The Week in the Proverbial Nutshell and a HOP!

I'm linking up with Cindy at For One Another for my week in a nutshell!  Head on over and join in the fun!  You have until Tuesday- so there's plenty of time!

And now, it's time for my week in a:

I spent the first part of the week waiting for Birdie to get back from her interviews in Texas.  She had a great time and really liked everyone she met.  She did make the comment that, "People in Texas sure do like to talk all the time."  Birdie is our quiet, calm, gowiththeflow child.  She arrived in Texas safely and came back home safe and sound.  She had to fly in, what my dad calls, a puddle jumper from Dallas to Tyler though (probably something like the picture to the left).  "Mom, there was so much turbulence!  And then, we landed sideways and skidded and I thought we were going to spin around but he got it together."  She really could have waited until she got back to share THAT particular information with me.  All in all, she felt that things went well.

I spent the rest of the week waiting to hear the results of the interviews.  And y'all will have to wait until tomorrow's post to hear all about it.

DoodleBug got me hooked on DEXTER and I watched the first two seasons this week.  It's a pretty intense series (definitely worthy of it's R rating though).  She thought I'd like it since I enjoy psychological/serial killer type movies.  Man, that sentence just made me seem very strange, didn't it?  On Thursday, Birdie came over and said, "Let's see if instant queue has The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo."  It did.  And it had subtitles, which I sometimes love but have to be in the mood.  Once we got started though, it became quite easy to get into it and the subtitles were not a problem.  VERY STRANGE movie but worth the watch (careful though, it's a VERY R rated movie).  Now she's got me reading Stieg Larsson's series.  I normally like to read the book before watching the movie, but I'm still starting with book number one which is the same title as the movie.

You may be wondering if all these type movies/television programs/books have any affect on me.  Not really.  Just yesterday Tucker and I encountered a new man walking his dog where we go every day.  He was quite nice and asked about Tucker and petted him.  We chatted and I found out he is married with pre-teen aged children.  A nice encounter and very typical of the encounters out at the ponds.  Tucker and I walk one way, the man and his dog walk in the opposite direction.  And then the thought hit me, "What if he's a very nice serial killer doing his research?"  Followed immediately by this thought, "CRAP!  How much did I tell him?"  AND THEN I noticed that he drove slowly around the outer circle at least twice.  Just looking.  WTH?!

That's about it for my week.  Tune in tomorrow for an update on Birdie's trip to Texas!

Meanwhile, have a wonderful weekend and a marvelous week ahead!

  2. You'll never look at people in the same way now! However Dexter is great.
As always a lovely post. I enjoy hearing about your week. It's certainly more fun than ours has been :)

  3. LOL! You are so much like me. Last month when I was in ASuncion I took a Taxi that was not a "marked" cab. It was yellow, so I thought it was one. But it was two guys just trying to make a buck. They drove me to where I wanted to go, but didn´t have a meter, so while driving there I was kind of scared they would rob me or something. But they were very nice and charged me a normal fare. But afterward, when my daughter heard what I had done she scolded me for being so trusting. Ooops! :)

I read the Steig Larsson series too, they are really very very good! Do you borrow them or buy them? Because I would love to send you mine. Let me know!
I haven´t seen the movie yet.

  4. You crack me up! Did you get the guy's name? Serial killers have three names. Remember the movie Conspiracy Theory???? LOL

  5. My hubby and our kids read the Steig Larsson series. I don't read fiction, so have no idea what all the hype is about ;)

I can however see how super-alert one might become after watching psychological thrillers et al. I don't watch them for that very reason! So, who's better off, then...your being attuned to the possibility that a friendly neighbourhood encounter might disguise a serial killer's intentions or my carefree reaction to something similar :) Darn, you've given me your goosebumps now!!!

I'll be back promptly tomorrow to hear the outcome of Birdie's trip to Texas.

  6. Beverly-Sometimes it drives me mad and, other times, I'm glad I think like this! LOL

Carol- Well, I posted before I got the cleaning bug---and, since I decided to move some furniture, Hubs has decided to replace a piece of paneling he's needed to replace for about 10 years which means everything stays a mess and then it has to be painted. so....I am screaming my head off mentally.

Betty- You're right because that is exactly like something I would have done! Birdie bought them and lent them to me to read. And so begins the first----(cue spooky music)...

Judy-I didn't get his name and now I don't want anyone's name. Thanks a lot. LOL

Desiree- You raise an interesting question. I wonder what the happy medium is between the two? Maybe Birdie has the idea- she reads it and watches it and learns from it but doesn't let her imagination run wild. My imagination, however, has it's own agenda. LOL

  12. Blogger is pants. I just typed out a whole long comment and when I pressed 'publish' it just said '503 Error'. Bastards.

I had mentioned that I was reading 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' too. How coincidental is that?

And good luck with your stalker!

  14. I love DEXTER! I can't wait for the new season to begin. About the guy with the dog..hum, you do know that the real serial killers look just like normal people, don't you? Just in case you want to freak out some more, you should watch Criminal Minds, that is one freaky show. Oh, I almost forgot, I love your blog hops and blog things you link up to, I want to try and do this weekend.

  15. I've read all the Steig Larsson books and they are so addictive. I read them mostly in my bed at night and they were responsible for my lack of sleep!

Like you I like the same kind of thrillers, that keep me on the edge of my seat.

I haven't see the movie yet though. Have a great weekend X

  16. Alessandra-I still have to watch season three and four...and, unfortunately, I do realize that serial killers look like normal people...and this guy was super normal looking. YIKES! LOL I do watch Criminal Minds BUT NEVER when I'm home alone! Hope to see you around the HOPS!

lyndylou-I'm reading them in daylight only. LOL The movie was good but Birdie says I missed out on a lot of details that I will get when I read the books!
