HUMP DAY HOPS!

Well, that's it. I give up on winter. It's just not coming here. And I'm very, very sad to know this.

If you're here for Chats on the Farmhouse Porch or Get Wired Wednesday only, then scroll down.

First up is WEDNESDAY HODGE PODGE from Joyce at From This Side of the Pond.  This meme is fun and sometimes even poses a challenge (read: she makes us use our noggins!).

1. A new Miss America was crowned on Saturday night-did you watch? If you were a contestant what would your talent be?
I NEVER watch that stuff. I couldn't care less about beauty pageants if I tried. I would NEVER be a contestant. NEVER. N.E.V.E.R.

2. Do you have houseplants? Real or fake?

I have real plants in my kitchen window. Hubs knows that I hate cut flowers (I really do not like the idea of killing something just so it can look pretty inside for a few days and it makes no difference to me that they grow them for this very reason...I still do not like it.) so he brings me houseplants from time to time.

3. When you were in school did you speak up or were you more of the hide your face, avoid eye contact, and pray the teacher didn't call on you type of student?
That always depended on the teacher, the course, and to what degree I was prepared that day.

4. Next Monday marks the Chinese New Year...what do you order when someone suggests Chinese food?

We don't eat Chinese food anymore since we've gone gluten free. However, when we did order, I always, without fail, ordered sweet and sour chicken with the sauce on the side. Not very original, eh?

5. How would you define a miracle? What would it take for you to consider something a miracle?

I believe that miracles happen every day. To ordinary people. I do not think that a miracle has to be of such 'importance' or magnitude that it receives worldwide attention. A miracle is an event or occurrence that happens against all odds or when we least expect it. A miracle is the sun rising every day. A miracle is every single baby that is born. A miracle are goals that are achieved and dreams that become reality.

6. What's your favorite Disney song? If you're stuck you'll find a list here.
I am NOT a fan of all things Disney. Although I did love me some Kurt Russell back in the day. Anyway, I do love the Spectrum Song. Especially when the lovelies sing it---I'll see if I can get them to do it on video for the blog some day. Here it is:

7. I should have _____________ yesterday.

I don't know. I had a rather full day. Maybe I should have CLEANED UP yesterday and then it wouldn't be staring me in the face today.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I'm back to running a little bit this week. I'm only doing a quarter of a mile and fast walking the rest but at least I can breathe now AND my knee is good to go! WooHoo! Oh, and if I hear/see one more political ad I might shoot myself. Like I would even, for one brief moment, consider voting for any of those knuckleheads. Sheesh.

Next up is a HUMP DAY HOP from Patrice at Everyday Ruralty called Chats on the farmhouse porch! Patrice made a very nice video for us this week! So hop on over there and check it out! And she's maybe making us another one soon featuring Wendell who is only the bestest horse in the whole wide world!

Questions:

1. What's your favorite kind of chili? Red. With grass fed beef and assorted beans!
2. What do you usually do when you feel a cold coming on? After I think, 'Oh Crap', I make a huge pot of chicken noodle soup (homemade NOT in a can) and start the hot tea with honey, lemon and  a shot of brandy. The brandy works as back-up...if the soup and tea don't help, I won't really care.
3. Rice, potatoes, or pasta? I am a southern gal so- YES PLEASE! Gluten free, of course.
4. What kind of camera do you use? A Canon EOS Rebel XT. And I LOVE it!
5. Are you a night owl or an early bird? More of an early bird...but NO TALKING.

Oh and, Wendell dahling, I will bring tons of carrots when I finally make it up your way!
And NOW:
I'm wired are you?

  1. Whoo-hoo, congrats on getting back in the groove of running/fast walking, whatever! One life, one body - it's up to us to take care of what the good Lord has given us.

It's so chilly here today. I'm ready for a cup of hot soup!

Can I talk after you have your morning coffee? That made me laugh.

  2. Just making a grocery list and chili ingredients are on it for the weekend. I love all kinds and hubs doesn't care as long as he can pour on the hot sauce.

Never say never...we might end up in DC at the same time one of these days!

  3. When I was (much) younger I swore I would never have houseplants - I hated my mother's jungle. I think it took about two years of living away from home to acquire them and I still have a few.

I'm with you on the cut flowers and the beauty pageants - yuck!

  4. So glad you are starting to run again, I know you have been wanting to do this!

I hid in the classroom, just so shy!

I am an early bird too and like you I am not a big talker, I need one cup of coffee and my shower then I am good to go!

  5. I really enjoyed what you said about miracles. That is really good. So you don't think you will get winter?
We are supposed to get winter this weekend. I had given up too.
It is always nice to get caught up with you on Wednesdays. Good job on running again.

  7. Cathy-No talking after the morning coffee because, well, I don't drink coffee. After the morning run is usually ok though. Unless you're a cute puppy named Tucker. Then you can talk any time. LOL

Joyce- Not surprisingly, my hubby is the same way! LOL Chili is not on my list until Super Bowl Sunday! Hope we can meet in DC one day!

Stephanie- I don't mind them inside as long as they're potted...but I only have 5. Well, 6 but it will be transplanted into the garden in the spring.

Lucy- Thanks! It really does feel great! I don't drink coffee so it's best to leave me alone until after the run. LOL

FG-We don't seem to be getting much winter at all. And that sucks because there's nothing to kill the bugs so they will be out in abundance. Thanks!

Maren-It sure is! I'm loving it!

  8. Great chat here.
Delgihted you've been able to get back running!
I definitely agree with you re beauty pageants. Cannot understand how anyone would enter their child in one. But...we're all different. I wouldn't watch one on tv though.

Lol re your solution to a cold! I might try that, though (touching wood) I haven't had one for a long time.
Your lovelies sing also? They're multitalented!

  9. Hey, friend! Thanks for humoring Wendell as he led the chat. I told that silly guy where I was, but he just didn't get it. I have many pix to post. I think my oldest has lots on her blog already. Have a great week!

  10. Kurt Russell! LOL I'm glad to learn I'm not the only one who remembers that cute boy in those old Disney shows! I think he was my very first crush. :)

  11. From you answer I detect that you don't care for beauty pagents. I watched when I was younger but I don't see the point anymore. I like the sweet & sour chicken too.
Way to go with the exercise! Have a nice weekend.

  12. I just love reading your posts! So fun to read your answers to the questions. But it's too bad you don't have any opinions. lol (just kidding you cuz I have opinions TOO!! and it sometimes drives me crazy when others don't.) Wish I could send some of this below-zero weather down there for you. Oh. And as far as the Chinese food? I used to eat it too, and EVERY time came away with a two-day pounding headache. My favorite thing was the cream cheese puffs - which probably weren't that bad, but when you're faced with a LeeAnn Chin's Chinese Buffet, there's SO much other tasty stuff. Now I never ever eat it. Have a great weekend!
