma's daycare for sure pretty soon!

    1. I have no idea how that happened. Last year, we were waiting not so patiently for her arrival and now, she's a day away from being a one year old. I love Norah Jones, too. Such a relaxing voice. Thank you! Have a wonderful Wednesday!

  4. Norah Jones is one of my favorites. I agree that it is way too hot for an outside party. Now, please tell me how you added the link to You Tube?

    1. Mine, too! She's got such a relaxing voice. Ok to add a YouTube video: there is an icon to the right of the image icon you use to add images to your posts. Click it and when the Add a Video pop-up opens, choose the second option which is, "From YouTube." You'll need to search the video you want and then just click on the 'Select' button at the bottom. :) Hope that helps!

  5. I understand where you are at with the birthday party and baby shower. My daughter's wedding isn't until September but it is pretty much consuming every waking moment and even when I'd like to take a break, my daughter calls about 50 times a day to tell me one little thing or ask a question. I'm looking forward to the wedding, but I will also be very glad when it's over and done with.

    1. We've had two weddings and I was very glad when they were over even though I did have a wonderful time at both. The first one put my bestie and I in charge and we had to hunt her down for approval on everything. The second one wanted to do everything herself but didn't move as fast as I thought she needed to so I stepped in on a couple of things. I can't tell you how many times I said, "These people have deadlines."

  6. Enjoy the week ahead, although it's probably going to be pretty hectic! Just can't believe that little cutie is going to be one year old on Friday!!

    1. It does seem a bit hectic but Nashville Daughter is my helper so it's going to be fine. :) I can't either, Diane. The year has just flown by. :)

  7. I couldn't agree more about the cell phone thing. Totally rude! I must say, your answer about freedom has raised my curiosity. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Right? And I've had my own daughters do it to me. Of course, they do it to everyone else too but still. Maybe I'll write about freedom from my viewpoint one day. :) Thanks so much for reading and commenting!

  8. First of all, I LOVE the musical selections you gave us. I'm going to put them on my Spotify when I'm done writing this! In listening to the middle one, you can almost feel how hot it is!! Congrats to Baby M for the upcoming birthday. She's walking up a storm and I'm sure will be helping you get ready for the baby shower. :-) Today it's a high of 87 with a real feel of 96here. Why did they stop using words like humidity and wind chill?? Now it's 'real feel.' Anyway the printer paper is limp and my hair is curling. I couldn't live in the South, except in January through March. Lol. Good luck getting your CoasterDoodles moved to the bedroom. It's amazing how projects grow, isn't it!! Hope your A.C. is working great. 💕

    1. I love the song in pretty much every version I've ever heard it. Oh, yes. Baby M is definitely helping prepare for the shower. Ha! Our heat index or 'feels like' weather today was 106. Actual temp was 93 but that dang humidity did us in. I've gotten most of it moved but I'm not sure where I'm going to sleep. LOL If I could just get Maggie out of the house and into her own place, that would give me a room back that could be devoted to the business of creating. Darn boomerang kids. :)

  9. Enjoy Baby M's first birthday and have a wonderful time at the baby shower. Two fun events! I'm with you on the freedom questions and that is why I didn't have an answer for it. Agree with you answer for cell phones too. Such fabulous song choices.

    1. It's going to be a fun weekend for sure! Whatever happened to being polite during conversation? Do they think texting someone else is polite while conversing with someone in real life? Thanks so much!

  10. I have not seen fireworks for many years, I miss the local ones that I use to be able to sit out in my back yard to watch. Haven't been to a baby shower or wedding or anything in a bloody long time. I don't like to answer my mobile if I am at the checkout or other counter being served I think it is wrong and rude

    1. Oh, yes. At the checkout is a good one. I've seen people do it and the poor cashier trying to wait to announce the total. Cashier being polite, customer on cell not so much. Head on over and come to the shower. Australia is only a 24 hour flight, right? :)
