10 Things to Think About

Do you think---

1. Do you think that people actually read the articles before they post the links on their Facebook pages? I understand that taglines are used to attract people. We are often drawn to an article based on taglines alone. What I do not understand is why some taglines are complete lies. In the following article, the writer got the story wrong. Or chose not to write the 'exact' truth. In the hopes of what? Making everyone who didn't bother to watch the video report sound stupid? Or does the writer lack listening comprehension skills? Not that the video makes me feel any better about the story, but it's still not what the writer relayed as truth. Exactly. Here's the link to the article. And here's the video.

I understand the desire to get information about injustices out there for others to learn about and, hopefully, take action in an effort to make changes. But, no one is going to keep listening if you misrepresent yourself and the situation. Way too often, we get caught up because without hearing the whole story. We hear the beginning and assume the rest.

2. Do you think that every single person carries some sort of secret them every single day? Do you think releasing those secrets can have a positive impact on others? A creative impact?

3. Do you think that people use words correctly all the time? I have discovered words that I have been using wrong for YEARS just by subscribing to  Dicitonary.com's word of the day. A subscription that I am seriously considering dropping. Except that, if I do, how will I know if I am misusing other words? It's a conundrum. No, it's a quandary. Wait...a delimma. A predicament?  A quagmire? Good grief.

4.  Do you think that anyone truly understands poetry, or is it just my head that it flies over in such great heights? Or is that we should just enjoy and appreciate the rhythm and language without trying for meaning because that is, in reality, the poet's game? Hmmm...

5. Do you think that the powers that be will ever stop making decisions regarding education and let the teachers teach? Nope. That would mean applying common sense and that simply will not happen. Ever.

6. Do you think the song, I Think I Love You, is the worst song ever written? Or is it The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow? Pretty sure they're tied for first. WORST SONGS EVER!

7. Do you think people do things to annoy us on purpose? Or are we just too picky? OR are they really that stupid?

8. Do you think some people get drunk or stoned or smoke the crack pipe before going to the barber? (from BuzzFeed)

9.  Do you think about the vastness and wonder of space? And that it's truly amazing that we can photograph some of it? (NASA)

10. Do you think that adult kids who move back into the house ever move back out? Ever? Sigh.

Well, what do y'all think?

  1. As a rule I don't post anything unless I have read the full article. I think my husband does things on purpose to annoy me! The vastness of space amazes me. Good question on #10, I've heard of a few who moved back out but I haven't personally experience it yet......

    1. I read it too. Or just ignore it. I have to wonder if these girls will ever leave. It's not looking good.

  2. What a great post! I'm smiling. I have felt that most people don't read those stories. It's a lot like the stuff that used to go round and round via email. Most people just hit the forward button without reading. Our son and his wife lived with us for 6 weeks while they were making a transition from one house to another after the premature birth of their daughter and major expenses. We loved their being with us, but knew it wouldn't be permanent. Proud of both our kids and their independence.

    1. Oh, right! The email ones. Those drive me NUTS! One of mine is looking for a job and saving money to move out and the other one just moved back in because she's getting a divorce. Mostly, it's me being selfish and wanting my quiet life back. :)

  3. #8-possibly. I think we're a nation of band-wagoneers. I might have just made that word up. We see a link and read two sentences and click share with the universe. I never share anything without reading the fine print : ) Have a great weekend!

  5. Poetry is NOT my thing for the same reason you stated. And come on...you don't love David Cassidy and I Think I Love You? I mean...omg! haha. Great post. And the answer to #10...it's why I moved south!

    1. I feel like it goes so far over my head that I don't even know it's there. Ha! No, I don't. Drives me nuts. Thanks!

  8. "We hear the beginning and assume the rest." I agree but would a step further. Many don't even hear any part of it. They just see the picture and react. The re-sharing on FB is ridiculous.
Poetry - hmm I'm not a big poetry reader but I have enjoyed some that conveyed meaning, wonder, emotions very well. Words are powerful and thank goodness we have real masters out there. BTW I think good prose is even better.
I like the song "The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow". Good positive message - don't give up your hope.
Your #9 question is my favorite of your list. That you included it gives me more hope for the future and the sun coming out tomorrow.

    1. True. Some probably do just see the picture. I try and try to read poetry but it continues to soar over my head. I never give up hope but, if I never hear that song again IN MY LIFE, I won't be sorry. :) Ah, the vastness and beauty of space. I love getting these emails from NASA and staring in wonder... Thanks!
