Recipes
The first months of being gluten and sugar free required some research for some new recipes. And now that we are considering trying the RAW route for the summer months, I'm on a recipe hunt again.
After a time, it became much easier and, as I got the hang of things, I was able to take my old standby recipes and convert them to suit our new lifestyle eating habits.
The RAW foods are brand new to me but the recipes out there are in abundance! And easy! AND, I won't have to turn on the oven this summer when, instead of temps being hot, they'll be hotter. Which will lead to hotter than hell and then eventually turn into do-not-even-THINK-about-talking-to-me-because-it-is-too-damn-hot-and-you-WILL-draw-back-a-nub.
Wednesday night I tried a few newtome RAW recipes. The college crew LOVED it! (Gotta love having college kids over for new recipes- they'll eat just about anything AND make you feel good about preparing it for them!).
We had veggie roll-ups that looked like Sushi without the fish! Cause I'm NOT eating RAW fish. No. Anyway, they're wrapped in Nori- which is seaweed.
And a spinach and arugula salad with strawberries and walnuts with a homemade dressing.
And, for dessert, mixed fresh, chopped fruit on Romaine lettuce. It was supposed to be rolled but I couldn't manage the rolling of the Romaine leaf. So it wasn't rolled. It was placed.
We also had some brown rice with roasted veggies just in case they needed more. And they did. But I forgot to take pictures of that.
Here are a few of my favorite websites/blogs for recipes. Some feature RAW, some gluten/sugar free, some have the usual things but made healthier and still others have a nice combination of one or more. Hope you find some you like!

oh that salad looks amazing! Might have to get some strawberries today when I head to the grocery store.
ReplyDeleteHi Pam,
ReplyDeleteJust stopping by quickly to wish you a Great weekend! Very nice recipes :)
Hugs
Eva
Will have to tell my daughter to check out some of the links. She just found out she has an allergy to wheat, cow's milk, egg whites, and shrimp. She's learning the fine art of label-reading. Not all gluten-free foods are milk- and egg-free. This will be a learning experience for her. And, since she's living with us right now, for us too.
ReplyDeleteEverything looks delish. Especially that colourful dessert. And I LOVE LOVE LOVE fishless sushi. Yum-oH.
ReplyDeleteThe spinach salad looks yummy! Thanks for the recipe links.
ReplyDeleteI eat raw a lot. I just like the textures better. I'll check out those sites...thanks.
ReplyDeleteKimberly- It was a fabulous salad! Hope you enjoy yours too!
ReplyDeleteEva- So sweet! Thank you!
Laura- The biggest issue I have with the gluten free is that most recipes call for refined sugar. I substitue Turbinado, honey or coconut sugar. Hope it goes well for her. It takes practice but it does become easy!
Cathy- Thanks! They ate it all up quickly!
Joyce- The salad was fabulous! I even liked the homemade dressing!
Stephanie- The textures are good, I agree. And I just feel better when I eat that way too. Enjoy the sites!
That salad looks delicious. I love strawberries - and so do the tortoises! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are inspiring. I really need to make some changes for the better in my diet.
ReplyDeleteNo lemon bars?? Well, the second photo looks amazing and delicious. You can't get me too excited about the first one. I did manage to lose the 5 pounds I'd gained over Easter, by having FF Greek yogurt, nuts, and flaxseed for lunch, then meat or poultry and veggies for dinner. It's good to be back on the wagon. But your wagon is trucking on down the highway while mine is putting slowly down the cow trail. :-)
ReplyDeletethose strawberries and salads looked so refreshing--thanks
ReplyDeleteWe went to a Sushi restaurant. This was the first time for me. I don't do raw fish either! Didn't even try it. I did try a Cali-roll which is cooked crab (I literally accidently put a 'p' instead of a 'b' in crab just now!) I didn't like that either, nor the miso soup. Sad, because I'm not a picky eater at all! I ended up with beef teriyaki which was wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThe raw salads you picture look delicious!
MMS- I love them too! And these were so big and juicy and red! YUMMY!
ReplyDeleteUnknown- Just take it slow...one change at a time! I'm following you back on Pinterest!
Judy- Dang it! I forgot about lemon bars! Congrats on the 5 lbs! WooHoo! It just seems mine is going fast- it's not really! But slow is the right way to go!
LP- They really were! Hope you find some recipes you like!
Brenda- Yeah, I won't try it either. Everyone in my family LOVES it though! That's one thing they got from their dad. LOL
ReplyDeleteThat salad looks AMAZING! So colourful! I bet it tasted great too :D
ReplyDeleteI included one of your posts in my Friday Finds today :)
Everything looks yum! I like raw fish so that would be good too. Thanks for the resources for other recipes and food ideas.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a wonderful meal and definitely very pretty to looks at! YUMMY
ReplyDeleteMaren- It was so yummy!Really?! I'll check it out!
ReplyDeletejen- It was so good! I don't know if I like raw fish or not, I can't find the courage to try it. LOL You're welcome! Hope you find some you enjoy!
Debby- Thanks! Everyone enjoyed it very much!
ReplyDeleteDebby,
ReplyDeleteI was oh so close to being an empty nester. My youngest son was born on the night of his bother's high school senior prom...and now there are two more. I try to get the new babies (now 6,5 and 4) to eat healthy but it's a chore. I think the salad would work. I'm going to try it! Thanks.
