The Wednesday HOPS

The first HOP is from Patrice, at Everyday Ruralty, who hosts Wednesday Words of Weight Loss every Wednesday!  It's a fun HOP that offers encouragement and company on the issue of weight.  It's never too late to join!  Come on, this is your week to join in the FUN!

Questions
1. I've heard it said that you should eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper. What are your meals like?  Breakfast and lunch are more like a pauper and supper is either kingly or princely.  The reason being that Hubs is at work during breakfast and lunch.  When he comes home, I have a larger meal prepared- he works hard and is hungry after work.  The things that he likes that I am not eating while trying to dump all this excess weight I still prepare for him but I don't eat any of it.  (I sure am glad you didn't ask about between meal eating).

2. Does eating out include all of the trimmings (appetizer, meal, dessert, beverages)?  No.  On the rare occasions that we eat out we never get the appetizers or dessert.  Our beverages are tea and/or water.  Now, if the lovelies are with us, they might order an appetizer but no one orders dessert.  The lovelies will usually go to Kaminski's afterwards if they want dessert.

3. What's your favorite season of your wardrobe?  Fall and winter.  All those clothes cover up more of this huge body. And they're all dark.  And I prefer dark.

4. If you could take a class or course in anything, what would it be?  Photography.  Or writing.  Or Spanish.  It would be hard to narrow that down to one.

5. Optimist or Pessimist? Definitely an optimist.  But it has come with age because I used to be a pessimist.  I much prefer optimism!  It's less stressful and happier.

Second is WEDNESDAY HODGE PODGE from Joyce at From This Side of the Pond.  This one is a great way to get to know some wonderful new bloggy friends and learn more about some old ones...not that I'm calling anyone OLD, mind you.

1. What reveals more about a woman-her refrigerator or her purse? I guess it would be her purse.  When I carried a purse (which was mostly while the lovelies were growing up) I had everything that one of us could possibly need from safety pins/tape/hair ties to Tylenol/bandaids/cough drops and everything in between.  And more!  We were always prepared and rarely, if ever, had to ask someone for anything.  Now, I don't care.  I just carry my Vera Bradley key chain/zipper thingy and my phone- simplicity is more my style.  If we ever get any grandkids, it's back to the purse that holds everything!

2. When was the last time you went to the zoo? Where? What's your favorite zoo animal?  That was back in the early 1990s.  In Columbia, SC.  I don't like zoos.  I don't like taking wild animals out of their natural habitats and shipping them to different countries for people to ogle them.  I feel sorry for the animals the entire time I'm there so I don't go I don't care how natural the zoo is.

3. What social issue fires you up? Sorry, can't narrow that one down to one.  But whenever the subjects of prejudice, injustice, animal cruelty, child abuse of any kind, hate crimes comes up- people will see me fired up!  And I have definite opinions as to punishments I'd like to see the offenders suffer.  And don't get me started on drunks either.  Or homelessness.  And poverty.

4. Are you a coupon clipper? If so, are you extreme? No.  I don't buy much along the lines of processed foods (in boxes, jars, cans) and I don't see meat and fresh produce coupons around.  However, throw me a store coupon like $10 off you entire purchase and I AM THERE!

5. What is one of your favorite souvenirs brought back from your travels? In order to bring back souvenirs, one must travel.  I do not travel.  I'm interested in other places, but I hate being in the car and I'm terrified of flying---it's too closed in for me.  My fear of trains goes way back to my childhood and the Tweetsie episode.  However, my dad and all my girls LOVE to travel so, everyone always brings me back Christmas ornaments from their travels.  I have them from Spain, Scotland, England, Germany, Holland, Jamaica, South America, Mississippi, Chicago, San Francisco, and Canada.  And they are all my favorites!

These are just a few of the ornaments they've brought back for me- these are from London, Spain, the Galapagos Islands, Holland, Jamaica, and Germany.  Oh, and that little back-hoe thing is from a mission trip my dad took to Mississippi.

6. Lemon meringue or key lime?  Lemon meringue and I want some NOW!  Oh gosh but I LOVE lemon meringue pie!!!  NOT that gel kind, the creamy kind...like my mother makes.  It's one thing that I would eat right now- trying to lose weight or not!

7. What is the most beautiful word you know in any language?  Daughter.

8. Insert your own random thought here. DoodleBug got me hooked on DEXTER Monday afternoon.  I've watched all of Season 1 since then.  Today, Season 2 baby!  I cannot believe I am hooked on that show or that I'm admitting it.  But there it is.

And a HUGE thank you to the gals who host these FUN hops each week!

  1. I've never seen Dexter. We've had a solid week of pouring rain and we could use a good series...it is that sort of weather-ugh!

    Love your word : )

  2. I knew you were a fellow optimist! I agree with the question in the other hop- daughter is one of the most beautiful words in our language. The word of my heart!

  3. TWIN - I adore Dexter! I got hooked after watching season one and had to buy the next seasons. What good taste we both have ;)
You got me with the daughter comment - I felt all sloppy and maternal. (I'm not hormonal am I?)
    XOXO

  4. Such interesting answers! I was making good progress reading your post, but then I came across the picture of the pie and had to stop and stare at it for about ten minutes.

  5. Joyce- You have to be a bit quirky to enjoy Dexter...it's...let's just say, different and leave it at that. LOL

Patrice- Indeed! Optimism is so much better, isn't it? I knew you'd agree with daughter!

Carol-I should have known you would love Dexter! I watch a lot of psychological/serial killer movies and DoodleBug suggested that I might like Dexter. It took three episodes and then, I was hooked! I've got the second season via Netflix and then will have to buy the others! No, you're not hormonal. And neither am I. LOL

Betty- I know! I really want some right now. Therefore, I am avoiding the grocery store and my mother's house. LOL

  6. As a vegan, I find it very difficult to find produce coupons; however, there are great canned tomato and canned bean coupons, so I take advantage of those. Eating healthy is definitely more expensive, eh?

  7. I love your souvenier Christmas ornaments! I usually buy an ornament whenever I travel, too, but I'm like you, and don't travel much these days!

I think you and I must have the same opinion of "drunks". Can't stand them!

You are a blessed woman..four beautiful daughters! Give me a daughter any day! Sons always leave us...for another woman! LOL

  8. Christmas ornaments are a wonderful souvenir idea!!! I wonder if I could remember all the places I've gone and go backwards collecting them. Surely my husband wouldn't notice more Christmas ornaments coming in the house - surely.... ;-)

  9. auburnchick-Yes! It is way more expensive. Our garden is starting to produce though- we just had salad last night and all the lettuces were from our garden! It was great!

Kathy-Thank you! I love my ornaments too! And, believe it or not, I can remember who brought them back from where! I can't stand drunks either- Hubs' family is full of them and we live next door to two. I hate it! Hubs never left his mother for another woman. His mother was always first. Which is why our girls are careful not to marry someone devoted to their mother.

  10. Betty-I knew you'd like it! I know-I've been dreaming of pie all day long!

  11. Never seen Dexter before and I love your Christmas ornaments.

  12. Cathy- It's a strange series. You have to like things like Criminal Minds to enjoy Dexter. And the language is rough. Thank you! I love getting new ones when someone comes back from their travels.

  13. I LOVED reading this post, and especially your #7. :-)

I'm afraid my refrigerator and my purse look a lot alike - except for the food part.

What a nice collection of ornaments! I like to travel, but once when in a packed plane from SF to MSP, I suddenly wanted to open the door and get out. We were not on the ground. I had to get the air focused on my face and bury my brain in a mystery to overcome it.

Did you have to say 'lemon meringue'?? I love that stuff, and MY mom made the best. LOL

  14. Judy-Thank you! I just can't get on an airplane again. Unless I have plenty of Valium and I'm not sure that that will even do it. I'm still craving some lemon meringue---might have to cave. LOL

  15. Mmmm....lemon meringue pie! HOMEMADE lemon meringue pie! That's something I haven't had in years, and although I'm also trying to lose some weight, I'd be mighty tempted by it too.

  16. Kara- If I had one right now, I'd eat the whole darn thing! And it would be worth every single bite!

  17. "What is the most beautiful word you know in any language? Daughter."

That made me smile. Mine can really be frustrating stinkers sometimes but I absolutely agree : )

  18. How in the world can it be Wednesday again. I think I'm still on Monday or Tuesday at the most. I will never remember Wednesdays hops. I love looking at yours though, I love reading everything you write. You are such a great writer. Keep them coming my friend.
Take care and have a blessed afternoon.

  19. Mom- Oh yes, they can certainly do that, can't they? LOL

Julie-Thank you! You can join in any time! I have the opposite problem this week...I keep thinking that tomorrow is Saturday.

  20. I had a friend who used to say he was so poor growing up that he'd eat beans for breakfast, drink water for lunch, and swell up for dinner!

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment! It makes me feel connected to everyone even though we may live far apart! Have a wonderful day!
