No Bread Hodgepodge

November. How in the world did October go by in such a flash? This is my favorite time of year and I haven't been able to relax and enjoy it at all. The weather isn't cooperating and there's that job that gets in the way of free time. Sheesh. At least I can enjoy the Hodgepodge!

1. Besides Thanksgiving, something you're looking forward to on your November calendar? Who says I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving? Ha! I'm looking forward to the week off, but I'm not that thrilled about preparing a huge meal to be eaten by people who will do no more than gooble it down and offer ZERO help in the prep or clean up.

2.  If I gave you a thank you card right now who would you send it to and why? To some of my coworkers. I'm not exaggerating when I say that I work with some of the best people on the face of the earth. They are kind, helpful, encouraging, supportive, funny as hell and make my life better just by knowing them.

3. Of the breads listed, which one's your favorite...bagel, cinnamon, sourdough, garlic, banana, biscuit, pita, Naan, or plain old fashioned white bread? Bread? Oh, how I miss bread! I haven't had bread since the third week in May. I do miss it so. I love bagels but, if my grandmother was still here and making her biscuits, there would be zero competition!

4. What's something you have in abundance? A mess. Is that a good thing? No, it is not. It's horrible and I hate it. AND, it's not mine. It's just in my house. So, I guess it's mine by default. UGH.

5. November 5th is National Love Your Red Hair Day. Are there any redheads in your family? Who's your favorite redhead? I love red hair! I have a touch of auburn in mine but I love a true red head! The kids at school all know that my favorite color hair is red. It's just so dang pretty! My favorite redhead is Maureen O'Hara. I've always loved her and have always thought that she is a sweetheart. I was sad to hear of her passing. I don't really know any redheads in 'real life' so I went with a famous one.

6.  The travel website Busbud recently calculated the most Instagrammed spot in every state. Go here to see what made the list where you live. Are you happy with your state's #1? No. Myrtle Beach? Are they freaking kidding me? That's nothing but a tourist trap anymore. If not what do you think should be the most photographed spot in your state? Well, duh, Charleston. Or St. Helena Island. Or Beaufort. The quaint town of Rockville on Wadmalaw Island. There are plenty of places that are beautiful with history and nature. But, Myrtle Beach? UGH. Have you snapped a photo there? Yes, I've snapped photos in all those places. Even the God forsaken Myrtle Beach.  If you live outside the USA answer as it relates to your state, city or province.

7. I'm going to try to have something related to gratitude in this spot each week during the month of November. Here's this week's question-

What's something you've learned about yourself this year that you're grateful for? I am not too old or too afraid to make a change.

8. Insert your own random thought here. The mother of our sweet friend and teacher at  school lost her battle with cancer yesterday morning. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers. Our sweet friend was quite close to her lovely mother.

Have a wonderful rest of the week, y'all.

  1. Can you assign everyone a dish for the meal, including the prep and cleanup? It might be worth a try. I'm so sorry for your friend's loss and will add her to my prayers today.

    1. Haha! That would be nice but it won't work. Two of them live here with me and still think they're little or something. The one who helps all the time lives in Nashville now so that won't work. It'll be fine. Thank you for adding Michelle to your prayers. The funeral is tomorrow afternoon.

  2. I'm sorry to hear of the passing of your friend's mother, Pam. I am glad to hear that you have such wonderful co-workers. Guess I can scratch Myrtle Beach of my bucket list! I'd love to visit your state again. It is beautiful. My Thanksgiving suggestion would be pizza ordered in.

    1. There are plenty of places to visit in SC without having to suffer through the crowds and traffic of Myrtle. It was fun WAY back in the day. Pizza? What a great idea! That way, they would never think of not helping ever again! LOL

    1. Cancer truly is horrible. It has touched nearly every single person I know.

  4. Prayers for your friend and the family. Perhaps it would be worth making reservations for Thanksgiving dinner? We have done that twice, though I still made a small turkey so we could have 'leftovers'. No mess before or after. Just a thought. I agree that Charleston is beautiful. I didn't like the Florida choice either, but I guess it's the tourist traps that get photographed the most, not necessarily the most beautiful places. Another fun Hodgepodge!!

    1. Thank you. Maybe eating out would be nice. I hadn't thought of that. Yeah, why is it that they picked tourist traps?

  5. I'm in Myrtle Beach right now and I get what you're saying about the tourist stuff. But the crowds are way down because it's November and the beach is gorgeous and so relaxing from our balcony. I love taking pictures here.

    1. I'm down the road in Pawleys Island. Sorry about all the rain. But, I'm glad you are enjoying your ocean view. Have a great visit in SC!

    2. Drive on down to Charleston! You can stop off in Pawley's to visit Marla and then on down here and we'll have coffee or lunch or something. Seriously, any excuse to get a sub and have a day off. LOL Have a great time!

  6. Ha! We agree about Myrtle Beach!! South Carolina has so many OTHER lovely spots! I'm sorry about your friend's mother's passing. Damn cancer. Oh -and I kinda agree about Thanksgiving. I don't really enjoy it either. We are flying to Ohio this year to see family. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and flights will go okay. But, ugh.

    1. I know, right? So many historic and downright gorgeous areas. My poor friend. This is so tough on her. I'm truly worried about her. Did I ever tell you that I'm a Buckeye fan? Have been since I was a wee little girl. I hope y'all have a wonderful and safe trip!

  7. My Mema made some excellent food but the one thing she didn't do so well were biscuits. They were like hockey pucks! Luckily, I do alright on my own biscuits. :)

    1. My grandmother learned to make her biscuits from my great-grandmother. Those were the best dang biscuits I ever ate. I miss them. Mine don't turn out as good but, no matter since I can't eat carbs right now. Sigh.

  8. I'm with Joyce, assign those lovelies of yours a dish to prepare for Thanksgiving. It's certainly worth a try :) I'm delegating more this year, due to all of the sickness Ed and I have been experiencing.
No carbs and sugar tends to make me cranky. How about you?
I hope the weather gets adjusted for both of us, SOON. 80's in November just isn't a good thing... Neither is the 4 and 1/2 inches of rain we got in one night!

    1. Well, if two of them cooked, you wouldn't want to eat it. LOL I don't know. I guess I spoiled them and they're lazy. The most helpful one lives in Nashville and won't be here. The married one will be here and she's probably doing dessert. No one can make a pie crust like that girl. :) Then again, eating out isn't the worst idea I've ever heard. No carbs and sugar makes me more...homicidal. LOL I hope so too. It's too hot for November.

  9. I would definitely agree to Charleston! I went there a few years ago and fell in love with it! So many things to take photos! Totally understand about the Thanksgiving meal with no help after. I made it my mission to help my sister clean up (I do most of it) because her inlaws never help! I actually get joy out of helping out.

    1. It really is nice here but it's too hot right now. And we really don't get seasonal changes. I really miss those. I always helped out when my grandmother had Thanksgiving and when it was passed on to my mother. Now, I'm on my own, I guess. You can come help me! :)

  10. You can't go wrong with Charleston or Beaufort! Love them both! Going to Charleston this weekend, in fact! Yippee! So sorry about your friend's loss. Will definitely say a prayer for her as I understand all too well.

  11. Sorry to hear about your friend and that your empty nest has been disturbed. I read back on your stress busting post. Might need to bookmark that one - our empty nest is due to be invaded next April! But when your kids ask for help what can you do? The London Instagram choices were a bit random too.

    1. That's what I thought too- I mean, how do you turn them away? We just can't. Maybe it'll be a better situation for you. My two who moved back in seem to think that I am still chief bottle washer, cook and maid. And then I feel like I'm being taken advantage of and that they are disrespectful. Its just crazy. Hopefully it won't last too much longer.

  13. I don't care much for Thanksgiving either. Too much work. I will admit I don't even do most of the work either since I don't cook. I don't understand why but the Thanksgivings many many years ago seem to be better at least in my memories.

  14. Your hodge podge makes my week. I was thinking of all the things I've never done and you brought me out of that dark hole.

The rain I hoped for is pouring down at a delicious rate. It may be a rubber booting day tomorrow as I try not to fall into hopefully rushing water.

I think I may be on the tail end of my malady but two days ago I would have swore I was dying. I don't do sick well. I don't know how to be still and heal. I have painted yogurt cups on my coffee table drying to be possible eyes to my gate guardian. The house work suffers but creativity bubbles up like the illness itself.

    Have a very blessed week.

    1. I don't do sick well either. And, to top it off, when I do get sick, it makes me mad. Which helps NOT AT ALL. We've had so much rain that we don't need anymore for a couple of months. But I think I'd rather have rain than a drought. Glad the hodgepodge helped out! Hope you feel better. And, I bet your house looks better than mine. At least you don't have two messy daughters and a stupid man living with you. LOL

    2. I've tried that. Still stuck with the man! Uh, two men. I keep forgetting to count my grandson as a man!

  15. I hear you on the Thanksgiving dinner. We could go to Chicago this year but my husband wants those days to relax. Traveling is a lot of trouble, especially when he does it all the time. Every once in awhile I have a sandwich with a tasty whole grain organic bread that we love. Otherwise it is no bread for me either. So sorry about your friend. I will keep her family in my prayers.

    1. I wouldn't mind going out of town for the holiday but, on the other hand, I might just need to sit down for seven days. LOL Thank you for keeping Michelle in your prayers. I'm not sure when she'll be back at school and I'm sure the holidays are going to be tough for her.

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment! It makes me feel connected to everyone even though we may live far apart! Have a wonderful day!
