Goodnight Irene!

Thankfully, we only experienced the outer bands of hurricane Irene! After experiencing HUGO in 1989, I do not want to experience another hurricane. EVER. It was awful!

Hubs and I, with Tucky in tow, went out to the beach to do some skywatching last night. We got way more than we bargained for! My camera is fantastic but it didn't do the sunset justice.

Let's face it: Nobody paints like God.

OH- warning- I went overboard with the pictures here. At least I didn't post all 201 shots!

This was taken in the car as we rode over the inter-coastal waterway. That's the Sullivan's Island lighthouse.

This was taken from Breach Inlet- the waterway between Sullivan's Island and the Isle of Palms.

Breach Inlet...

Breach Inlet...again.

We headed down to the end of Sullivan's Island located at the entrance to Charleston Harbor to try and catch the sunset.

That's the Morris Island lighthouse in the distance.

Thank goodness there were little kids running around out there or we might have missed the RAINBOW!

This was a double rainbow but you can't tell in the picture.

Hubs and Tucker enjoying the view. Someone might have made the observation that their hair is the same color.

Gorgeous sky.

That's the bridge connecting Mount Pleasant and Charleston.

Hope y'all have the best weekend EVER! And, if you're in the path of Irene, I hope you are safe and have no damage from it!

We have my family reunion this weekend- look for that update sometime tomorrow!

  1. These photos are amazing. I have a friend leaving for a vacation in Myrtle Beach. She was worried she might not be able to get there and have to pay cancellation fees. Again, amazing photos!

  2. Wow! Absolutely gorgeous photos! But you're so right ... nobody paints like God!!

Since Irene has interfered with our plans to go to the Outer Banks next month, we're going to come to the Low Country instead!!

Unfortunately, the Shem Creek Inn wants too much for their rooms this year, so we're going to stay in Hilton Head (on the beach of course!) the entire time and make a couple of day trips up to Charleston/Mt. Pleasant/Isle of Palms (if for no other reason than having dinner at Boathouse at Breech Inlet! Yummy!)

Your photos have certainly reminded me how much I love the Low Country!

  4. All the luck to the families who will, unfortunately, have to face Hurricane Irene.

    Truly marvellous imagery there...

  6. Oh such pretty pictures and what a sunset. So glad you took them. I was reading those books about the lady who owns the tea shop in Charleston and you took pictures of some of the things and places that the book talks about in some of them so it was like seeing those books in my head. So cool.
I am glad that you didn't get Irene either. Have a wonderful Saturday.

  8. What a glorious treat this has been! I am so pleased you didn't stint on sharing all these images with us, as each one is beautiful! I also have a better idea of the lie of the land in your neck of the woods and it has been lovely to see some of those sights. The huge bridge, the imposing houses, the lighthouse etc. I did spot the double rainbow BTW although just faintly. The picture of Tucker with his Dad is adorable and you know what they say...we grow to look like our dogs...it's clear who Tucker's Dad is :)

I'm so happy to know you're safe and have your family reunion to enjoy this weekend! Looking forward to hearing all about it!

  14. Wow. Thanks for sharing these breath-taking photos. I can't imagine how amazing it all must've looked in person. My favorites are the lighthouse, the rainbow, the bridge, and the one where the wave hits the rocks. And, I just love it when you said, "Nobody paints like God." I agree 100%. Have a nice rest-of-the-weekend, and enjoy your reunion. :-)

  18. Oh my gawd...these are incredible!!! Truly...incredible. Irene...yep, I told Bud that I just KNEW if Irene was a named storm she'd play havoc!! [Irene always gave us a rough time when she was a teen...so the storm named Irene was gonna be a whopper of a tale] But......my goodness, look at the beauty of nature. All I can say is INCREDIBLE.

And the one of hubs and Tucker...of course, that one would be MY favorite!!!

  20. I'm so glad you guys didn't take a big hit. I was at ground zero for Carla, a cat 4. Although it was forever ago, I still remember it very well.

Guess what? Big rain is predicted for later next week. Keep your fingers crossed.

  21. Roan- Thank you! Myrtle didn’t get too much I don’t think. AND I would think that people wouldn’t charge cancellation fees when it’s Mother Nature’s fault- but most businesses only care about their bottom line. Unfortunately. Hope they made it and had fun!

Kathy-Everything on Shem Creek wants too much money! Hilton Head is gorgeous! Hope you enjoy your trip- email me if you can when you come to Mt P or the island- maybe we can meet for a few! I will be in Santee for some of the week though-but email me anyway! Thanks@

Jolyn-Thank you! Oh yes! In person they were breathtaking!

    Shirley-Thank you!

Arnab-Thank you! We were all hoping the storm would just go out to sea and leave everyone alone!

Stephanie- Thank you so much! It was great to be able to see the beauty instead of evacuating.

FG-Thank you so much! Oh wow, that is cool!

Frugal-Thank you! I’ll head over to your blog today!

Desiree-Thank you lady who lives in the Garden of Eden!  Tucker had a great time too- lots of other doggies to play with---and sniff! LOL

Debby-You are too kind! Thank you!

Susan- Thank you! All is well here. Wish the storm had gone on out to sea though.

Laura-Thank you! They were truly stunning in person!

Vicky-Thank you! I’m glad too but I wish she had just gone out to sea and spared everyone! I’ll head over to your blog in just a few!

Julie- Thank you so much! So glad you stopped by!

Cindy-Thank you! It was breathtaking out there! And so nice to be able to enjoy the beauty instead of running for our lives this time.

Thrice- Thanks! Can’t wait for the new challenge!

Brenda Susan-Thank you! Hope Rocker Son is still healing well!

Alessandra-Thank you! Some of the sunset ones reminded me of the burning of Atlanta scenes in Gone with the Wind! LOL

Anni- Thank you! Our Irene was the sweetest, calmest, go with the flow little thing. And she still is! She’s the one who is in Texas for two years. I like the one of Hubs and Tuck too!

    lyndylou-Thank you! Me too girl!

Michele-We got hit by Hugo in ’89 and our memories are still vivid! I never want to experience another storm like that! Fingers crossed for rain for y’all!
