Smoothies and Sabotage

Another thing I've started doing every single day on my quest to health and fitness is drinking green smoothies!

Holy Cow! They are DE-FREAKING-LICIOUS! And I am totally ADDICTED!

I make a blender full each morning and drink it all down by the end of the day. So GOOD!

These delightful smoothies are a close second with the dry skin brushing as being my favorite new healthy practices.

These things are so tasty! It's like drinking thick juice! I like to have mine in, what the lovelies always called, a fancy glass. Did I mention that I am totally and completely 100% addicted to them?

Here are the two blogs/sites that got me started:

Green Smoothies/The Tera Warner Blog
Incredible Smoothies

I also wanted to mention sabotage- particularly as it relates to the weight loss part of my journey. I used to be really, really good at sabotaging myself.

I used to struggle with getting upset over the weight thing. It's SUCH A DARN SLOW PROCESS that I would get frustrated with myself. When I got frustrated, I would eat. And eat. My frustrations actually triggered my desire to eat. It became a battle. And the battles were many.

Oh and goodness me!  Let's NOT forget that annoying as hell little inner voice to whom we give permission to say things to us like: "Are you kidding?  This is too hard. Just stay the way you are. It's so much easier to leave well enough alone. Just one bite won't hurt anything..." It will even remind us from time to time that we don’t have what it takes to lose the weight or it's taking too long that it just isn't going to happen or consider your AGE...anything to make us believe losing weight is nothing less than an insurmountable obstacle.

And that's just what some of us do to ourselves.  It's a fight all the way to the finish whether we battle ourselves or others who are not exactly supportive. This time, I am determined to fight it all the way. I am way more stubborn that that annoying as hell inner voice of mine. I now frustrate my frustrations.

And give in to green smoothies instead.

This is the nineteenth day of the A-Z April Challenge. I thought I might try a theme this year and focus on my personal journey to health and fitness, including weight loss.

Today's letter is S and my words for the day are SMOOTHIES and SABOTAGE.

  6. I've read a lot about green smoothies lately. It's all the rage and I'm sure they are healthy. But I just can NOT imagine drinking them. I don't even really like milk shakes because they are so thick and I don't like juices either. Maybe if I could try one from you first, maybe I'd be convinced. But I love that you love them so much. It is giving me second thoughts...

  7. Betty- Guess what happened to one woman? Her gray hair turned back to it's original color! WHAT?! Yep. How's that for motivation? LOL You're hair doesn't look like it has any gray so maybe that's not motivation for you. But, you come down this way, I'll make you some. We'll find one you like! You can add water to find the consistency that's right for you!

  10. Green smoothie? Sounds good enough to try. As for the inner voice, sometimes I think that it's worse than what other people can say to you. Good job being able to ignore the sabotage attempts!!

jen- They are to die for!

JM- They are delicious! I agree with you on that- I'm always harder on myself than others are. Meaner too. Changing that though! Well, on myself NOT that I'm going to turn it around and be mean to others. LOL

Stephanie- I can't get out of it! LOL

  15. LP- I never have been either but these are really good! The trick for me is to use only one banana and to blend it up with water first then add the other fruit and greens. OR no banana at all.

Debby- It really is! Let me know how you like them!

  16. OK, Pam, I've just purchased a Ninja thingy that is both a blender and a juicer? Two pitchers anyhow. I've been afraid to give it a try, but you've inspired me. What is your very fav smoothie's? I'm afraid that they will pack pounds on not help me lose more. Ideas?
You've been such an inspiration thanks!
    Hugs~

  17. Sush- I haven't pack on the pounds yet. You can substitute a meal or two with the smoothies! That's what I'm doing this week. Or trying to do. I have used some of the recipes from the sites I've listed but mostly I just make it up as I go. If you're using banana(s), blend them with a bit of water first and then add your other fruit and the greens last. I like to use bananas, apples, pineapple and spinach or kale- that's my favorite mixture. Sometimes I buy the green mix from Whole Foods and put that in for the greens. Strawberries are good but then your green smoothie won't be green. LOL Just play with it and find the one you like best!

  18. Isn't it sad how we tend to be so much harder on ourselves than on anybody else? We wouldn't say the things we do to our best friend so why is it okay to say them to ourselves?

Thanks for the reminder to be strong and stubborn for our own well being. And for the smoothie ideas. :)

  23. I had my first green smoothie today. The banana/spinach one recommended as a first try. Gotta admit, it will take a bit of getting used to.
Thanks for introducing me to it.
I think you should publish an e-book using your posts from A-Z blogging challenge. There's a ton of great info you are sharing!
