Summer Breeze and the Hodgepodge

It's one week and three days into summer break and I haven't done one single thing. I am a lazy bum for sure! A couple of teacher friends and I are going to start walking the beach on Thursday morning though. I've got to get motivated here people!

1. Since you weren't Hodgepodging last Wednesday, how did you pass the time? I sat on my rear and watched HGTV. Property Brothers to be exact. And Love It Or List It Too. It's an addiction from which I must be cured. SOON!

2. What's the first word that comes to mind when I say marriage? Yes, one word. UGH. Is that a word? Maybe I'll just stop there. :)

3. Summer officially arrives in the Northern hemishpere later this week. Does it feel like summer where you live? Describe your idea of the perfect summer day. It's felt like summer here since last month. My perfect summer days now involve sitting in front of HGTV in the air conditioning. Widely different from the perfect summer day of my childhood. I don't think I ever watched television in the summers of my youth. We didn't waste one single minute of our summer days. They were filled with fun and laughter and playing outside and going to the pool and chasing fireflies...just good fun spent outside from sun up to sun down.

4. "Deep summer is when laziness finds respectability."(Sam Keen) Is laziness ever respectable? Do you have a lazy summer planned, or something semi-ambitious? I'm livin' it people. And it is NOT respectable at all. It's frustrating and confusing and a hard habit to break. Then again, when it is deep summer and the heat and humidity get the best of us, then yes, laziness does find respectability.

5. Past or present, who's your favorite television dad? Why is he a favorite? Is he anything like your own dad? Bill Cosby and he is just like my dad! They even have similar mannerisms! LOVE me some Cos!

6. June 18th is International Picnic Day...share a favorite picnic memory. All of the ones shared with the lovelies on the beach in the summers while they were growing up. Many, many picnics did we enjoy in those days!

7. The travel site Trip Advisor lists the top five islands in the world for 2014 as-Ambergris Caye in Belize CayesProvidenciales in Turks and CaicosBora Bora in French PolynesiaMarco Island Florida, and Lewis and Harris in The Outer Hebrides (Scotland). Have you been to any of these? Of those listed (and if price were not a factor) which would you most like to book for a holiday? I have not been to any of those and am not really interested in visiting any of them. Especially none that are hotter than I already am here in Charleston, SC. However, since I hail from Scottish heritage, I shall choose The Outer Hebrides.

8.  Insert your own random thought here. Seriously, y'all, I have GOT to stop being lazy around here. I constantly feel like I am waiting for something. Though I have no idea what it is. There are so many things I hope to accomplish this summer and I've done NONE OF IT. I suppose I could blame it on the heat and humidity but most of the things I need to do are inside. In the AC. Plus, we always get a nice sea breeze since we life so close to the beach. Who am I kidding? I have no excuse. NONE.

I shall spend this next week searching for my motivation. Have y'all seen it, by chance?

Have a good one! And stay cool!

  3. Wait...isn't Property Brothers the show that HGTV got cancelled because of their Christian stance on homosexuality? Did HGTV bring them back? Sure hope so! Oh, I know how hot and humid Charleston can get...HOTlanta is pretty miserable, too!

  4. In summers like yours, I think you shouldn't have expectations for getting anything done. I know I wouldn't be able to handle the heat. Going from AC to AC sounds like the best idea to me, and yet it must look just gorgeous with the heat and humidity making every flower imaginable grow like crazy.

  5. Well in your defense, you did have a busy school year and a wedding, so a little down time might be needed and not considered lazy. When I lack motivation I make a list. Somehow writing it all down motivates me to do something. Often I'll break it up into days or weeks. Pick one or two things each week to tackle.

We may be having a wedding in December-ha! The date is written in pencil until a couple things with his work schedule are officially okayed. I've got a venue and caterer on hold and we've ordered the dress so we're okay. Just ready for it to be official. If it doesn't happen in December it won't happen til next spring and my girl is not a fan of waiting that long with all the miles between them. Plus, now that I've got my head around a Dec wedding I don't want to change course and think spring. Oh well-we're flexible : )

  6. I saw the Property Brothers "live and in person" at the CMA Fest in Nashville just the week before last. My daughter is a huge fan of theirs, like you, so she was quite excited! She sleeps with HGTV on quietly as her "white noise" so I think she dreams about those brothers! ha!!

  9. We never came in the house during the day and my Mom would have had us up by our toes if we even thought about turning on the T.V. in the summer.
I love that your Dad is like Bill Cosby that is so nice.
I don't know you have been pretty busy, I hope you just rest for awhile.
    Email coming shortly. :)

  11. Holli- I agree totally!

April- Oh gosh I HOPE NOT. I sure hope I'm not supporting anyone like that. I searched but found nothing about that so I don't think it's them. At least we have the sea breeze that HOTlanta is lacking. LOL

Judy- I don't know how things look outside. I stay inside all summer long. LOL I have to go out and water my flowers every morning or they will be wilty by afternoon.

Joyce- I like your thinking. LOL A December wedding would be gorgeous! I hope it happens for her!

Marla- Wow! That's awesome! They are so much fun to watch!

Kim- Same as us! I'll read your email soon- I see it's here!

Denise- Mine has left the building. For good. LOL

  12. People are too hard on themselves at times. Laziness should be perfected over the summer. It's one thing to be working on laziness when you are young and need to make progress vs. having achieved many things (job, family, parenting, etc) as a wise adult. Let it go. Laziness doesn't need to become a habit. Blogging can be a habit and can reading and commenting on blogs. Now FB is mostly a waste.

  13. bill- I don't know. I keep thinking that I really should get up do something. Anything. It seems I will be busy for a while though as I promised my recently married daughter I would go through all 1600 photos and select some to go into photo books for the grandparents. Maybe I was just resting up for this chore. LOL
