Think About It

I can't figure out if all this pondering from such news stories are a good thing or a bad thing. Something that speaks volumes about society these days or something that tells us only things about those who get into the spotlight.

Anyway---

1. So, THIS is plus size? If so, WTH does that make ME? An elephant?

2. Lying in the media. THIS is a new thing? I do not believe that it is. However, I find Alva Noe's take on the situation interesting. Noe believes that the reason behind the lie could be related to the fact that Williams is a storyteller and storytellers tend to make their stories more interesting.  Noe is more concerned with the fact that the line between entertainer and reporter has become difficult to see. I admit that I am one of those consumers who believes that entertainment and the news are two different things. If I want entertainment, I'll watch a sitcom. If I want to know what is going on in the world, I just want the facts. I don't need it sugar coated. Read the article over at NPR.

3. Did you know that the Ebola virus is viable in a dead primate for up to one week? Apparently, just because someone dies, it doesn't mean that all the cells die simultaneously. Who knew? Or am I in this boat alone? I would have thought that more of a Hollywood thing. Ha!

4. I read that Gary Owens, the announcer on Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In died this week. I remember Laugh-In. I also remember watching it on the sly because my parents did not find it appropriate. But I thought it was funny. Even if I was in elementary school. I'm sure a lot of the verbal humor was lost on my young self, but the slapstick was hilarious.

5. Are you in the Northeast? Are you under a ridiculous number of feet of snow? I know I love winter and I am always hoping for snow but never THAT kind of stuff. I feel the same way about that kind of winter as I do about the heat in Arizona. I don't like it. And it's scary. I believe there is such a thing as too hot AND too cold. I'll take a happy medium, please. Check out the time lapse video from January 28.

There's always something that doesn't puzzle us or anger us. Something that leaves our hearts warm. Here it is:

Dogs are just the best.

What do y'all think?

  2. I'm with you and Sgt. Friday. Just the facts, ma'am. Just the facts. I saw that about Gary Owens, too. That was some good slapstick, but pretty shocking stuff back then.

That much snow is scary snow. I feel for the people there. Stories like this dog always bring a tear to my eye.

    1. Ha! Yep, the facts are all I need/want. I suppose it was shocking. At least to my parents. Most of it went right over my head since I was so young. But I did so laugh at the slapstick. I worry about people's roofs caving in. That is NOT cool. Thanks!

  3. I love the story about the dog and the hospital. Saw it on FB over the weekend. So sweet. I agree with you about the difference between entertainment and the news. What has happened?? (We know what has happened.) I LOVED Laugh-In. I was a teen when it was on, and just loved that show. So did my folks, so we enjoyed it together! As to what constitutes a plus size, I think the "designers" refer to size 12 as "plus", when you and I know plus sizes sections, in the stores, have sizes 16-26 on the racks. Actually, if I could get into a size 16 again, it would be because I was skinny again. I wore a 16 in high school, and I was thin then. I'm big boned (for real) and just a pinch under 6 feet tall. Give me a break....I know what a plus size is!!

    1. Size 12. Pfft. I don't think so. I'm with you on that- IF I could get into a 16 I would feel so thin! I am 5'10" and the smallest I've ever worn is a size 8. I was a string bean for that minute. Ha! Mostly, I was in a size 12. I know what plus size is too. And it is NOT that girl. LOL Thanks!

  4. Snowing here again this morning. Even though the forecast was for maybe an inch overnite we've already added more than that. We're a little snow weary at this point : ) I think re: Brian Williams. The problem is our 'news people' have made themselves celebrities. They've embraced that rather than shying away from it. So much of the news programming in all its many forms is about the actual 'reporter' or anchor. I wish they'd remove themselves from the spotlight, but don't think that's going to happen.

  5. When I was as "big" as that plus sized model, I was skinny! Holy crap.

I loved Laugh In too, Gary Owens was too funny and I loved the knock knock jokes. Sad he's gone now.
